  1. so pujols wins mvp because sometimes lee throws sunflower seeds at the pitcher, causing him to pitch badly? and lee loses mvp because sometimes the pitcher is on the mound and he gets sad or something and pujols comes over and tells him a joke and makes him happy? wait, screw it, neifi should've won mvp, he talks to the pitchers more than anyone I don't know. Why do YOU think that Pujols won? RBIs, a winning team, and losing to a guy the media hates the past couple years.
  2. For example, Edmonds had a 1.061 OPS in '04 but his OPS dropped to .918 when batting after Pujols this year. Pujols musta slumped big time. Care to reference the relevant parts of the rules for voting on it? So you might say Lee is more valuable to any given team? Doesn't that contradict what you said earlier? Let's say KC had a healthy Bonds all year and lead them to 70 wins with a standard Bondsian season (please keep the steroid debate somewhere else) The team is still brutal, why is it okay, as you said being valuable is only about leading teams towards the playoffs. Nevermind that a player could far and away be the best player in the league, he didn't win!! Even assuming that's true for the entire first half, which is a ridiculously long time, doesn't Lee pretty much make up for it all in this hypothetical by having a 2nd half offense of him and either Ramirez or Nomar while Pujols's offense was somewhat major league caliber? You honestly believe any of that? You think luminaries like Neifi, Macias and Corey Patterson were seeing garbage because pitchers thought that scrub Lee won't be driving him in anyways??
  3. It's a good thing the Cubs don't care about the K. Well hold on, did the White Sox strike out a lot, gotta check with them first.
  4. That's nice to see, obviously we've all thought of it, but nice to see some actual rumor about Epstein being interested here. I'm not even that huge of an Epstein fan, but right now I'm so down on Hendry, I'd welcome Theo. It really is imperative that MacPhail doesn't give those extensions to Hendry/Baker now. If Hendry finishes off the offsesason the way I hope, then this won't be a problem, but it's nice to know that a decent GM is interested should Hendry flop, like I'm afraid he will.
  5. Go ahead and make that argument for me, if you don't mind. I'm DYING to hear it. Cause I guess the MVP is supposed to go to the guy who had a good year for a team that won its division by the smallest margin. Stupid Cardinals won their division by too much that Pujols wasn't valuable enough. Value only counts when your teammates are either good enough to put you in contention, or bad enough to keep you from running away with it. Unfortunately for Lee and Pujols, Lee's teammates didn't realize they were supposed to be good this year. and Pujols's teammates didn't realize they were supposed to be bad. To re-cap, the only teams that had players that could be considered the most valuable in the league were the Braves, Astros, and Phillies. The other 13/16 of the league weren't even close.
  6. Like pretty much everyone else here, I can accept Pujols winning it, cause him and Lee were really close, but it is kinda funny that the silver slugger and gold glover at 1st base finished as the 2nd highest 1st baseman in the voting.
  7. That really isn't fair. How does I-AA get figured into stuff like the computer polls? Does it just not count as a win at all? Or does it give a big hit to the SOS?
  8. and guys who can steal 50+ bases with a potential .370+ obp. but more importantly, guys who can catch the ball. Just like dem White Sox. See, the Sox showed Hendry that if you score less runs but appear to be "scrappy", you'll win the whole shebang. SMARTBALL~!
  9. I think Ty has them losing to Michigan, slaughtered by MSU and USC, and probably a close game vs. Pitt and UT.
  10. 1.72 is heinous. As long as that's the one that happened last year, I want no part of Marte. Me and my Cubs fan friend's favorite exclamation during the Sox playoffs was "PUT IN MARTE!"
  11. For the record Ortiz made 2 errors last year.
  12. No fun. I heard Penn St. cheats and uses 13 players when they play but the refs let them off cause they're related to Paterno.
  13. It is rivalry week? Who is ND playing? Oh, Cuse. I don't think it is rivalry week then. ND and their fans determines who are rivals. Of course, if they determine that Cuse is a rival then, rivalry week is back on. Holy bitter.
  14. No, not really Not a very good memory eh? He didn't appear in the one series vs. the white sox when they played in Chicago. Claimed his foot hurt and asked to be put on the DL. And was so dedicated to the charade that he stayed on the DL for a full month after the White Sox series.
  15. Diffusion pretty much covered all I wanted to say, only much better than I could've. Only point I wanna add is that it was mentioned earlier about hitting to the other side of the field not showing up in the boxscore. Another thing that doesn't show up in the box score are botched bunts, either putting a guy down 0-2 or resulting in fielder's choice, DP, what have you. It also doesn't show up on what Iguchi or Podsednik could have done had they not given up themselves by not even attempting to get a hit. It amazes me that broadcasters and Guillen will give Iguchi extra credit saying that his #s aren't as good as they should be because of how many times he gave himself up to move Podsednik over, and then in the next sentence talk about how this was a good thing. They are admitting that Iguchi could do better if given the chance to actually hit, thus helping his individual #s, thus helping the team; and yet they applaud his actions of giving away one of the precious few 27 outs so often.
  16. Ahhh plate patience. 435 walks for '05 Sox 499 walks for '04 Sox.
  17. Why does he have to regress? How come he just couldn't have turned the corner at 25 (the age he was all season)? He's still very young. His numbers are on par with his previous seasons, he just stopped walking people. Becuase of 4 full seasons of mediocrity?
  18. Per his contract, he can request a trade and AZ must deal him before March 15 or he becomes a FA. Thus, I think AZ will be willing to eat some of his money raher than losing him for nothing. I also don't think he's posturing at all. Go check out the article at ESPN.com to see what I mean. And Rick Reed said very similar things after being dealt to Minnesota. Minnesota couldn't get fair market value, called his bluff, and he stayed put, cause nobody was giving him 8M a year. Just like if Zona calls his bluff, Vazquez will stay put cause he won't be forfeiting the 5M or so a year if he hit the open market just before the season started.
  19. Trust me, Reinsdorf is making tons of money. He wouldn't still be around if he wasn't. And 4 words on Jon Garland: Regression towards the mean. I want nothing to do with him.
  20. Wondered how the hell a thread went up to 10 pages since this morning. Of course, Adam Dunn. After last year's excitement over nothing I refuse to ever believe we'll get any of the Reds OFs besides maybe Wily Mo Pena.
  21. Posturing. I bet he stays in Arizona, cause no team's gonna want to pay him as much as he gets now.
  22. Because Clemens needed his bullpen to give up a run per inning to match Carpenter's output?
  23. I disagree with K-Town on some of those issues, but come on...that's a little unnecessary. Come on, follow the progression, he took a joke by abuck and either continued along in his fantasy or his sarcasm was too strong for me to pick up on. Either way, I think my response can be seen in the same regard as his.
  24. i'd be so drunk, the sign would be upside down and i'd be in my birthday suit. I'd be upside down in my birthday suit.
