  1. My mind is pretty fuzzy in my old age, but weren't there reports that Jim Hendry was "relieved of duty" several months before he was fired, and had nothing to do with the Javy pick? Maybe they asked Theo who he wanted? quite the opposite. hendry oversaw that draft and stayed on board to sign all the picks even though he had already been informed that he'd be let go. as for the theo quip, i'm pretty sure theo would never have picked baez. pretty sure the story out there is that they had no idea what to make of him and were scared off by his volatility. not Theo, but there's this quote from McLeod from when him and Jed were with SD:
  2. i laughed so hard when i read this. brisbee is the best.
  3. they should let him hop all the way to the plate imo
  4. yeah, these need to be a regular thing.
  5. I would love that, but is there any chance of anyone hitting that? Don't you have to hit 510+ ft to hit it at the bottom? When the last time someone hit a 500+ ft in a game (HR derby don't count)? i'm pretty sure he was kidding but anyway, i believe the "legend" is that clemente hit it once during BP, but who knows. definitely nobody else has. i feel like the closest i've ever seen in a game was sammy hitting one to the CF camera shed in the nlcs, but i could be forgetting another. I read this as clement at first and was very confused
  6. Lol, riveting stuff that unnamed pep talk must have been. lol yup this was my favorite part
  7. this is good news. i love Strop. he's so fun to watch pitch when he's on, he's excitable, and that forrest gump run he does is the best. and he pisses off cardinals fans because of the way he likes to wear his hat.
  8. self respect
  9. this seems very pointless
  10. i'll never understand how this is allowed.
  11. i'm ok with waiting til next year for him to stink
  12. A better hitting Russell? The power and defense must have really taken off in the Yankees system if that's how he's being looked at now.
  13. If Anderson shows he's healthy in ST I'm fine with him being the 5th starter and Monty starting the year in the pen I'd much rather reverse that so Montgomery can get acclimated to a starter's workload.
  14. This doesn't seem that crazy to me given his age and distance from the majors. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not taking it as any kind of indictment.
  15. I was about to point out that he seems like kind of a [expletive] based on my memory of his Twitter history, but looking at it now, seems like he just went back and forth with a few fans right after the NLCS and called out a group of Cubs fans for being idiots and throwing beer at games. Pretty mild. What kept him out for most of the season last year? Seems like a decent enough depth option if the medicals check out.
  16. Looking at Ryan Thibodaux's HOF tracker, it's starting to feel like only Raines and Bagwell, and maybe Pudge, are going to make the cut this year. I was initially thinking it'd be a big class. Anything less than 4 or 5 inductees a year for the next several years is dumb and wrong.
  17. meh, Lester and Lackey went to the WH after the 2013 World Series. I don't think they were trying to make some kind of statement here.
  18. i was a huge mcrae fan when i was a kid. i had the same thought when i saw the list of attendees. i don't remember him attending in the past.
  19. as boring as this team is, i'm so glad derrick rose is not our problem anymore.
  20. Good point, I'll go sit in a corner for my poor judgement. I'm surprised (even though I shouldn't be) that no one even attempted to ask my why I thought they were both terrible candidates. First reaction was "you're wrong, that's dumb, everyone that supported him was stupid or a racist....," but no one is interested in really trying to understand why people were so turned off by their candidate, they'd rather develop a label to easily explain it away. I'd actually be interested in seeing you lay out a well-reasoned and fact-based thought process that led you to the conclusion that Trump and Clinton are equally or similarly bad.
  21. I'll say Paredes. I'm using the decision to give him a little taste of South Bend at age 17 as evidence that the FO thinks very highly of him (on top of the strong debut in Arizona).
  22. I don't care what the rankings said at the time or positional need. Eloy's been number one in my book since Contreras graduated and I would've been very annoyed if we dealt him instead of Torres.
