  1. Becuase if you don't demonize Sosa and make it impossible for him to want to stay in Chicago then he never waives the guaranteed year for '06 and you're stuck with him. Hendry's hands were tied, but not becuase of the video, they were tied because of the huge option that became guaranteed if Sosa was traded. You think Sosa would voluntarily leave 19M on the table if he was still (somewhat) a fan favorite?
  2. Who said anything about replacing him with Henry Blanco boss? Henry Blanco is a fine back up Catcher and if Barrett was unable to learn a lick from Blanco, he's hopeless. He should DH in the AL or play 3rd or LF (somewhere FAR away from Wrigley...he'd actually be a better DH), cuz he's a liability as a Catcher, period. But since you didn't read my entire post, I said to replace Barrett with RAMON HERNANDEZ, who is a 100% upgrade over Barrett and would be SPECTACULAR on the Cubs in 2006. Because all people are talking about in this thread are how important it is to have a defensive catcher. Who needs offense from catcher, just go out and grab these unnamed stud OFs since they're a traditionally hitting position. Sound like Blanco to me. After all he's an even better defensive catcher than Ausmus OR Molina!! World Series here we come!! For that matter, SS is a defensive position too. Forget pursuing Furcal, let's stick with Neifi, he's got a slick glove over there. CF too, they're defense is too important, let's stick with Corey, no need to upgrade there iether. Now all we need are top 5 players at 1B, 3B, both corner OFs, and a stud starting staff and we'll be set!
  3. It's commonly held belief that Matsui is Yankee or Japan and nowhere else.
  4. It just blows my mind that we have a great offensive catcher, and people want to get rid of him for a Henry Blanco. That's gonna help our futile OF situation how?? We aren't picking up 3 900 OPS OFs in the offseason, so why voluntarily downgrade at a position where we actually have good production?
  5. Just so Vance knows, that's not exactly a crazy thing for men to do in some countries :)
  6. I'm gonna have to say if Barret kicked a trainer in the nuts, he'd probably not be regarded as a genius around here. Grinder rule #98: Be a douchebag.
  7. I'm not gonna lie, I really hope it's Podsednik. It'll be great ammo.
  8. So you're saying all we have to do is acquire an entire new OF in a weak market. The Red Sox and Yankees seem to be doing just fine with terrible defense at their catcher position. White Sox survived with an awful defensive catcher who wasn't even that good on offense. You take good players no matter where their position is. It's not like Barrett is a Piazza back behind the plate, he's decent enough considering the great offense for a catcher that he brings. A run scored is worth just as much as a run prevented, and you don't take a huge downgrade on offense for less of an upgrade on defense. Especially considering how cheap Barrett is for his production.
  9. The real problem with Soriano is his 30 SB. I think that would almost automatically put him in the leadoff spot.
  10. I don't think Tree's pun got nearly enough attention. And I completely agree with him.
  11. I think you misinterpret what he was saying. He wasn't calling him less of a fan, just saying it's a lot easier to call for people to not go to games, and not support the team financially when they don't have the direct means to do it in the first place. It's a lot easier to say I'm not going to another Cubs game til they turn things around from NH than it is from Wrigleyville.
  12. Cotts can get better?? As in he could put up better #s the rest of his career?? Jenks also is really really dumb, and doesn't have the minor league #s to back up the #s he put up this year. Also, all that champagne can't be good for his "personal problems"
  13. Playing in the weak AL Central and having their starting pitching, they should have a good shot at 90+ wins. Of course, they did have career years out of 6 or 7 players, but their pitching should decrease the chances of a huge regression. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Indians win the central next year. I'd be very surprised if the Indians don't win the Central. Sox take 3rd in the Central next year with a worse record than the Cubs.
  14. They'd still have an obnoxious manager, owner, catcher, shortstop, and starting pitcher though.
  15. Me and Tree totally got screwed out of that agreement chain.
  16. And that too is a poor analogy. Establishing a track record as a hitter in 3 years is a lot more firm than establishing a track record as a GM (on an uneven playing field relative to other GMs) in 3 years.
  17. Not shocking at all. I predicted this last night after the game was over that there'd be those braindead morons outside of Wrigley.
  18. I'm wearing a Cubs jersey and hat to class tomorrow.
  19. Yeah people on this site never get down on Cubs management. It's all excuse making and White Sox hating.
  20. I really have a hard time seeing even Dusty leaving Murton on the bench to start the year. I know Dubois was jerked around last year, but all Jason had to show he deserved the shot was years and years of minor league #s. I think minor league #s mean slightly more than nothing to Dusty. Murton put up a damn good 1/4 of a season in the majors, which should mean a lot to Dusty. Cedeno on the other hand, I'm sure Dusty thinks hasn't proven himself yet and will be left to rot.
  21. That's what I was thinking. Wouldn't it be ironic if USC got bounced out by the BCS? That would be 2 out of 3 years. That's fine, they could just say they won the national title again anyways.
  22. Reinsdorf's could live his boyhood dream that way, but it'd have nothing to do with the World Series. He'd live his boyhood dream of making more money.
