  1. As I said feel free to argue about Koronka or Reyes, I won't contest it. I wouldn't have rostered Dope, but I see the reasoning for it. I agreed with rostering Moore. You need a 3rd catcher on the 40 man IMO, so Soto should have stayed. Wellemeyer I addressed saying I assumed he'd be traded later this offseason. The order the guys are moved off the 40 man roster MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. Flip flopping the order of the transactions would have no bearing on them. I don't understand what you're arguing about Macias or Mitre for.
  2. Barring a plane crash, no.
  3. You're still not getting it. Macias could've been DFAd the day the season ended. Mitre could've been traded that same day and it wouldn't make a difference. A 40 man spot wouldn't magically open up if you removed guys off of it in a different order. The spot had to be opened up. Argue about keeping Koronka on the roster, or the utterly worthless rostering of Reyes(I'm assuming Wellemeyer will be cleared out for a bench guy at some point.), but bringing Macias into the conversation is inaccurate.
  4. If it came to Mabry or Pie as the backup CFs, then it would definitely be an issue.
  5. BECAUSE HE HAD TO CLEAR OUT JVB'S SPOT ANYWAYS. The 40 man roster is full right now, whether he released Macias first and then traded JVB or did it in the order he did it MAKES NO DIFFERENCE.
  6. Can we at least agree that all baseball GMs are anti-semitic?
  7. LINK Doesn't look like it.
  8. And as I tell my Sox fan friends, "They're your problem now. I don't have to deal with them anymore."
  9. There were 3 value dates last year for the record.
  10. Which means pretty much nothing.
  11. Nitpick, but Nunez's line is more productive than Rolen's. 20 points of OBP is worth more than 22 points of SLG. And how old are those odds, Marlins at 1600??
  12. I'm not sure of how many they have but the White Sox have way more than 15 games on WGN. Probably close to 50-60.
  13. I understand what you're saying, but it still comes off wrong IMO. I guarantee Truff and Derwood aren't happy that an FSU LB (allegedly) raped somebody.
  14. 1. Illinois 2. MSU 3. Wisconsin 4. Ohio St. 5. Indiana 6. Michigan 7. Iowa 8. Minnesota 9. Northwestern 10. Purdue 11. Penn St. I think 7 teams in the tourney is pretty close to a lock. Minnesota and NU to the NIT.
  15. Maybe...but I didn't feel like tabulating it. With the individual polls, I can see who gets 75% and we also have a separate thread to debate each candidate's credentials. Are we really doing things any differently than BBWA? Just becasue there's a separate poll for each individual doesn't mean we aren't deciding who should go on the ballot and who shouldn't. The only difference is that we can see the results before we vote, and I'd assume most people aren't checking the results to sway their vote.
  16. Yeah, shoulda given Maggs that low base of 15M to get the high incentive.
  17. Maddux was underpaid at 6M in '04. He was overpaid at 9M in '05. I personally think he'll be about paid what he's worth next year, but I expect him to bounce back a bit from slightly above average to above average.
  18. I'll take Greg Maddux for $9 Million, Alex. I'll take Jon Garland over Mr. #5 starter anyday. Maddux's 3-year pre-retirement/retirement campaign with the Cubs has really disappointed me. I wonder if he will come into camp with another 15 lbs. this spring. The day Maddux takes one for the team and finishes what he started is the day I'll respect him again. This HOF and supposed "team-guy" begs out of more games than anyone in the league and works less than anyone on this team. Pop Quiz: Who faced the most batters for the Cubs in '04 and '05? Answer: Greg "beg out" Maddux. Garland's 3 previous seasons before last year weren't as good as Maddux's '05. Maddux is better quality than a #5 starter. That's assuming you generously peg a #5 starter as league average. EDIT: To add Maddux is durable by league standards not just Cubs injury prone standards. 7th in IP, 8th in Batters faced in '05. 9th in IP in '04.
  19. In addition, A-Ram's season was nowhere close to Lee's.
  20. Yeah but the most recent scouting report isn't what's most important.
  21. McGriff was MacPhail's white whale, not Hendry's. And paying Sosa to play somewhere else and not getting anything in return still would've been a win for the Cubs last year.
  22. Wow. I mean, lots of somewhat witty things passed through my head, but Wow sums it up much better.
  23. So for Spivey it's his career #s that are most important to look at. For Ponson it's his stats from 3 and 4 seasons ago. Never is it most important to look at what a player did last year.
  24. Yesterday, he was saying that the Cubs should make the trade and seemed like he was less than impressed with Prior. Prior probably threw a high fastball for strike 3 one time rather than a slider low and away. Steve doesn't like being shown up.
  25. He learned his lesson from Burnitz around midseason last year. I'm hopeful it doesn't take another 81 games from Jones.
