  1. I haven't been following the draft very closely but Delino DeShields? Have we time-warped to 1987? :-s
  2. The one bad team we've actually been able to beat this year. This matchup favors the Brewers, however, as they own lefties and Gallardo is good. But I still think we take 2 of 3.
  3. I get the feeling that Miles being atrocious with the Cubs is what the ovation was really about. I find it hard to believe that Aaron Miles could be a fan favorite.
  4. And to make things worse our best SP this year has been bumped to Monday. If someone had told me before the season that Carlos Silva would be our best SP through May I'd have assumed the entire staff was on the DL. At least that trade has been one of the few bright spots for the Cubs this year. What's disappointing about this team right now is that it's the exact same lineup from 2008 only with Byrd in CF instead of Edmonds/Johnson and Castro instead of DeRosa. 2008 is looking more and more like a fluke all the time. Or maybe it's because Aramis looks completely done.
  5. There are plenty of Cubs fans that aren't Hawks fans. The small game thread will have more to do with the fact that so many people have lost interest in the Cubs already this year. It would be interesting though if Z has a September 2008 type of night against the Astros again. Then what would people watch? :D
  6. Three guys who have been horrible this year (Lee, Ramirez, Theriot) are getting the night off, so that doesn't bother me. The order is problematic though as Nady should never hit 3rd. But Baker is pretty much a necessity if you're going to give both Ramirez and Theriot a night off. And while I feel Hill should only get a start in a day game after a night game, I got a feeling this start has something to do with the 7 scoreless innings,11 strikeouts game he called for Silva on Saturday.
  7. What options do we have with this guy? To have a WHIP well over 2 going into June is ridiculous. He has allowed 1 run or more in 6 straight outings, which is beyond a slump for a reliever. There comes a point where you have to make a change regardless of contract, which is why the Cubs need to release this guy and eat the money. It should be the corresponding move for Cashner, but we all know it won't be. With Marshall and Russell performing well though you have to wonder how much time Grabow has left to right the ship.
  8. Did Mike Judge draw that picture of Wells? He looks like Butt-Head.

  10. Baker is 1 for 22 against RHP this year. :-&
  11. I agree completely. My argument was largely in response to the poster who said they'd strongly consider Castro for Oswalt straight-up. I don't think I'd do a Cashner for Oswalt straight up either, but I'd probably part with anyone else in the Cubs' farm.
  12. False hope. :( That said, if we find some way to pull out a victory in Game 6, I'm not that worried about Game 7.
  13. When a pitcher has an ERA that increases for FOUR straight seasons, he is obviously not being as effective in some capacity. Most likely it is because more homers allowed = more runs allowed. It cannot be a complete coincidence. He is still a good pitcher, but my point was that he's old and should not be traded for one of our top prospects. Whether there is proof that he is declinding or not, just the fact that he is 32 years old is enough to justify not making the trade IMO.
  14. Stop pretending like ERA doesn't matter. If we're examining four seasons of stats, it's a valid way of arguing a pitcher's decline. no it's not. pretty much every other stat has been pretty consistent over that period. Like what, WHIP? WHIP doesn't always tell the whole story either (Example: If you allow a line drive triple off the wall it counts the same as an infield single). His homers allowed have increased the past two seasons, and he is obviously not stranding as many runners on base. Both of those things matter.
  15. I'd settle for a 3-3 homestand considering the opponents, but 4-2 would be nice.
  16. His move at the end of Game 2 was ridiculous, but other than that he's had a solid year. 10 PPG off the bench, 40% from 3PT, improved defense, and automatic from the FT line as always. Carter meanwhile has been disappointing the entire season, not to mention incredibly inconsistent. While Carter is overall a better player than Turkoglu, the latter always seemed to show up when it counted.
  17. This is obviously a joke. It's amazing how bad he's been. Redick should start Game 5.
  18. Stop pretending like ERA doesn't matter. If we're examining four seasons of stats, it's a valid way of arguing a pitcher's decline. At least I didn't mention Ws and Ls. There's a difference between recognizing what it can show and tossing it out there like his increasing ERA is indicative of a steady decline since 2006, which clearly isn't the case when one doesn't limit that conclusion to being based on his ERA. So you're saying his ERA increasing from 05 to 09 is a complete coincidence? His HR totals have been career highs each of the last two seasons as well. 23 in 2008 and 19 in an injury-shortened 2009. Whether there is evidence he is declining or not, my position still stands. Don't trade away good prospects for a player over 30 that will not put this team over the top.
  19. And technically it's decreased every year since 2005. I don't know how anyone could look at Oswalt and argue that he's still in his prime.
  20. Stop pretending like ERA doesn't matter. If we're examining four seasons of stats, it's a valid way of arguing a pitcher's decline. At least I didn't mention Ws and Ls.
  21. Would you trade Castro for Oswalt straight up? At this point I wouldn't trade Castro for anyone not named Pujols, H. Ramirez, Howard, Lincecum, or Halladay. There are probably a few more, but Oswalt isn't one of them.
  22. Really? He's a 32 year old who's having one of the best seasons of his career. Plus, he's only under contract through 2011 (with a 2012 $16m option/$2m buyout). I know he wants to be traded to a contender, which likely rules the Cubs out, but if Hendry has an opportunity to get Oswalt in a fair deal, he should take it. Heck, I don't think anyone in the system should be off-limits in a trade for Oswalt. His ERA has increased every year since 2006 and he seems to be becoming injury prone with age. He is still a good pitcher, but my point was not to trade away prospects for him because he doesn't make us a contender. And because starting pitching is not where we need help. Of course if we could get him for cheap then do it, but he won't come cheap.
