I hate to sound optimistic because I do not think this team has a chance, but him getting hot may be big for this year. A big 2-3 week stretch and the cubs may be right back in this. Realistically they only need to pick up 4-5 games by end of July to feel like they have a chance. I'm pretty sure this year is over. That said, there are plenty of reasons to still watch this team. At least until NFL starts.

Of course he can't sustain the rate he is currently hitting HRs, because right now he is on pace for 40 in about 540 ABs, which would be a full season's worth of ABs. If he can just hit 18-22 HRs a year he would be plenty useful assuming he can learn to take more walks. Anyone who has seen some of Colvin's homers this year knows the guy has quite a bit of power. He has hit several moonshots already.

About 30-35. The start of football season is one of the best times of the year IMO. New Madden game, NFL and college football starting up, and fantasy football (which is 100x more fun than any other sport for fantasy). Anyways, I still cannot give up on this season. If we can find a way to take care of the Pirates and Reds while at the same time the Brewers (who are playing well) take care of the Cardinals, this division could quickly become a 4-team race heading into the ASB. Very unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

Suspend Z for however long you have to, but putting him back in the bullpen upon his return makes zero sense. And the fact that they announced this right away just a couple weeks after they all but admitted the Z bullpen experiment failed makes it apparent that the move back to the bullpen will be out of punishment instead of in the best interest of the team. Suspending him is enough punishment. Let him return to the rotation and put Wells in the bullpen. -
The Cubs have lost 8 of their last 9 series and have lost the series opener in all 9, but have not been swept in any of the 8 series losses. They've been extremely good at salvaging a game for whatever reason. Cue the Marmol collapse.
