  1. Classy move by DJ earlier in the game accusing Peralta of corking his bat.
  2. It didn't? Based on what? The 3 weeks they played together?
  3. Could the Yanks make up 4 on the White Sox? Let's hope so! Actually, let's hope that the Yankees lose every remaining game and the A's and the Angels go on a massive roll together and it ends up Red Sox, Indians, A's and Angels! I'm definitely with you on that. Those are the teams I'm rooting for. I think that scenario is just about impossible because the Angels and A's are playing each other 4 times. Go Indians, Angels, Red Sox, Yankees!
  4. Nope. A guy coming off a career year for a contract into his mid 30s? Pass.
  5. What has Ricciardi done, other than being lumped in with the sabr GMs to deserve such praise?
  6. GO ZOOK
  7. Spoken like a sellout. Amen. This entire organization is one giant sellout. This team will never amount to anything until it stops being a line on a corporation's income statement. 100 million dollar pyroll is too low? The Cubs had an 87 million dollar payroll this season. Not 100 million. I can't believe people let MacPhail and Co. get away with that line of garbage all season. Yeah, if they really cared about winning they would've kept Sosa! That way they could've had an even greater sinkhole in the OF and had a 100 million dollar payroll. Then they'd care about winning to you, and that's all that matters.
  8. This comeback happened right after I told my Sox fan roommates that a win over the Royals should only count as half a win.
  9. Yeah but what about Oklahoma?
  10. This is almost exactly the same theme as the Dubois quote earlier this year.
  11. 10-0 Indians in the 2nd.
  12. I hope Jon Garland is one of their starters cause he gon' get shelled.
  13. Well, if by second best you mean worse than Zambrano, Prior, Wood when healthy, and maybe Rusch too, then that'd be correct. I hate to sound like K-Town but actually logging innings helps too. Maddux has undoubtedly been a better pitcher than Wood the past 2 years, because he's actually been on the mound.
  14. The Cubs absolutely have better people running their team than the Devil Rays or Reds. If the Reds had money? Look what they did when they spent a little this offseason. Paul Wilson and Eric Milton. How bout the late 90s D-Rays featuring Greg Vaughn and Vinny Castilla? LaMar and O' Brien are 2 of the worst GMs in baseball.
  15. Well they are now tied in win shares, so now we have a mathematical formula showing us that their respective impacts on winning games, at this point, are the same. In light of that wouldn't you have to say that because the Cardinals will be in the playoffs that, Pujols' win shares have yielded more value than Lee's? No, the fact that the Cardinals have more wins is already built into win shares as there are more win shares for Cardinals than there are for Cubs. And Vance, you're double counting a lot with some of those stats.
  16. I thought 1.5 at first, but I can't imagine even Dusty not starting him for at least 1 game.
  17. No they're not written down anywhere and subject to each individual's interpretation of what MVP means. That's why I suggested 2 awards.....MVP and Player of the Year. And just like I scream at the TV every [expletive] time Joe [expletive] Morgan brings it up, the award ALREADY EXISTS. IT'S ON THE FRONT PAGE OF EVERY TEAM'S WEBSITE.
  18. I'll set the over/under on Soto starts at 2. Any takers?
  19. I hear Kansas City might have an opening.
  20. Hmmmmm to convince K-Town, I have to think like K-Town! I think it's obvious to everyone that it's much more difficult to pitch in clutch situations than in easy situations. Since Carpenter has had such run support all year he's been able to relax while pitching and not have to deal with high pressure situations. Clemens on the other hand has nearly every game be a near shutout for his offense and therefore needs to step it up in the CLUTCH!! Additionally, Carpenter hasn't been in a race for a playoff spot in 2 months. Clemens's starts MATTER more becuase his team is fighting for a playoff spot the whole year. I once again revert to my trained monkey factor in that a trained monkey could have made some of Carpenter's starts this year and they could still be in the playoffs easily. A trained monkey making Clemens's starts would sink the Astros for good. Clemens > Carpenter
  21. Piniella's career winning % pre-Tampa is lower than Dusty's career winning %. That's slightly scewed by the fact that Piniella has been managing quite a bit longer - six seasons longer, actually. My point (again) is that Piniella wins in the playoffs, where Dusty has had his most embarassing moments. I do not think it is fair to compare the two simply on the basis that they both prefer vets over younder guys. You never hear Piniella making excuses for his guys like "its hot", or "we had to play a lot of games in a row w/out a day off". He does not suffer that nonsense. I'd say not making the world series with a 116 win team is pretty embarrassing.
  22. So you can recognize that a guy with 19 wins and a 4.50 ERA doesn't deserve the Cy Young award over Clemens. Even though 19 is more than 14? Even though UNLESS YOUR TEAM WINS, then your start means nothing? Even though your trained monkey factor is still higher for the 4.50 ERA guy than Clemens?
  23. According to the smear campaign by the Sox after he was dealt.
  24. I heard the Rockies have an elaborate cheating system too.
