  1. Countdown to move to Rants begins....NOW
  2. That was a horrible rant by BP showing a lot of ignorance towards Rule 5.
  3. Well that really isn't fair. I'd just be pessimistic to judge what happens in the offseason before the season starts. Maybe at least til the all-star break then I can start complaining. But that's not really fair either, I mean look at the Astros, they got off to a terrible start and made the World Series. Better wait til the end of the '06 season. But come on, the season's over, why dwell on the past, what's done is done, let's look ahead to '07 and make this the best darn Cubs team possible!!! But at least wait and see on those '07 moves, til the season begins...
  4. Yes so that I can pick the Bears over them in my survivor pool without fear.
  5. JOSE REYES?? Are you kidding me? And this definitely means moves are coming. Last year Hendry left 4 or 5 spots open I want to say in order to fit FA signings on. With none open (assuming Macias is dropped) somebody's going to have to clear out to let new players in.....or this is our roster for opening day. Just horrible, horrible management of this. Dope wasn't sticking anywhere, Reyes certainly wasn't sticking anywhere, Fontenot should be a front-runner for a bench position, and Sing and Greenberg should have outside chances. On the plus side, he rostered Ryu, which is a pleasant surprise. I don't mind Moore being rostered, as he's a favorite of mine, but I know deep down inside, he wasn't sticking anywhere, and he certainly won't be of any help to the big league club this year. Not to mention I have a weird Richard Lewis in '05 vibe about him. EDIT: Question, anybody know what Theriot's status was when he was added last year? I'm not very enamored with him and if he could've spent another year non-rostered, then that was an incredible waste adding him for September. I assume he was eligible for rule 5, but just checking. And as a half-apology to Hendry, I think managing a 40 man roster for Rule 5 is the hardest part a GM has to do. You have to look ahead to the next 3-4 months of the offseason and pinpoint exactly what you're going to do in FA and trades, leaving spots open for guys that are going to come in, survey the entire rest of the league and see who's going to have spots open that they can fill with one of your non-rostered guys, and evaluate your own chips to see what kind of demand there is for both your rostered and non-rostered prospects. It's incredibly difficult and is really just a big guessing game trying to figure out how the market and the other 29 GMs are going to act in the following months. That said...JOSE REYES?
  6. Hahaha that was great sulley. And I agree that this seems inappropriate for Rothschild to be saying in public.
  7. Pedro summed it up. With a healthy pitching staff performing to its full potential we coulda taken the wild card last year. It's just ridiculous that we have to get the absolute best case scenario out of our pitching staff because we're failing to get guys who can actually hit.
  8. Don't hold off nd, the Panthers are a far better team. They're my #3 behind the Bears and Seahawks, so I probably think they're better than they actually are, but still, it's fun to see my 3 favorite teams all leading the way.
  9. I have no clue where that 10.5M was coming from. Neifi is making at most 2.5 this year, Rusch is making 2.5, and Eyre you'd guess about 3.5 Still a colossal squandering of money that could be most of Giles's first year. But no, we don't want a bidding war.
  10. You think a Sammy Sosa that was still a hero to many many Cub fans wanted to voluntarily walk away from 19M? Some boo birds started coming out towards the 2nd half of '04, but Sosa was the most hated man in Chicago by the time he was traded. The lemmings bought it hook line and sinker, it was night and day from October 1st to February 1st. I just don't see how Sosa waives the guaranteed money at the end of the season. What do you suggest as the proper way to help Sosa get the hint that life would be hell? How do you suggest convincing Cub fans that Sosa is the devil incarnate?
  11. I've been over this roughly 184 times. Sosa had an option that would vest if he was traded. He had negative value at the end of the year with that vesting option. Only by letting Sosa know how miserable he'd be here was Hendry able to get him to walk away from 19M. Without the smear campaign, Sosa is back here, or the Cubs pick up an even greater amount of salary.
  12. Is this an actual offer or a Millwood '04 offer?
  13. Sandals and being able to breathe when I run. No contest.
  14. Good for NIU. Their new QB is from my high school, and he's looked pretty sick the past 2 games.
  15. Do you not remember your own posts from about 2 hours ago??
  16. Sweet, Vance just called everyone on the Cubs but Lee deadbeats! :D Well....Ramirez was pretty good.
  17. I think I saw that while watching sportscenter half asleep this morning. Miami vs. BGSU.
  18. So basically, Cubs fans are right, and the rest of America is wrong? Welcome to the family Chief Cardinal and Cardsfan in ChiTown, good to see you leave the dark side! Also good to see you abandon you're "Jones beating Lee is ridiculous" argument.
  19. The majority has been wrong many many times in the past. It'd shock me if Lee had any significant vote total in an online poll, cause you barely heard his name mentioned in the past month because as previously stated, those in the media, not so smart. The majority of America in both that online vote and the MVP vote also said Jones was better than Lee, should we accept that as well?
  20. so pujols wins mvp because sometimes lee throws sunflower seeds at the pitcher, causing him to pitch badly? and lee loses mvp because sometimes the pitcher is on the mound and he gets sad or something and pujols comes over and tells him a joke and makes him happy? wait, screw it, neifi should've won mvp, he talks to the pitchers more than anyone I don't know. Why do YOU think that Pujols won? RBIs, a winning team, and losing to a guy the media hates the past couple years. The media hates Bonds??? Since when? I turn on ESPN, and Bonds is all I see. I open the paper, and Bonds is all I see. If it was about winning baseball, and RBI's, then why didn't Andruw Jones win? The third reason. You're going to deny that those play a big part of it when Jones came so close to winning it? Sportswriters hate Bonds. It's just hard to deny coverage to the best player in baseball when healthy.
  21. so pujols wins mvp because sometimes lee throws sunflower seeds at the pitcher, causing him to pitch badly? and lee loses mvp because sometimes the pitcher is on the mound and he gets sad or something and pujols comes over and tells him a joke and makes him happy? wait, screw it, neifi should've won mvp, he talks to the pitchers more than anyone I don't know. Why do YOU think that Pujols won? because they only like to vote for guys who make the playoffs im pretty sure that the bizarre cracker factory scenario makes no sense at all. Well, if that's the standard for the award, then why shouldn't Pujols win? His team DID make the playoffs, and Lee's didn't. Just because you don't agree with the standard for MVP, doesn't mean that Pujols didn't meet the established standard better than Lee did. The MVP is about helping your team win. Pujols had the most Win Shares, and led his team to the playoffs. I'm not sure what's wrong with that argument. The established standard is whatever sportswriters vote for becuase they're the ones who vote....so essentially whoever they vote for is always right. In the past 2 legs of the triple crown was a pretty good sign you were taking the MVP. These guys aren't the pope, they're not infallible. They're morons.
