They clearly put way too much emphasis on fan backlash than baseball decisions. The trade could have been made, with or without Soriano, and it could have greatly benefitted the 2001-2005 Cubs. Not if the money was blown on Hampton, as was rumored. And I really doubt the Cubs are better in '01 if Sammy had been traded.
