  1. Don't worry....Dusty will take of that problem for you in regards to Murton. Mabry will be playing LF for the majority of the games until he hits below 200 and then he'll just platoon with Murton. You are a sick, sick man. Me or Dusty? There is no doubt in my mind if Mabry hits 270 or above he will be the starting LF for the Cubs in 06 and get at least 450 AB's. I'm really getting sick of pseudo-defending Dusty on this and Mabry won't hit 270 or above so there's no use betting, but I would bet my (admittedly very small) bank account on Mabry getting fewer than 450 ABs this year. Hollandsworth's ABs over a 162 game period last year wouldn't have been 450 and he had a season of good #s for Dusty, and Dusty repeatedly saying he earned the chance. Dusty has already said Mabry is a bench guy, and when Dusty doesn't even give the vet the ol earned his chance, then you know he ain't playing.
  2. They're both blabbering idiots is my favorite. But back to the hidden ball, the 2 from the same season are on the White Sox WS DVD. The 2nd one that season is pretty hilarious as the 1st baseman really smacks him hard on the head with the ball.
  3. Alou would be the best OF on the team, it would be insane to platoon him. And I can't see the Giants giving up a 900 OPS from the coach's son at a price of 6M.
  4. This thread is depressing.
  5. Geez Barrett again getting shafted. If that starting 5 only gets 75 decisions, I'll eat my hat.
  6. I'd much rather see the ball softened and the parks bigger, the RF line at Yankee stadium and older parks with smaller dimensions should obviously be grandfathered in. But, the dimensions at Minute Maid (Crawford Boxes) as well as the GABP are too small and should've been larger. I'd much rather watch a game built more around pitching and player execution on offense that extends beyond hitting the ball 450 feet. Manufacturing runs is a concept that doesn't work well in today's climate, but it is better to watch, IMO. Didn't you hear?? OZZIEBALL~!~!~!~! won the world series. PITCHING AND DEFENSE!!! MOVING RUNNERS OVER!!!!! BUNTING!!!! TRYING FOR ONE RUN RATHER THAN 4!!!! I didn't read the article because like others in this thread I'm sick of old-timers whining, especially in Gossage's case when he's doing it to further his HOF agenda, but does anyone else remember pretty much the same quote from Gossage last year? Is this an annual thing with him or are they quoting him from the past?
  7. Am I wrong in thinking the Bears clinch a playoff spot with a win tonight. With a max of 3 losses to NFC teams, I'm assuming they'd have the best conference record compared to Dallas and Minnesota. Along with having head to head win over Atlanta.
  8. I agree that the Brewers are starting to get really overrated. I think they win about 77 games next year. '07's their year to contend.
  9. So does anybody want a tonic?
  10. Do you say, "Q-tip" instead of cotton swab or "Kleenex" instead of tissue? Big difference. A q-tip is a q-tip. It doesn't matter what brand, same with a kleenex. A coke, pepsi, sprite, dr. pepper, mountain dew, etc are all very different. what? Q-tip is a brand name and so is Kleenex. You can get Scott's tissues and you can get CVS brand cotton swabs. There is no difference. What's the difference between Q-tips and generic cotton swabs? Between Kleenex and Puffs? Very little. Now what's the difference between Coke and Mountain Dew? Very little. They're both syrup based caffienated beverages.
  11. vaball pretty much sums up what I would say, but the Cardinals owners WERE NOT losing money the past 5 years. The books in baseball are so cooked it's ridiculous.
  12. Sounds like he should be a baseball owner!
  13. New York is a Yankees town, Chicago is a Cubs town.
  14. Ha! Missourians said "screw you" when billionaires attempted to strong arm the taxpayers into financing a new stadium, the only purpose of which is to increase revenue for said billionaires. Don't get me wrong, I love the Cardinals with all my heart, but tax money, especially in a time of huge budget deficits, should not go to building cash cows for private billionaires and their millionaire employees. Selig's mafia will be by soon to silence you.
  15. Of course they wouldn't repeat if they got Tejada. Because they probably actually would be the best team on paper in baseball. They can only win when they're not a great team apparently.
  16. I never said Corey would be an above average RF. The fact that he only played half a season in '03 doesn't mean he wasn't well above average for that year. The fact that we have another CF on the roster doesn't mean Corey wasn't above average in '04.
  17. How could that be true, don't they now have the money they would have paid Clemens? Last year the Astros payroll was around 85 million dollars. This year, they owe Pettitte 17.5 million, Bagwell 17 million, Berkman 14.5 million, Oswalt 11 million, and Biggio 4 million. That's 64 million for just 5 players. Lidge and Ensberg will get nice paydays in arbitration. They do have some money to spend, but they have to be careful how they allocate it as there's just not a lot of wiggle room there. In addition, that money to Clemens was always referred to as "special money" by McClane. Still seems hard to believe though with that added revenue from a WS run.
  18. I don't think Dusty has a high opinion of his ability to get water from rocks. He has a high opinion of the rocks. Just like Dusty said Dempster and Hollandsworth weren't in the running last year? No wait. Every quote from Dusty last year showed that Hollandsworth would be his starting LF and Dempster would be in the rotation. He paid lip service to an open competition. He has gone on record as saying Mabry is not a starter. Saying nothing about an open competition, nothing about a proven track record, nothing about showing what he's done throughout his career.
  19. O_O, I've heard from a couple places that the Stros payroll is pretty much tapped out assuming Bagwell is back for the full season.
  20. Could we stop saying Mabry is going to be the starter. There are tons of legitamate gripes about this management, and instead you have to make things up like Mabry starting despite Dusty "open competition" Baker himself saying Mabry is not a starter.
  21. Ok we trade Walker, Cedeno, and Williams and get bact Michael Young? And I thought we overpaid for Pierre. No thank you. Why not just take that same package and offer it to Baltimore for Tejada straight up? The Cubs would have to get another player in the deal. Considering age and cost Young > Tejada Young is supposedly a horrible defensive SS.
  22. Corey, IMO, was an above average player in '03 and '04 when factoring in his CF defense. I have no clue what happened to him last year to make him fall off a cliff, but those '03 and '04 seasons still happened, and you still have to factor them in when considering his value.
  23. I understand that that money very well may have been used to up payroll in the past few years, but I think the Cardinal organization was at least somewhat misleading when talking about payroll with regards to the new stadium.
  24. STREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTCH. I could see the argument that Oregon is a better team than Georgia, and there's little doubt in my mind that they're better than FSU. But Penn St.?? Texas???
