  1. You're hilarious. ND doesn't join a conference because their financial situation is such that they don't need to and also because they have far too many rivals to expect to play them all in addition to a conference schedule. You are making fun of them for SOS? ND consistently has a top-10 toughest slate, which is more than I can say for anyone in the crappy Big Eleven. If ND has gotten favors from the refs I haven't seen it. Everyone agrees that they got jobbed by the refs in the USC game, and I don't see any past evidence of ND getting favorable calls except for one game against Navy in 1999 when they got a terrible spot that, if spotted correctly would have ended their win streak over Navy. That's the only example I have known of, of bad officiating in favor of ND. Michigan could never play USC close especially this year. They couldn't even hold Minnesota to OT at home when it was tied and the Gophers had it inside their own 30, so I doubt they could ever stop USC. Your arguments are baseless, wrong, and absurd. You mean a football conference....right? Obviously Notre Dame football is a completely different animal than the other Notre Dame sports.
  2. I think I'd take ND about 9 out of 11 times vs. MSU.
  3. I think Burnitz is something else in the hand, but it does rhyme with bird. I would like him as a 4th OF. If Baker has 3 solid OF's I wouldn't mind him being the 4th guy and the Cubs could afford it. If the Cubs can find a cheaper 4th OF that is as productive, which I think Burnitz would be in the 4th role, I am for it. I just think Hendry is covering his OF. Now...if he is waiting to see and make Burnitz a starter, I'm with you 100%. Also, can Burnitz play first at all? He didn't play there last year I know but that was because he was a "fixture" in right. You give me Hairston (also extra inf), Patterson and Burnitz as the extra OF's and I'll be happy with that. Let me also ask what the Cubs have coming up for the OF in the next couple of years? Pie in 2007 and is there anyone else? Brandon Sing had a huge year in the OF, but I believe he's getting pretty old. I'd like to see him get a serious look as a bench player for this year.
  4. Aqua Man "Hi Fish." "Hi Aquaman" "Have you seen anything suspicious...under the water?" "Hi Aquaman"
  5. If I didn't have work I would've tried to buy and sell for a profit. Forget my friends, I have a 290 dollar ticket to pay.
  6. Most Sox fans love Guillen, but most Sox fans are idiots.
  7. Yeah the White Sox haven't done anything stunningly stupid in this series. Making the first out at home is pure fundamental baseball. The Sox have played some mind-numbingly stupid baseball this series, moreso than I recall the Cubs doing in the 1st 4 games of the NLCS.
  8. I know he said that USC/ND wasn't even the best game of the day let alone the year, but I don't if that's what prompted the line. May's an idiot and a douche.
  9. Bowa being mentioned for the A's job is very intriguing.
  10. I'm heading to ND for the game this weekend, I should be sporting my #44 Marc Edwards jersey if anyone sees me.
  11. History of winning? How is that applicable here? That's about as bad as thinking curses exist. Better manager, health of pitching, and improvement of talent are the reasons why one team has progressed and one has regressed, not history. No, 1908 (not the admin here) and the Cards winning 9 WS have nothing to do with it, since there's no one in either organization that remains from 1908 or 1982 (maybe one area scout roaming North Dakota might remain, but he likely got replaced by a computer in a cubicle in the Cards front office). I gotta say I like the Giants and Dodgers chances for the WS next year.
  12. Haven't read through the thread, but in case it hasn't been posted, here's a link to the highlights from yesterday. (Click yesterday, then Angels/White Sox, then Escobar strikes out the side.) The last strike out in the set is in the dirt. Eddings makes the swing and miss call with his right arm, and then after the tag is applied he pumps the fist. Not only is Eddings incompetent, he's a liar.
  13. Okay, tell us the guy you want for 2M then, and come back next season if that guy turns into nothing. There's something to be said for a degree of certainty. And eliminating Dempster's 3 run saves makes things look a lot worse than they are. Even the best closers don't nail down all the 1 run leads. Dempster was 14-16 in 1-run games this year. With 1 of the blown saves being a 2 inning appearance and one of the saves being a 2.2 inning appearance. Along with that he had 0 mult-run blown saves. Hoffman went 17-19 in 1 run games with 1 multi-run blown. Rivera 13-16, 1 multi run. Wagner 12-15, 0 multi run.
  14. Fresh Stats OPS+ Lee: 177 Pujols: 167 Jones: 133 And for Cy Young ERA+ Clemens: 221 Pettitte: 174 Willis: 153 Carpenter: 151
  15. Of course it's intriguing, there's a certain team missing from the matchups.
  16. I'm rooting against the White Sox about as hard as anyone on this board. I'm surrounded by these idiots. These idiots are my obnoxious friends. But no, I would not want to see Go Red Sox. I'd prefer to not stoop to their level and be that bush league.
  17. Murton Nomar Giles Lee Ramirez Walker Barrett Patterson Zambrano Prior Wood Maddux Williams Dempster Williamson Ohman Novoa Wuertz Hill Mitre/Wellemeyer Cedeno Greenberg Blanco Hairston Sing
  18. Wow, that's Dusty-like. The Cubs were also 16-13 in Sept/Oct this year. And 17-13 last year. And 19-8 the year before.
  19. That's stupid, it woulda been funny if they had a sign that said go Red Sox LOL!!!!!! Everyone knows showing class is stupid!!
  20. Keep in mind thoughk, Abreu plays half his road games in RFK, Pro Player, Turner, and Shea, all pitchers stadiums. Giles gets Coors, the BOB, Chavez, and SBC, probably slightly leaning towards hitting overall. I think Home/Road splits can be useful when dealing with situations like a Petco and to a small extent Coors(hangover effect diminishes their value) but I'm certainly not ready to make a call on Abreu or Giles based on them alone (Ohhh the offseason.)
  21. Dye Konerko Everett That will be the heart of their order. S-H-A-M
  22. How is this typical? Can you site other incidents similar to this from the White Sox this year? Every year for the past 4 years, the Sox telling the media that they're better than the Twins. "Magglio Ordonez is a Venezuelan #####! He's got an enemy (More ##### and more hateful obnoxiousness)" Buehrle's whining about the Rangers supposed cheating from a team whose fans would gloat for years about what a great sign stealer Nossek was. Guillen's whining at every single oppurtunity possible about everything and anything. If Podsednik's mediocre year didn't appeal so well to old-schoolers, I can't understand why anyone would root for this sham of a team.
  23. The Cubs have A LOT of money to spend this offseason. I don't want to see another significant dollar spent on the pen, the IF and C besides SS should be set. I want Murton to take one of the OF spots. That leaves a hell of a lot of money for 2 OF positions and SS. Dropping 5M on the potential for the best SS in the NL is not flushing down the toilet, it's a smart move. 5M could be spent on Nomar and Giles and whomever is the latest CF of choice can still be fit in the budget. The $8 million investment for this year was a killer. Nomar's fools gold. If the NL had a DH, I wouldn't mind him coming back as much. Right cause next year's payroll will be distributed exactly the same way as this year's payroll, only apparently +3M
  24. Guillen gives the choke sign to the Cleveland crowd when making a pitching change yesterday. Typical of this team and their fans. Go Boston.
