  1. Why? We still wouldn't have taken more LBs on the 53 man if we had Williams. Because he's better than Roach, Iwuh, and Hillenmeyer. I suppose that doesn't really relate to the injuries, but still. Our starting three LBs aren't the most durable guys and it would be nice to have some good depth. He's not better than Roach. He's not better than Hillenmeyer. He's not as good on special teams as Iwuh, which is what you need to be as a 6th LB. Agree to disagree I guess. I don't think Roach or Hillenmeyer are very good.

  3. I'm glad we traded for Chris Harris but all of a sudden it would be really nice to have Jamar Williams.
  4. Would any of them be that much of an upgrade over Brandon Jackson?
  5. Holy crap I forgot how horrible the Berrian call was in 2004. That was easily worse than yesterday IMO. The ball never moved, never hit the ground, and Berrian clearly got two feet down. People need to show that replay to Lions fans since we happened to be playing Detroit. That call likely robbed us of a win even though it was a meaningless game late in the season. The Peterson play was definitely incomplete.
  6. Why is Schwartz' approval rating that high? They were outgained by 300 yards and only stayed in the game because the Bears put the ball on the ground a billion times. Maybe voters liked the goal-line stand, I don't know. Even if CJ holds onto that ball and they win, it wouldn't have been because they played well.
  7. Not trying to be a homer, but the more I watch the replay the more I understand the call. His entire "motion" has to stop before the ball comes out and it clearly did not. I'd still be pissed if I was a Lions fan though just because of the extreme technicality of it.
  8. Studs: -Cutler. Looked very good other than the early pick. It was against a bad defense, but still. Nice mobility as well. -Forte. A force receiving out of the backfield like he was in his rookie year. Was alright on running plays. Fumbles were a problem but he made up for it. -LBs. Urlacher and Briggs were impressive as usual. -Bowman/Peppers. Bowman kept CJ quiet until the end. Peppers had a critical sack although that was it. Goats: -Lovie. Way too conservative on the couple 4th and shorts we had. -O-Line. Looked decent early, but then the protection fell off. Also, you HAVE to open up a hole on 1st and Goal from the 1-foot line. -Knox/Hester. A couple blown routes from Knox which we saw a lot from him last year. Hester meanwhile was nothing special in the return game and was almost non-existant in the passing game. -Olsen. Didn't get many chances but the ones he did get weren't great. Can't fumble inside the 10 like that.
  9. It really comes down to whether the receiver is standing or on the ground. If you're standing/running, you can obviously get rid of the ball right after crossing the goalline. But if it's a catch that involves going to the ground, there becomes a "process" where you have to maintain possession until standing back up. Right? The rule is pretty bogus but it's somewhat clear. That said, I'll gladly take the win. No gaurantee that we don't kick a last second FG anyway. It can be done with 25 seconds left and 3 timeouts.
  10. Both of these teams look pretty bad.
  11. Why are we passing 90% of the time? We got to run on that 1st and 10 on the Detroit 30.
  12. Cutler on pace for 526 yards lol.
  13. Beating the Lions wouldn't be the most impressive thing this team has ever done, but each win in the NFL is so valuable that I'll take it even if we play like crap and win by one point. Just win.
  14. Perhaps he's assuming that Cutler goes down early due to horrible protection. In that case, 3-13 is possible if not likely.
  15. A ranking of 29th is ridiculous. Barring a huge injury, I don't know how people figure we're going to be worse this year than in 08 and 09. In 08 we made almost made the playoffs with a lot worse of a team (on paper anyway) than this one. Last year we finished 7-9 with 2/3 of our starting LBs out, a QB who led the NFL in INTs, and a RB with a bad knee. Yeah the schedule looks pretty tough, but I like to think of it in three categories: Must wins: Lions, Seahawks, Redskins, @Bills, @Lions. I'm going to say they go 4-1 in these games, with the loss coming at home versus Washington. Tough but winnable games: @Giants, @Panthers, @Dolphins, Eagles, Jets. Not buying the Eagles or Giants yet, and since I'm assuming a loss in the five "easy" games, I'm going to say 3-2 here. All around difficult games: @Cowboys, Packers, Vikings, Patriots, @Vikings, @Packers. I'm saying we split with one of Green Bay or Minnesota and get swept by the other, while splitting the games against Dallas and New England. So, 2-4 here. So that's a 9-7 record and flirting with a wild card. Not unreasonable at all.
  16. I guess Iglesias was eligible for the practice squad. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=7037
  17. To get literally nothing out of two 3rd-round picks chosen in the same year is pretty sad. And so far, we haven't gotten anything out of our two 4th-rounders from last year either (Melton, DJ Moore). We did get Knox in the 5th and Lance Louis in the 7th, but it's still about as bad of a draft as you can have. I'm pretty sure none of Gilbert, Iglesias, or Beekman are practice squad eligible. Way to go Angelo. No reason to have both Bell and Wolfe on the team either.
  18. Thursday cannot get here soon enough.
  19. Man, this organization soured on Afalava fast. They were saying during the last preseason broadcast how he showed up to camp overweight which isn't good for any DB, so that might have had something to do with it. Yes, please beat the Lions. If we lose, we have the Cowboys, Packers, Giants, and Panthers following, three of which are road games. We could easily be 0-5.
  20. Yeah Butler would be a disappointing alternative to Dunn.
  21. His WHIP sucks, but it looks like Z still has somewhat of a chance to keep his "ERA under 4" streak alive.
  22. Thank God that's over. Win against Detroit and nobody remembers a thing about this preseason. Most importantly, we should be in pretty good shape health-wise to start the year. Urlacher, Briggs, and Wright are all expected to play in Week 1.
  23. I would imagine the main knock for Fukudome would be the inconsistency at the plate and the lack of power for a corner outfielder. His defense makes up for some of that though.
