  1. The reward isn't even that high. Ponson was never that good to begin with. He was a decidedly average pitcher before he lost his velocity, now he's just goo.
  2. God forbid a team buys low on young player in a low risk move. Buying low on a young player with upside is always a great idea, I don't see what that has to do with Sidney Ponson though.
  3. Here's hoping Ponson has a great ST, and the usually astute Cardinals are dumb enough to take his 30ish inning sample as proof he should start. Over/Under on Ponson's ERA next year? About 5.50?
  4. You make it sound like this isn't a horrible deal. Damon will have all the range of Bernie Williams '04 in 2 years.
  5. The key to it is so far, and considering what the lack of pretty much anything from the Cards or Stros, the answer has to be one of them. Though, if I were a Card fan, I'd have a certain faith in Jocketty actually getting something done before ST as opposed to all of our feelings about Hendry.
  6. Look at September, he almost started half the games. Dusty doesn't hate young players. Word has it he's planning on starting him in MORE THAN half of the Spring Training games.
  7. From July 1st on, Prior definitely did not have an ERA above 5. He was worse in the 2nd half, but still not that bad; just a rough estimate by looking at his month by month ERAs I'd say it was probably around 4.10-4.20. He had an ERA+ of 116 last year, which is no doubt disappointing, and I'm hoping for much better next year, but it's far from below average. (Edited for confusing grammar.)
  8. Reyes will be in the rotation. One of two things will happen. Ponson will bomb in spring training (very likely), or Ponson will be good in spring training, and Marquis will be traded for outfield help. If Marquis is traded I'd imagine it's well before ST. I don't see many teams entering ST with both a gaping hole in their rotation and an extra starting OF lying around.
  9. The Braves non-tendered Obermuller (the guy they got back in the trade)as well. It sounds like Kolb will wind up back with the Brewers.
  10. Just being the nitpicker here, but Burnitz's stats posted earlier in the thread aren't right. His '03 is only his Mets #s, his actual '03 was 239/299/487 And calling Jones average in RF is pretty ridiculous. He's been below average as a hitter, but there's no need to make things up to make him look worse. Jones is a very good defender.
  11. And Jocketty fires back! This offseason just keeps getting more and more like Brewster's Millions.
  12. And they're just itching to downgrade 2B greatly to make up for it.
  13. Probably the same thing to Murton they did to him when Hairston came back this year. This time they might be nice enough to sit him on the bench for the time being because the other guys have experience.
  14. Baseball Prospectus calculates FRAR, which is fielding runs saved over replacement. Can someone post that, please? I would like to know just how many runs Jacques "Savior" Jones is going to save us this year in right. Not that Hendry would actually do any research on something like that.
  15. This is the best picture I could find online to sum up my feelings. And I'm not really sure it worked anyways. http://image61.webshots.com/161/2/94/87/526329487KhDULr_ph.jpg
  16. Yeah, Jim, defense really is the key to victory. Look what a good defense has done for the other Chicago team...I'd say they've turned out alright. are you really so naive to buy into that? the white sox won because they hit a bunch of homers and had lights out pitching. Look one line down...And I can't find my USB to upload my picture right now... :(
  17. The NL West sure is a horrible division.
  18. He can catch the ball though right? And I like Tree's idea, I'm going to take mine now.
  19. To be fair, Neifi can play SS and Freel cannot. In addition comparing their salaries straight up isn't fair as I believe Freel may still have 1 pre-arbitration year, although this may be his first. Either way, he's not being paid market value because he's still under team control.
  20. On Sing, he was a minor league free agent this year and was re-signed by the Cubs. For whatever reason(defense?) teams don't seem to be very interested in him, otherwise they woulda made some effort to sign him when he was free.
  21. Don't worry....Dusty will take of that problem for you in regards to Murton. Mabry will be playing LF for the majority of the games until he hits below 200 and then he'll just platoon with Murton. You are a sick, sick man. Me or Dusty? There is no doubt in my mind if Mabry hits 270 or above he will be the starting LF for the Cubs in 06 and get at least 450 AB's. I'm really getting sick of pseudo-defending Dusty on this and Mabry won't hit 270 or above so there's no use betting, but I would bet my (admittedly very small) bank account on Mabry getting fewer than 450 ABs this year. Hollandsworth's ABs over a 162 game period last year wouldn't have been 450 and he had a season of good #s for Dusty, and Dusty repeatedly saying he earned the chance. Dusty has already said Mabry is a bench guy, and when Dusty doesn't even give the vet the ol earned his chance, then you know he ain't playing.
  22. They're both blabbering idiots is my favorite. But back to the hidden ball, the 2 from the same season are on the White Sox WS DVD. The 2nd one that season is pretty hilarious as the 1st baseman really smacks him hard on the head with the ball.
