Bill Simmons is the worst. I just recently read his book about basketball. It was a humongous pile of dogshit. 800 rambling pages of Celtics bias, willfully obtuse arguments, straw men, bad jokes, and anecdotes about strippers. I remember people loving it when it came out. Why?

Andreoli will probably never see the 25-man, but inability to play CF doesn't strike me as a huge disadvantage for anyone looking for a role as the Cubs 5th outfielder. Almora, Jay, Heyward, and even KB can play there if needed. The 5th outfielder can just be a corner OF capable of putting together quality PAs.

I thought I saw some tweets from Tupper or Sturdy indicating that Walker is sticking around. That's not official yet?

pretty excited about underwood. didn't know much about him when I saw the news, but love everything I've read about him. I'm glad that ok st - michigan game happened on my lunch break yesterday so I got a chance to see his offense in action.

javy is as hated by fans of other teams as i always dreamed he would be. ok not quite. he does get a lot of love for how exciting he is, but it's so fun to watch the "play the game the right way" crowd (read: cardinals fans) bitch about him.

The first game I went to Dawson homered. That's all I remember. I think it was 1992. I went to a game in I think 1994 and sat next to Dave Wannstedt. I was 7 and didn't give a horsefeathers about the Bears at that point. I was more excited about Tuffy Rhodes poster day. I was at a game in '98 where Sosa and Rodriguez went back to back, or maybe just went yard in the same inning. I was very entertained by the O'Henry bars raining down onto the field. I was at the Mongo game. That was easily the most memorable. It was hot as horsefeathers and also it was 70s night. I think I watched SportsCenter for like 3 hours when I got home, just to watch highlights over and over. In '02 I saw Alex Gonzalez walk off the Rangers. I feel like I witnessed another of his walkoffs too, but that might be a false memory. I was in the bleachers for my 21st birthday in '08 and Jim Edmonds homered. That completed my transition from hating the Edmonds pickup to loving it. The Cubs beat the Braves on a walkoff HBP in 11. In '09 I was in the bleachers for a game in August where the Cubs beat the piss out of Pittsburgh. I think they scored 18 runs or something. The air and water show was practicing that day. Seemed like at any given moment there was a ball flying into the bleachers or a plane buzzing above and pulling off some crazy stunt. I was at a game in May of '13 that was only memorable because a got horsefeathers on by a bird and was forced to by my first Cubs shersey in 5 years. It was a tough call between Castro and Rizzo. Luckily my buddy convinced me to go Rizzo. I went to 5 or 6 games in 2015 and somehow can't separate them from each other. Probably because Lester pitched every single one of them. I was at the Lester complete game against the Dodgers last year, and the Cubs-Sox game where Russell hit a grand slam and KB and Javy homered. I was sitting by an obnoxious family of Sox fans, and it was wonderful to watch them desperately chanting "2 to nothing" and "Sale tomorrow" as the Cubs kept pouring on. (Spoiler Alert: the Cubs beat Sale.)

This is dumb and wrong. The idea that smart teams don't spend in free agency is dumb and wrong. You have to spend in free agency to compete. There is no such thing as a purely draft driven team. Cap space can and should be used to acquire the best players possible. yeah, the smartest team in football is the one that just gave a $90 million contract to "stephon horsefeathering gilmore." the idea that smart teams don't spend in free agency is silly.

yeah she really doubled down. yadi is so valuable that if He wasn't around last season the cards might've finished an even 20 games behind the Cubs instead of a respectable 17.5.

Thing is, she's not just a person. She writes for BP, and both the local BP Cubs/Sox sites. I wasn't familiar with her until she was a guest on Effectively Wild's White Sox preview episode. She was definitely not the most impressive guest they've had for this series, but I didn't think she was capable of this terrible of an opinion.

My mind is pretty fuzzy in my old age, but weren't there reports that Jim Hendry was "relieved of duty" several months before he was fired, and had nothing to do with the Javy pick? Maybe they asked Theo who he wanted? quite the opposite. hendry oversaw that draft and stayed on board to sign all the picks even though he had already been informed that he'd be let go. as for the theo quip, i'm pretty sure theo would never have picked baez. pretty sure the story out there is that they had no idea what to make of him and were scared off by his volatility. not Theo, but there's this quote from McLeod from when him and Jed were with SD:

I would love that, but is there any chance of anyone hitting that? Don't you have to hit 510+ ft to hit it at the bottom? When the last time someone hit a 500+ ft in a game (HR derby don't count)? i'm pretty sure he was kidding but anyway, i believe the "legend" is that clemente hit it once during BP, but who knows. definitely nobody else has. i feel like the closest i've ever seen in a game was sammy hitting one to the CF camera shed in the nlcs, but i could be forgetting another. I read this as clement at first and was very confused

this is good news. i love Strop. he's so fun to watch pitch when he's on, he's excitable, and that forrest gump run he does is the best. and he pisses off cardinals fans because of the way he likes to wear his hat.
