  1. Heyward doesn't strike out that much.
  2. They are probably not that good, but both teams they lost two are tourney quality teams and the Providence game was on the road. Yep. They've been dealing with some injuries too. No Nunn yet, Black missed the first game, Tate is out, Abrams is out for the year, so they've been playing a bit short-handed.
  3. What's the outlook on Martinez for next year? Is his shoulder injury expected to carry over into next season at all?
  4. Yeah, it's probably a combination of a lot of top prospects moving up to the majors in 2015, and Law just being particularly high on the Cubs system. I'd be surprised if the Cubs were consistently this high across publications, but given how high Law seems to have been on some of the Cubs prospects recently (Martinez and Contreras come to mind), I'm not too surprised at the score. The Astros, Dodgers, Rangers, Phillies, Braves & Pirates scored just below the Cubs.
  5. I know there's been some discussion around here in the last week or two about where the Cubs farm system would rank this offseason, so I thought it worth mentioning that only the Red Sox received a higher minors grade than the Cubs. Of course, that's just one guy's ranking, but it appears that Law is still very very high on the system even after all the graduations.
  6. This is based on what? Your eye test? Meanwhile, back in the real world, Corey Black has been chosen for the AZL All-Star Game. Keep your day job, ace. He has 6 innings and the scouting reports haven't been favorable. But since you want to live in the real world, the 7.11 ERA he has in the AFL is awfully snazzy. hahahahaha.
  7. LOL Zeke DeVoss.
  8. Where is the celebrity stuff coming from? I remember the possibility being thrown out there a really long time ago, and then it was tabled. (I believe there was a rumor of Bill Murray being approached.) Has there been more on this recently?
  9. Most every name mentioned in this thread(and there's been a number of them mentioned) have public rumors that they might be traded. This isn't a bunch of random 'well what if the Dodgers decided to trade Kershaw?' speculation. I know, that's all I'm asking. Just seems odd that cost-controlled, young pitching (which, not long ago, was a precious commodity) is something that is now being shopped around by multiple teams It happens every offseason, really. Off the top of my head, Heaney, Skaggs, Bauer, Cashner, Latos, Gio Gonzalez, & Shelby Miller were moved in offseason deals at young ages with multiple years of control left on their deals. I'm sure there's other examples I'm forgetting, but it's not really uncommon for a few of these guys to be included in deals every offseason, for various reasons.
  10. Does EJM factor into these lists, or no since he hasn't actually played professional ball in the US yet? The variation on him is huge, so he won't even come close to sniffing some lists, but given Law's comments on him, I'd have to believe he'd be on his list and maybe a couple others.
  11. Man, I really really hope they stay far away from Lackey.
  12. just read this whole thread. i want the feeling of today to last forever! pretty sure this is the best sports night of my life (until later this month). i love this team and i love this site. i don't post much, but i love reading all the posts.
  13. THAT'S the place i was thinking about god now i have to go My buddy that I watched the game with today wound up at Stanley's and ran into McLeod there. Sent me a pic a little bit ago. So I'm guessing there's others there.

  15. I also can't believe there were actually 4 times he didn't get a quality start. Seems impossible.
  16. hahahahahahah. can i change my username to Ding Dong Johnson?
  17. No kidding. Wow. Law said he had the talent to be a potential 1.1 pick in 2016. Yeah, I was pleased with this signing as is, but his piece added a new element of excitement for me. Pretty nice that, in advance of a draft where the Cubs will be picking late in the first or not at all, they've already added a potential impact talent to the system.
  18. Well this is a pleasant surprise. FWIW, I know the opinions on Martinez have varied a bit across publications, but Law is very high on EJM in his writeup of the signing.
  19. Thanks for posting that davell. That's pretty helpful. I've been trying to keep an eye on this stuff, but it gets kind of hard to keep up.
  20. Scored a last minute free ticket to today's game. Sat next to a couple who had this exchange: Woman: Oh, Ramirez has 17 home runs this year. That's pretty good at this point in his career. Man: And yet, he's still hitting .251. Couldn't crack .260 when he was here either. Ugggghhhh.
  21. Related note: Cubs have 3 of the top 11 players in the NL by fWAR. Is that good? Also 4 of the top 20. I'm only seeing 2 of the top 20, with Fowler being #21 and Coghlan #25. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=nl&qual=y&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 Maybe it changed since last night? I'm pretty sure he's including hitters and pitchers.
  22. After reading this, I'm really interested to see where Contreras winds up on postseason prospect lists. Will he get docked some for age and because he just has one year of this level of success, or is that less of a consideration because he is a catcher and they tend to take longer to develop? Would Torres, McKinney, Contreras, and Almora be a decent guess as to who ends up on top 100s? As good as Almora's second half was, I have no idea what the opinion on him will be.
  23. Wish they got more out of that, but 51 pitches through 2 innings is nice.
