  1. They don't have to put him on the 40 man roster or risk losing him, unless he's ready to stick on a 25 man roster. All they have to do is put him on the AAA roster which I believe is something like 38 guys, though I may be wrong. It's unlikely that a team is going to have that many high school draftees lying aroudn in addition to their real prospects to cause any real hits to a team's farm system. That is unless their GM is incompetent (See Pirates in '04.) EDIT: If a guy is signed before the age of 19, he has 4 years before he is eligible. Double EDIT: seeing people make a big deal out of people writing Rule V instead of Rule 5 is far more annoying to me than anyone could possibly be annoyed by peopel writing it as Rule V. Rule V can easily be pronounced as rule 5. In documents when things are outlined, they're often listed in Roman numerals, I see no problem with it being written as Rule V.
  2. Wow, can't believe I forgot about those games. Yeah, ND's performance against Stanford really did hurt their argument.
  3. To reiterate: ND was not an at-large team. They got an AUTOMATIC bid by being ranked in the top 6 of the BCS, the same way that any other non-BCS conference team has to get in (like Utah last year). Yes, ND was not an at-large. Nor was OSU. They were automatic bids, just as FSU, Georgia, USC, Texas, WVU, and PSU were. There were no at large bids this year. Every team that was picked, was picked because they were guarenteed a spot per the BCS. And as you said, Raisin, there is nothing one can do about the automatic bids, so why are people still complaining about Oregon not going? There were no at-larges this year, they were all automatic. How were they all automatic? Georgia & FSU won their championship games, PSU & OSU are in the same conference and WV won thier conference. Ummm because winning your conference or conference title game gives you an automatic berth. As does finishing in the top 4 for BCS conference teams, or top 6 for non-BCS teams. Oregon may have an argument, but I'm getting really annoyed with people stating it as fact that Oregon belongs over ND. In the game against their one common opponent ND lead with 1 second left and OU got rolled. It's not such an absurdity to put some weight in that.
  4. You're acting like possibly becoming a free agent on March 15th would be a good deal for a player. Pretty much every team has their budget and team in place by March 15th and don't have an extra 14M lying around to spend on a newly declared free agent.
  5. Comment: I doubt Mateo will be able to stick on the Cards 40 man the entire season, he'll likely be returned by the end of Spring Training. wouldnt he have to stay on the 25 man roster to remain with the cards? Correct.
  6. Yeah pretty much. And how shocking that somebody achieving great fame, might no longer find the time to sit and chat with kids in a hotel.
  7. The Cubs should have taken Sing. His numbers look better than that Rifkin dude's... Sing is on the AA roster, so he can be drafted now. Rohlicek was on the AAA roster so he's safe now. (According to cubs.com rosters.) On this point, the actual roster the player is on isn't what is important. Just as Pie is protected on the major league roster despite not playing in the majors this coming season, Sing (along with all the best prospects not in AAA were protected on the AAA roster.
  8. Seems like a waste of 25K. There's at least 5 guys that were unprotected that I'd see having a better chance of sticking in the bigs.
  9. Peanut butter and Jelly time!! Peanut butter and Jelly time!! Peanut butter and Jelly time!! Peanut butter and Jelly time!! Peanut butter and Jelly time!! Peanut butter and Jelly time!! Peanut butter and Jelly time!! Peanut butter and Jelly time!!
  10. And high school?
  11. That's really surprising. I seem to remember some real non-factors getting invited in years past.
  12. Just more agreement, $3000 in cash is insane for 3 college students to have. Even the watch could be justified as a family present or something like that, but that much cash lying around?
  13. Kansas losses make me smile.
  14. This is why I hate the media. There are so many legitamate reasons to rip the Cubs, and instead Mariotti goes back to the false Trib is cheap, they don't care about winning argument.
  15. I'm rooting for the exact oppositte. Rooting for FSU??? I understand PSU is a Big 10 rival, but geez, FSU??
  16. Loretta can play a decent 2B, Mueller is an unknown.
  17. Some metrics(not that I necessarily agree) have Dunn rated as the better fielder than Abreu. And despite Dunn being a big guy, he really isn't all that slow.
  18. It would seem what qualifies as doing well for this franchise is simply playing a lot. (see: Perez, Neifi, also: savior)
  19. LINK
  20. So did many other coaches. Why is that important exactly? Cause it seems most coaches place their teams higher than the average?
  21. Anyone else notice Mack Brown had Texas #2?
  22. It didn't dawn on me until late last night how insane the Burnett contract offers are. Can you imagine the outrage next year if the Cubs signed Wood to a 4/40 deal? Wood has the better historical #s and Burnett isn't exactly Cal Ripken when it comes to health.
  23. So you're trying to argue that Angel Guzman has been outrighted and somehow not claimed?
