  1. That's my point. It's stupid. There's good GMs and there's bad GMs, that's it. HOLY STRAWMAN!! So in the past week or so of Byrnes and Daniels' tenures as GMs they've proven to you that they use stats more than the standard GM? I don't hear Shapiro talked about as a stats guy often at all. Amazing what a 90 win season can do for your moneyball status. Labelling Jocketty as stats oriented seems a stretch at best. Stats or not, Ricciardi is not a good GM. I used to be a Towers fan, but he 's disappointed me in the past couple years. DePodesta made some questionable moves. Billy Beane is one of the best in the business, I don't understand this need to claim so many guys as being subscribers to his same theories
  2. Fox's career is probably over. He was only signed for 1 year.
  3. Because Edmonds was an awesome CF in his prime. Giles had never been better than just passable in CF and now he's old. Abreu's never been able to handle CF.
  4. What makes these people moneyball GMs? I hate these random distinctions. EVERY GM, even the LaMars of the world are using stats.
  5. hyperbole. I'm sure Sheffield hasn't been the best teammate tho. And yet the Marlins in '97 managed to overcome. Along with Alou on that team too. And Kevin Brown. I'm sorry, but I haven't seen any compelling evidence that the past few years WS winners got along so well. Even the Red Sox still had some division with Pedro and Manny seemingly off in their own world. The White Sox sure got alogn when celebrating a championship, but was there really anything else that pointed out that they were best of friends? The fact that they bunted?
  6. So I guess the arrival of Mike Mussina has been so destructive to the Yankees clubhouse that they haven't been able to win since. If only he wasn't sitting on the bench maybe Rivera doesn't give up that blooper to Luis Gonzalez.
  7. I don't follow that at all. Can you explain? Unless you think his hole in his swing will open back up that doesn't make sense to me.
  8. NO BUT THE WHITE SOX WON THE WS WITH PITCHING AND DEFENSE SO EVERYONE SHOULD GET THAT PLUS SCOTT PODSEDNIK PLAYS SMALLBALL I HATE HOMERUNS
  9. Yeah, that one really came back to bite them when they made the playoffs and Florida didn't. Lo Duca wasn't that great, and he's been downright bad since he went to Florida. The Dodgers, who were likely to make the playoffs even if they did nothing at the deadline, saw their pitching ERAs go through the roof as they went only 16-15 in September and October of that year. They then sleepwalked and lost to the Cardinals in four games. They certainly could have used their emotional leader. And I don't agree with the downright bad characterization, as Lo Duca a better year this past season than he did in 2002 or 2003. Yeah and LoDuca's emotional leadership did lead the Marlins to get hot down the stretch and win it all....no wait their record was worse than the Dodgers.
  10. I don't think we'll ever see a 6 man pen with Dusty as manager.
  11. Um, I'm pretty sure Neifi is a free agent.
  12. The Wilkerson deal never existed. The rumor was the Nats were willing to take Sosa if the Cubs picked up the full salary and they didn't give up anyone of significance. Wilkerson was a pipe dream. And all the talk about talking down Sosa in the media hurt his value, please re-read my post on page 8 I believe. How in the hell were you gonna get somebody to take Sosa with a 2 YR/40M deal in a trade?
  13. So you're in a fight. And you keep getting punched in the face. Over and over again. You realize their punches don't hurt that much so you continue to ignore them. Well recently this guy's acquired brass knuckles. So now his punches actually have something behind them. Do you continue to take the punches, or knee him in the balls?
  14. Why are the White Sox the clear favorites with Konerko back? The Indians already had a better pythagorean record this year.
  15. You and me both. Nah, nah, root for it to be Podsednik. Dye's actually a decent guy, and Podsednik still had the 2 big HRs in the playoffs that it nullifies their entire playoffs.
  16. If that's why that's ridiculous. Since they made the playoffs last year following that trade. And whatever happened to Laura San Giacomo? Have you ever heard of the David Spade tv show, "Just shoot me" that was on NBC?" Yep....she was on that series. Yeah but that was like 4 years ago.
  17. Sorry I misphrased that. Not based on major league stats, the stats they give are what they project them to do at the major league level. And I'm a huge Brandon Sing fan, but that seems a little optimistic.
  18. If that's why that's ridiculous. Since they made the playoffs last year following that trade. And whatever happened to Laura San Giacomo?
  19. In order to get a decent enough sample, players are projected out to more ABs/Gs than they would get. All #s are based on major league stats.
  20. There's a lot of jokes to go with here. I'll pass.
  21. I don't think other teams view Cedeno as well as we do. The return on him would not be worth it.
  22. Becuase if you don't demonize Sosa and make it impossible for him to want to stay in Chicago then he never waives the guaranteed year for '06 and you're stuck with him. Hendry's hands were tied, but not becuase of the video, they were tied because of the huge option that became guaranteed if Sosa was traded. You think Sosa would voluntarily leave 19M on the table if he was still (somewhat) a fan favorite?
  23. Who said anything about replacing him with Henry Blanco boss? Henry Blanco is a fine back up Catcher and if Barrett was unable to learn a lick from Blanco, he's hopeless. He should DH in the AL or play 3rd or LF (somewhere FAR away from Wrigley...he'd actually be a better DH), cuz he's a liability as a Catcher, period. But since you didn't read my entire post, I said to replace Barrett with RAMON HERNANDEZ, who is a 100% upgrade over Barrett and would be SPECTACULAR on the Cubs in 2006. Because all people are talking about in this thread are how important it is to have a defensive catcher. Who needs offense from catcher, just go out and grab these unnamed stud OFs since they're a traditionally hitting position. Sound like Blanco to me. After all he's an even better defensive catcher than Ausmus OR Molina!! World Series here we come!! For that matter, SS is a defensive position too. Forget pursuing Furcal, let's stick with Neifi, he's got a slick glove over there. CF too, they're defense is too important, let's stick with Corey, no need to upgrade there iether. Now all we need are top 5 players at 1B, 3B, both corner OFs, and a stud starting staff and we'll be set!
