  1. Why does it seem like every year, we all talk about how we'll be better once we get rid of (fill in the blank) Sosa, Farnesworth, Patterson, Wood and now Prior?
  2. Do you have any proof to back that up? One could just as easily say that Maddux keeps Wood and Prior injured - these shenanigans began in 2004, when the Cubs signed him, after all. No, that's Rothschild who keeps getting our pitchers hurt. There was even talk on here the other day that Maddux thinks good ol' Larry is a joke.
  3. Does anyone think this will be motivate KW to consider moving to the bullpen? Think about it. Wouldn't it be in his best interest to come back in the second half of the year and prove that he has what it takes to close. The Cubs might be inclined to re-negoitate his deal or he'd be more marketable. As it is, how much do you think he'd get after the Cubs release him? I think he has what it takes to be a (and possibly THE) dominant closer in the game. Let's hope he talks with Smoltz, Eck or Gagne, and they can talks some sense into him.
  4. And to think that just 2 short years ago, Wood and Prior were considered the best young 1-2 combo in the game. Now our $10 million man can't make it to the fifth inning and the so-called "best college pitcher ever" is giving up 3-run HRs to AA players. I can't think of this getting any worse, can you?
  5. What a shocker! As reported by Bruce Levine on ESPN. Shoulder stiffness for Wood (which leaves Cubs nation stiff and numb).
  6. After the first he was lights out I said. 4IP, 1H, 0R Didn't mean to flame on you personally.
  7. Amazing to think that a team with such a weak pitching staff could be in first place after 8 Ws in a row, and our under-performing bunch, despite all the hype, toils in fifth.
  8. Hey at least the one-year wonder Garland is getting rocked again tonight.
  9. I even am starting to dislike who isn't on this team right now (ie Prior).
  10. IMO this outing was very encouraging. After the first he was lights out mostly, and he was sitting at 90-92 consistently. Maybe I'm tired of having such low expectations. You would think we wouldn't have to say that a 3-run performance in 5 innings was lights out for Prior. I really had hoped that the Cubs would finally have a dominant pitching staff with Prior, Wood and Z, but that sure doesn't look like it's going to happen. At least Wood had shoulder surgury. Prior's injury is still a mystery to me.
  11. I don't know why I bother with this team anymore. Not only do we have to suffer through the hitless wonders who can only manage to put up one lousy run against the Reds, but you'd think I could at least see that Prior, who just two short years ago was hailed as the best young pitcher in the game, would be dominating a AA roster. Instead, he gives up a 3-run HR. Sorry for venting, but this team is just too much.
  12. Way to waste an excellent pitching performance by Marshall today.
  13. Wood better start playing for a contract because at this rate the Cubs will cash out and he could be left with the most incentive-ladden contract we've seen in quite some time. That error in the second was a joke, an absolute rookie mistake. When is he going to learn?
  14. Kind of reminds me of the Bears draft this year. I had to dig deep to find info on Daniel Manning after getting over the shock of the pick.
  15. Great win tonight Cubs! Let's make it 4 out of 5 tomorrow night. Come on Woody...
  16. I agree 100%. And you would have lost Z for awhile mentally if you would have pulled him. Look at the great Ozzie. His pitchers fight for him because he lets them take care of their business. You do the same with Z.
  17. You don't actually think we should have taken him out, do you? It would have taken 10 guys to pull Z off that mound tonight. Great performance by the big Z!
  18. Man, I wish Z got credit for the 4 RBI on my fantasy team tonight! What a game!
  19. What is really surprising is how C-Pat is leading the majors in SBs. We never fully exploited that talent on the Cubs. The last two years, I thought it was strange how his SBs would come in bunches for the Cubs. It was like Dusty would forget to give him the steal sign for a few weeks and then he'd have 4-5 steals over a few game stretch. Another example of the fine mis-management of Cubs players.
  20. So right before I head into the theatre to catch MI3, Rolen knocks in two runs to give the Cards the lead, and I'm thinking we blew another one. Only to be surprised to hear Andy Maser's voice when I turn the car back on. And to think that JP actually hit a double and later scored to give us the W. Now, that's a way to start a weekend! What do you say we sweep another series from the Birds?
  21. I'm planning a trip out to Des Moines this summer with my two young kids to catch a couple of Iowa Cubs games. For those who have been there, I'm looking for ideas of what to do in Des Moines when we aren't at the games? Any fun activities for the kids? Good places to eat? Any ideas would be appreciated.
  22. After reading the article, it seemed like Sullivan was trying to make it an issue. Z didn't say anything to indicate that he was mad at Dusty. It was the right decision since he was already over 100 pitches and he had just come off his worst inning of the night.
  23. Wow, I just read more positive comments about JJ on the last page as I've seen on the site in three months....how refreshing.
  24. Looks like a decent trade, but I wish it had happened 3 weeks ago. Hairston did nothing memorable in his time here. Maybe Nevin can give us some pop in the lineup until MV-Lee returns.
