  1. So a lot of people have already given up on the 2010 Bears after 3 preseason games? I have my concerns too, and they did look awful tonight. But the point remains that there is only a certain amount of stock you can put into preseason, whether good or bad. If they start off 0-3 or 0-4 and you write off the season then, that's more understandable. Or actually if they lose the opener at home against Detroit, the season could be done right there. That's a must-win game considering the schedule difficulty. I think the problem has been that it's hard to see games on TV and not critique them, even though they mean next to nothing, and preseason does mean next to nothing.
  2. Not really. He rebounded, but he did not salvage his season. The season still stinks. I said you could argue that he salvaged his season. And it really depends on what your definition of "salvage" is. For a guy to improve his OPS from what it was to over 200 points in less than two months during this time of year is commendable to say the least. Don't forget how bad he was early on.
  3. Aramis Ramirez OPS on: July 5th: .539 August 25th: .753 He'll still finish under his career OPS, but I think you could argue that his season has been salvaged.
  4. Yeah that's a horrible move by Quade. Not to mention Dempster has one of the four hits to this point. Colvin better score.
  5. How much of that lack of productivity/efficiency is actually Cutler's fault? Especially last year. All those QBs you mentioned have MUCH better surrounding players than what Cutler has now and probably what he had in Denver. Marshall is the only offensive player that stands out to me who played with Cutler in Denver.
  6. Come on. Did the media forget it's still preseason? Williams has the LT position locked up, so I doubt they saw his best effort. He was brilliant against Jared Allen last year in Week 16, and I'm still confident that was closer to the real Chris Williams. I'm still very concerned about the line in general, but not really him in particular. I suppose if the media didn't overrate the preseason they wouldn't have as many stories to write.
  7. This system is pretty stacked at catcher. Soto, Castillo, Chirinos, Clevenger, Brenly, who else? No reason Koyie Hill should be in a Cubs uniform in 2011.
  8. Yeah I'm not putting too much thought into these games at all. The main thing I hope for is no injuries, and while we're a bit banged up right now we should have just about everyone back by Week 1 assuming nobody suffers a serious injury between now and then. The run by Forte was amazing though. I knew he was hurt last year, but I don't remember seeing that kind of speed from him in 2008 either. Good to see.
  9. McNutt has to be our #2 prospect by now doesn't he? He has passed Archer in my book, and I'm pretty high on Archer.
  10. Coleman and Diamond should not be anywhere near the rotation next year.
  11. Bottom line is if Cutler goes down, it doesn't really matter who is taking snaps behind center. People say this all the time and it drives me nuts. Yeah if he's lost for the year that's the case. But don't you want someone who can potentially keep you afloat if he's hurt for 2-3 games? Or just to fill in for 2 quarters if he gets knocked out in a game? Perhaps, but this team can't afford to have Cutler miss any games if they want to make the playoffs. And if they don't make the playoffs, they might as well go 2-14. Bears have already said Hanie should be ready to go by Week 1 though, so all of this is probably not even worth discussing. I have a feeling they're just bringing someone in to get a few preseason snaps so LeFevour isn't stuck playing 3 quarters.
  12. But isn't that like saying Ryan Theriot is better than Neifi Perez? Hanie looked completely lost in the few regular season snaps he had last year. He's been okay in preseason, but that's preseason. Bottom line is if Cutler goes down, it doesn't really matter who is taking snaps behind center.
  13. I'm fine with Gutierrez. I'm not the least bit sold on Hanie even as a backup, so just about anyone they bring in is fine with me.
  14. In Martz' defense, Jon Kitna isn't the most mobile QB who ever played. Cutler's mobility should keep the sack totals from getting that out of hand. I'm fine with Omiyale at RT to start out, as the staff seems to have faith that he has yet to reach his ceiling. If he starts to suck though he needs to be pulled for Shaffer, who looked decent last year and apparently is having a good camp. I'm excited to see what Lance Louis can do.
  15. Castro is so good. Took a Matt Cain curveball to the opposite field for a single in his 2nd AB. 2 for 2 thus far.
  16. I love me some 11:35 AM baseball, especially a game I care about. If the Cards get the sweep today I don't see them looking back to be honest.
  17. There is. One is going to lose the division and the other is going to lose the NLDS. Works for me.
  18. I know I'm stating the obvious but Tennessee is completely stacked.
  19. Let's not pretend Alex Brown is that great either. He was good against the run, but obviously this team wanted to go in completely different direction with their DEs. The fact that he's only missed 1 game in his first 8 seasons but has yet to record more than 7 sacks in a single season doesn't exactly scream great pass-rusher. Like I said, he did other things well but he's not irreplaceable. With that said, they should have an open-competition for the other DE spot in the preseason, as Anderson hasn't done much of anything since 2006. I'm fine with the offseason of Peppers/Taylor/Manumaleuna/Harris/Jennings. Our safety depth isn't that bad. I forgot for a moment that we had Al Afalava, who I thought was impressive at times last year.
  20. I admittedly soured on Wells in June, but there is really no reason he can't be a solid #3 starter for us for years to come.
  21. Our young guys (Colvin, Castro, Soto, DeWitt) combined to go 10-20 with 3 homers and 10 RBIs today.
  22. Starlin Castro OPS: .823 Tyler Colvin OPS: .854 Jason Heyward OPS: .835 I know there is more to a player than OPS, but a strong case for ROY can be made for both Castro and Colvin right now.
  23. Parra had DeWitt in an 0-2 hole after making him look stupid on two curveballs. One more probably gets him out of the inning with a 3-2 lead, but instead he throws a splitter and it's 7-3. I love baseball.
  24. Baker should have made a better throw but Dempster walked the pitcher on 4 straight balls. This inning is on him.
