  1. Anyone know where I can find pitcher run support stats? I've got to believe that Jon Garland is the luckiest pitcher in the game. I've never seen a pitcher go 15-4 with a 4.60+ ERA and .294 BAA.
  2. Well I see it hasn't taken Dusty long to find his new Neifi...Theriot didn't make it one full game before he was replaced by Bynum.
  3. Today is a great day to be a Cubs fan! And to think I saw him actually get on base twice yesterday (I knew something in the world was amiss when that happened and now I know why)
  4. Hey, this rookie pitcher thing is starting to work! Is there anyone else we can bring up? Way to go Cubs! We may still suck, but it's always nice to sweep a rival fighting for a Wild Card berth!
  5. I know.....Dusty is trying to have Z throw his arm off so that he can start 5 rookie pitchers.....and then no one can say he doesn't play young guys!
  6. But how many speedsters/leadoff guys have cannons for arms?
  7. I missed the game (fortunately) but learned everything I needed to know after seeing our best hitter tonight taken out in the sixth inning for a double switch....D'oh!
  8. Yeah, that was such a great memory. Actually, by far the worst sports memory of my life. Won't truly get over it until we win it all.
  9. Well he won't pitch on Saturday. Could be a Rusch outing... Rusch just started playing catch and is still on the DL so we can forget about him for a while. That's the best news I've heard in a while from this team
  10. Is it all the organization's fault? YOu can definitely make a case for it or did you forget how bad he was abused in 2003? Crazy pitch counts and letting him go out there and pitch when he hurt his arm running the basepaths? Yeah, you can make a case. How's Kerry Wood doing these days? Funny though how Ozzie has 4 of the top 12 used pitchers in the AL, yet no one is blaiming him or the organization for over use.
  11. From the Chicago Tribune, August 12: "The Chicago Cubs announced that Mark Prior was put on the 15-day DL due to an unknown ailment. Dusty Baker wishing predicted 'Just wait until I get all my guys back, man, we're gonna be all right.'"
  12. Pathetic.... that our 4 and 5 hitters can't even make contact with the baseball that our multiple Cy-Young-winner-in-waiting is either a injured and/or mental wasteland right now. My only joy as a Cubs fan right now is seeing our young pitchers develop. The rest is a big pile of steaming dung...
  13. Earlier this year, I criticized Z on this board for failing to step up and truly become an elite pitcher. After sitting at Wrigley today and watching him beat the Cards without nearly his best stuff really showed me (along with his 12-3 record) that he's taken his game to the next level. So, he's untouchable now. (So are D-Lee and A-Ram IMO)
  14. I wouldn't bet on it. How many players in the Hendry era have received 5 year contracts (or longer)? He was willing to go five years to get Furcal. Luckily the Dodgers saved us on that one. Furcal would have been a huge upgrade over Cedeno. There is absolutely NO WAY that Furcal is worth the $13M the Dodgers are paying him. The only substantial upside to him versus Cedeno is the additional 20 stolen bases. Plus Furcal has a bad glove. Even with Cedeno's inexperience, he has less errors than Furcal (16 vs. 20). So his ability to get on base frequently is of no value? I would take a .346 OBP out of the SS position any day of the week. Nobody said he was worth the $13M he is getting paid, but he would have been a lot better option over Cedeno. Quite franklyI don't understand why anyone would be so concerned over the payroll, when Hendry had more money to spend this year, he just chose not to spend it. Would you rather have $10-15 M going to the Tribune company's pocketbook or a Major League SS? To me its a no brainer. You also have to consider the impact on the Furcal deal on future deals. Would A-Ram or D-Lee want to renegotiate? What about Z? Would it prevent us from signing C-Lee or Zito this off-season? Sure, there's no question Furcal is better (right now) than Cedeno, but you have to consider the big picture and future as well.
  15. I agree to a point, but who becomes the big bopper on the Brew Crew now? Every lineup needs 1-2 guys to produce the big numbers, and the Brewers just got rid of their guy. I'd be ticked if I was a Brewers fan that the team couldn't work a deal to get Lee signed long term.

  17. http://www.espn.com The Brewers are trading slugger Carlos Lee to the Rangers as part of a multi-player deal, ESPN's Keith Law has learned. The Brewers are sending Lee, Nelson Cruz and a player to be named to Texas for reliever Francisco Cordero and outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix. Both teams are working on the medicials. Boy, this one came out of nowhere. This might help the Rangers win the division, but they aren't a serious contender for the World Series. My hope is that this will make it easier for us to sign C-Lee in the offseason!
  18. I wonder how much of the decision was based on the lack of available candidate? I wasn't in favor of simply firing Dustry just to fire him and replacing him with a warm body who had no chance of succeeding. Maybe Lou, Brenley or others declined to take over mid-season??? Hey, it's not like a new manager would be a savior right now with Wood out for the year, D-Lee back on the DL and Prior's mental instability.
  19. I'm puzzled by people's interest in trading A-Ram? I realize he's had a bad year, but until he arrived we all lamented how we hadn't had an all-star caliber 3B since Santo. Now we want to run him out of town? If anything, he's proven that he can't be the man in our lineup, but I sure like the idea of A-Ram, D-Lee and hopefully C-Lee next season. On Pierre...I'd like to see how he finishes out the season, because here again, we've waited a long time for a true lead-off hitter with speed, and at least he has the speed part figured out. Where do we turn if we trade or fail to resign him? Pie isn't ready and his speed isn't exactly doing much for him at Iowa.
  20. Funny how last night our ace is uncharacteristically giving up a lot of runs, but we score enough to win. Today, our pitcher has shut down the Mets, yet we can't seem to score. Someone smarter about baseball needs to tell me why this seems to happen. Just look at Clemens and his lack of run support for the second year in a row as further proof.
  21. Just wondering how a pitcher can come into the league as a physical beast and great poise the way Prior did, and now, with little to no pressure, he has turned into a mental case who can't find the plate?
  22. We have enough holes already. Why move one of the best offensive catchers in the game? I realize his game calling and defense aren't stellar, but this team needs consistent bats.
  23. :-s Sorry bout that.
