  1. Correct, although I thought the 2008 Bears team overachieved quite a bit. Anyways, with more established weapons at WR now I still see the Vikings doing quite a bit of passing even without Favre. I'm not even sure what to make of Peterson these days. His YPC has steadily gotten worse since his rookie year and he can't hang onto the ball. I'm sure there are reasons for the former but still. He can still take over a game, but perhaps he's not as terrifying as he was in 2007. Who is going to be 2nd on their depth chart for RB? Albert Young?
  2. Probably pretty close but I think so. It's doubtful that Jackson or Rosenfels even come close to the numbers Favre put up last year. Heck I'm not even sure if Favre himself could/will come close to duplicating those numbers. Whether or not he plays could very well determine if there will be playoff football in Chicago this year.
  3. I'll say 9-7 and in the hunt for the wild card. This team should be decent but the tough schedule and playing in a tough division could cost them the playoffs.
  4. Schlitter has been horrible almost every outing. Time to give someone else a shot.
  5. Don't trust runs allowed to evaluate pitchers - especially minor league pitchers. The fact that he's allowed only one run so far involves a LOT of luck. He's been very, very good. Just not *that* good. This is true but he doesn't have to be "that" good to make our top five. Nobody is expecting him to keep an ERA under 1 or even 2 at any level.
  6. Lefty going today. Hope he's in there anyway but I wouldn't be surprised if it's Baker.
  7. Oh and three homers from LaHair tonight? Somebody wants Lee's job.
  8. The more I research on both of these players the more I can see why the Dodgers dealt them. McDonald has struggled in AAA this year and is almost 26 while Lambo is currently a light-hitting left fielder who has supposedly failed two drug tests. It's still too much to give for Octavio Dotel, but I probably wouldn't have taken either of them over DeWitt or Wallach. I wouldn't have minded McDonald instead of Smit though.
  9. Is Archer the starter version of Marmol? High velocity, hard to hit, but with control problems. That said, for as long as he allows just one earned run every 33 innings you won't hear any complaining from me. Unless he completely implodes sometime between now and September, I don't see anyway he doesn't make our top five and the MLB top 100 next year. Great night for B. Jackson. Tennessee is awesome this year.
  10. Archer so far: 3 IP 1 H 0 ER 0 BB 4 SO :-) Jackson with a double.
  11. I have no idea how the Pirates got those two prospects for Octavio Dotel.
  12. Besides Jeff Baker, when's the last time we traded for a major league hitter? Jason Kendall? Seems like we're always acquiring pitching.
  13. Sounds like a decent trade. I don't think we could have realistically expected someone like Sands in a deal for Ted Lilly and Ryan Theriot. I think I would have liked Ely instead of Wallach and Smit, but it's fine. At first I thought I would have preferred sending Theriot and Russell to the D-Backs for Johnson but it sounds like Dewitt has better defense and is four years younger with more upside. We'll see if Rudy can work some magic on him. I feel pretty good about it right now considering Jim has recently come out on top with the DeRosa trade, Bradley trade, and Gorzelanny trade.
  14. The tweet says the D-Backs would need a SS if they lose Drew. Playing Theriot out of position all these years could pay off after all.
  15. Outside of Castro and Lee, I'm not sure we have a SS as good as Gordon (or close, even). Junior Lake probably is, but all signs indicate him moving to third. I'll always take a little extra minor league depth. True. I've just all but penciled in Castro as the SS for years to come, and only moving to 2B if Lee turns out. I suppose Gordon could push him to 2B as well. Depth is never a bad thing, but I rather get a 1B prospect like Sands, even though it would take a lot more than Ted Lilly to acquire him.
  16. No thanks: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=strang001dev The numbers aren't that bad. If we were thin at SS in this system I'd be all for Gordon. I still wouldn't complain if we got him, but I rather see Jim address another position.
  17. We'd finally have a legitmate base stealer in our future if we got Gordon. We'd also have an over-crowded middle infield in a couple years.
  18. I'm not confident at all that we'll get a good return for Lilly.
  19. Didn't we do it for cap purposes? Oh well. I'm interested to see what Wootton can do, hopefully he'll get playing time behind Anderson.
  20. I'll join if there's an opening.
  21. Unfortunately the Colvin at 1B experiment looks like a real possibility.
  22. A huge key to how well this offense performs will be Forte, who is supposedly 100% healthy now. People on CTL yesterday were talking about how he was hurt a lot worse than what most people thought. Hopefully he can rebound from his injury Soriano style.
  23. Not only that, but more than a couple of his INTs from last year were due to blown receiver routes and general inability by the receivers to make a play on the ball. It's no coincidence that when Aromashodu (the tallest receiver of the bunch) started making plays, Cutler's numbers improved. Martz likes those shorter, faster WR's though doesn't he? Those WR's that blew routes or didn't make plays last year are going to have far more complexities this year than they did under Turner. Cutler has said more than once that he likes bigger targets. That said, if Martz schemes the offense to work to the strengths of the shorter receivers like I think he will, then we should be in good shape. Hester, Knox, and Bennett each having another year of experience under their belts should help cut down on the route mistakes despite playing in a more complex system.
