  1. Yeah but their one run record was so much better this year cause of SMARTBALL!!! No wait, they were only slightly better after putting up a very good 28-18 record in one run games last year. Well, the '04 Sox probably blew out way more teams than '05. No wait, that record isnt' very far apart either from year to year... Hmmmm still looking for anything more than anecdotal evidence. EDIT: Interesting tidbit, the lumbering, can't play smallball '04 team had 5 more sacrifices than the gogo '05 team.
  2. Didn't realize how much Pierre was due to make next year...not so good.
  3. "SMARTBALL" resulted in the brilliant White Sox runners getting thrown out stealing 33% of the time. "SMARTBALL" resulted in the brilliant White Sox GO TEAM GO offense scoring 124 runs less than they did the year before. The Sox pitching allowed 185 runs fewer than they did in '04. That's why they won. It had nothing to do with giving away outs for free or moronic team slogans spouted off by an incomprehensive jagoff.
  4. Seriously, First street in Champaign, the big house in between John and Green. I'll pay for the bullet and gun.
  5. 3 of my friends went as Batman, Superman, and Spiderman for halloween. (Blatantly violating the girl costume = slut rule from Mean Girls) Batman is definitely the hottest of the 3 so Batman wins.
  6. They do. King is angry because he DIDN'T get to play. Surely sitting on the greatest bullpen bench in the world surrounded by the greatest fans in the world sitting in the most historic ballpark in the world would be better than playing for someone else.
  7. With the Trib, that should be the equivalent of you or I finding 86 cents in the couch cushion. The Trib puts up a top 5 payroll, they aren't to blame. Assuming that 40 mil is correct, that would put the payroll upwards of 110 million. What did they end up spending last year?? About $103-105 million?? With the way the Trib rakes in the money off the Cubs, $110 mil. is reasonable. Cub fans deserve it. It absolutely amazes me that people still let Hendry/Dusty off the hook with the "Trib is cheap" excuse. 103-105M isn't enough? THat's why we lost last year cause we didn't have an extra 7M? What exactly would Hendry have spent it on? Extra money to Dusty's loyalty guys.
  8. surely you jest!?! From what I've seen, SAS just states whatever the mainstream media is saying at the time (e.g. OMG PATS R SO GOOD!!!111) and says it with an urban accent. Viewing his ridiculous attire is just a bonus. Quite Frankly, I don't care for him. Stephen A. Smith is the worst thing on television.
  9. There's just no way it happens. I just cannot see it happening. I'll be real surprised if it happens. Just doesn't seem like a good match. Philly wants a 3b and the Cubs have no one besides ARam to offer. However, I think Abreu's more likely than Giles. Yeah but Hendry might not think ARam can catch the ball.
  10. Thanks a lot Bruce for taking some time out to deal with us.
  11. And on top of how terrible it will be to see Neifi pick up 450 ABs this year. This seals the deal on 2 of my favorite Cubs for '06 in Walker and Nomar. I hate you Jim Hendry, I hope you never get a job after you're inevitably fired when MacPhail wakes up from his 11 year nap.
  12. So how much are the other GMs gonna be laughing behind Hendry's back?
  13. Active SPs with better career ERA+ than Kerry Wood (minimum 1000 IP): 18 On that list you have Derek Lowe who accumulated a substantial amount of that ERA+ as a reliever. You have 4 of the greatest pitchers of all time (Pedro, Clemens, Johnson, Maddux) You have Kevin Brown whose career is pretty much over. You have Schilling, Smoltz, Mussina, and Glavine all of whom are on the wrong side of 35. I don't think it's fair to compare Kerry's #s to any of those players listed above which leaves him with Hudson, Zito, Buehrle, Halladay, Petitte, Colon, Morris, and Mulder as the non-old, non-legend players with better careers thus far. Looks pretty impressive to me, and looks like a pretty promising next 10 years. Kerry Wood is the most unjustly hated man in Chicago baseball.
  14. It's gonna take a hell of an effort and a hell of a lot of money for Hendry to redeem himself in my eyes. He's in a coma, and it's gonna take a lot to stop me from pulling the plug on him.
  15. Times like these I hate that this is a family board.
  16. Because an arbitrator is far more likely to be swayed by stats than by something that can't be proven, like Bradley being a negative influence. GMs are allowed to pay by intangible, but when you're an impartial party, you're going to need hard evidence.
  17. I have a hard time hating Podsednik because he pretty much single handedly won those games against the Stros in '03.
  18. Come on US, let us be blissfully ignorant for a little while longer.
  19. Same if I was, but you honestly don't think that his antics are gonna cost him money in the open market?
  20. SSR: If Bradley is non-tendered, he becomes a FA. Then the Cubs will have to bid against other teams for his services. IMO, Bradley will get more being a FA than he will in arbitration. Just my opinion. I disagree, I see him getting 4M+ in arbitration, and I think his clubhouse problems are going to make him greatly undervalued on the open market.
  21. It's beyond not too interesting, it's painful to watch. ESPN sucks.
  22. I was there for that one. Absolutely terrifying, and the day I lost all faith in Bob Davie. 4th down for ND with about 8 seconds left. Rather than having Powlus(or a better idea, a QB with some mobility) run backwards then around in circles for 10 seconds, he has Powlus take the snap, step back about 4 yards, and DOWN IT WITH A SECOND LEFT.
  23. Isn't that what happened two years ago? It's exactly what happened two years ago. Thanks to SC not losing since 2003, no one even remembers that technically LSU won that year's national title. Raisin does :)
  24. Giving up a prospect for Bradley isn't my problem. The problem is I think we could save about 1M by not having to go thru arbitration with him if we wait for the non-tender.
