  1. Interesting that Lee has not started at 1B since the Zambrano game.
  2. Marquez Smith went 4 for 4 with a homer. OPS now above .800 in AAA.
  3. Bears football now please. While another year of mediocrity is probable, their chances of making the playoffs and advancing are lightyears ahead of the Cubs. It helps to start out with the Lions at home. Bad thing is, if we lose that game it might be enough to derail the entire season.
  4. Brett Jackson! Just noticed he also has 8 triples in 260 ABs this year. Move the guy up.
  5. The only reason Lou should be embarassed is because Z did what Lou hasnt done all year and acted like he gave a damn. Absolutely. I don't think Z should have called out his teammates, but props to him for caring that his own team is garbage. And how long was Z suspended for the Barrett incident? Obviously this suspension is coming from the Cubs and not MLB, correct? Either way, I don't see anything Z did today that was worse than the pounding he gave Barrett. I want to say he was only suspended a couple weeks for that. "Indefinitely" seems like a much longer period of time.
  6. After seeing that dugout rant by Zambrano, I stick by my position that this current team needs to be broken up completely. I'm pretty sure clubhouse chemistry and morale has not been good since DeRosa left/Bradley arrived. Oh and my mancrush continues to grow on Bob Brenly.
  7. Who is Russ Canzler? Putting together a nice season in AA.
  8. Hmm. It still doesn't feel like his cold streaks in the past. Perhaps because he is not failing in as many meaningful spots or due to the fact that so many have already called it a season that it's less magnified. Either way, Soriano seems to be headed in the right direction these past few games.
  9. Soriano really hasn't even had one of his infamous cold streaks this year to this point. And weren't people saying at the beginning of the year that Soriano and Soto having rebound years was the key to this team's success? Well they've both rebounded and we're worse this year. I'm sure next year they'll be saying the same thing about Lee and Ramirez.
  10. Vargas has hardly been a bad pitcher this year. I was talking about in general, although Vargas has been mediocre at best over his entire career.
  11. Possibly due to the small sample size and number of crappy has beens or never will bes that hang out in AAA. His limited stuff is good enough to get out non-elite hitters, but not to get out the best. Maybe? There are "crappy has beens" in MLB too, not to mention all the AAAA players and defensive specialists. It's not like his numbers in AAA are just okay. Heck, if the walks were down just a bit his WHIP would be under 1. I know people hate Shark, but I'm just saying.
  12. Why has Shark been so good at the AAA level? 34 IP and only 18 hits? :-s
  13. Lose to the bad pitchers and beat the good pitchers. It's happened all year long. I guess that means the Cubs win this one.
  14. Just horrible, but the good news is that it's not as frusterating when it's so damn predictable. But some kind of change needs to be made right now. And we need to keep losing so we can get rid of a few pieces before the deadline. If we stay within 6-7 games of the division, we might end up being buyers and that's the worst thing that could happen to this team this year.
  15. Kosuke was never going to play against left-handers this year. The only sign that he's been relegated to a backup role is the two games against right-handers that Colvin started a week ago. Since then the Cubs have only faced one right-hander and Fukudome started that game. The fact that Colvin is getting these starts against lefties despite being the worse defender tells me that he has moved ahead of Kosuke on the depth chart.
  16. Jackson getting roughed up again. 4 ER through 3 IP so far. Let it be noted that he hasn't been very good since they tried him out in the bullpen.
  17. Oh and I see Kosuke has been officially been relegated to a backup. $14 million this year for a 4th (or maybe even 5th at this point) outfielder. Awesome.
  18. This series is worth watching for Bradley alone. Although there would be much more drama if this series was at Wrigley. Try not allowing a first inning run tonight, Dempster.
  19. Very excited for Wednesday. I see this as a new start to the season for Aramis. His numbers in Peoria weren't great, but I'm holding out hope that being healthy and rested will help him regain form.
  20. I don't even care what we get in return. Theriot being on the team is preventing a Baker/Fontenot platoon at 2B which is almost a gauranteed upgrade.
  21. It's been awhile since I've seen Marquez Smith mentioned around here. Does he have any sort of future with the Cubs? He is a few years older than Vitters, but is also further along in the farm. I think if we have to shut down Ramirez in the near future I rather give this guy a shot than Chad Tracy.
  22. Is the Cards' farm system so bad that there is really no better alternative? I can immediately think of at least 8-10 Cubs farm pitchers who I'd rather start a game than Jeff Suppan. He's that bad.
