  1. That's great news! Now, let's get the 5 year, $90M deal done...
  2. Have faith....Hendry has a pretty good track record of getting deals done with his key players. He signed both D-Lee and A-Ram to good deals and landed Soriano as well.
  3. Z IMO still has to prove that he's one of the top 5 pitchers in the game before I pay him like one. We all know what happens when he lets his emotions get the better of him.
  4. Sure hope this doesn't negatively impact negotiating the long-term deal. I was encouraged by what Z has said during the past few days.
  5. Heck, I'm even in the advertising industry, and I don't like this move at all, but it is a necessary evil in today's marketplace. Heck, they needed something to pay for the $300 shopping spree. So far, the Cubs have adding subtle advertising in the ballpark---I just hope the best stadium in America doesn't become another shouting billboard like that dump on the Southside.
  6. Really wish we could have gotten a deal done with Lofton. Having another 30 SB guy in the lineup would have been nice.
  7. That's the first positive statement I've heard about Prior is quite some time. Everyone has written him off, but what if he bounces back and regains his dominant form? Then we have two ace pitchers, Lilly in his rightful #3 spot, Hill at four and Miller/Marshall/Marquis battling it out for the last spot. Sure, we can't count on Prior right now, but I can see it happening.
  8. What healthy pitcher will sign for less than 3 years these days? I hope we aren't done and that a trade for a better #2 option is still availabe (ie Brad Penny) but my fear is that it's not. And Lilly, Marquis and Cotts aren't exactly what I had in mind for strengthening our pitching staff. Sori OTOH I'm counting down the days before we can see him in Cubs pinstripes.
  9. I'd be happy with that...especially if we could sign Lugo as well.
  10. I think we can all agree that the numbers are too high, but we can finally put the story to bed about the Cubs not adequetely investing in the team. Hendry's signing of arguably the two top FAs on the market signals a distinct change for the Cubs. Maybe they are freewheeling at the cash register because the team WILL be sold soon? (We can only hope!)
  11. I'm much more worried about his sucking at the age of 31 relative to that deal. Maybe he will. But on the other hand, maybe this is a sign that he's learned his lesson relative to guys that seem to have an injury bug following them around re: JD Drew. Soriano and Drew were the two guys that gave us the best chance to win now, and getting one of them would be a great accomplishment. So you throw over a hundred million at a guy who's already 30 and has had exactly one great season? All I see is a player who has never shown an ability to get on base at a good rate, can't play defense, and played out of his mind SLG wise for one season. How is that more dependable than JD Drew, who will be cheaper for fewer years, much more consistent, and better defensively? Hendry just hasn't shown an ability to understand why OBP is important. I don't understand all the love for JD Drew, who can't seem to stay healthy. We'll invest $13M in a guy who will miss 30-40 games next season.
  12. Soriano is not very good. He wasn't going to be even close to the contract he was projected to get, and this 8/135 rumor is Hamptonian. It's like giving Mark DeRosa 5/60. Please, what does a guy have to do to be good in your eyes...46 HRs (in a tough ballpark to hit in), 41 SB, 119 runs, 95 RBIs, oh and 22 outfield assists. Plus, he's the first player in HISTORY with a 40-40-40 season. Not good?
  13. Manny....Manny....Manny! (please)
  14. We THINK we have an above average LF. Hey, I love Murt as much as the next guy, but C Lee approached 3X the HR and 2X the RBI of Murton this past season. If we add a big bat in Soriano or JD then I agree to leave Murton in LF, but until then I upgrade my power numbers wherever I can get them. What about platooning Murt and JJ in RF?
  15. Yeah, it would suck to add another 30 HR 100 RBI hitter in our lineup...
  16. Well, since I wasn't talking about players acquired via trade ( He's been living off the ARam and Lee fumes for quite a while), I didn't see the point of including it. I was talking about players he signed. And yes the past is the past. And it's also the only thing I have to go by in judging Hendry. So until Hendry shows something, I won't expect a whole lot. Those are pretty good moves to be living off of, aren't they? He got two all-stars and one MVP-caliber player for what amounted to a whole pile of nothing. If we're going to bash Hendry, let's at least bring up his strong moves as well.
  17. Someone please help me with this one....how can Felix Pie not be playing when this team is so absolutely horrible? I would much rather see our top prospect as I would some of the no-names who now are playing at Wrigley.
  18. Can we cut Dempster loose right now. At least it would make us feel better. This guy is worse than Rusch right now... At least the Sox lost tonight!
  19. Wow, just when you don't think there's another way the Cubs and Dempster can blow a game, you have tonight's ballgame. Mix one infield single with two walks and two wild pitches and you have LAST PLACE! Woo frickin Ronnie Woo Woo...
  20. Boy, Just when I think the Cubs can't possibly sink any lower, we have today's game where our ace can't find the strike zone and our best hitter grounds into a taylor-made DP against the flippin Pirates! Can't they just cancel the rest of the season?
  21. I thought this franchise had hit rock bottom last night, until now....Wow, blowing leads two days in a row and getting swept by the Pirates is just too much to think about. Thank God it's fantasy football season! I'm officially revoking my Cubs fan status until they can actually put some semblance of a baseball team on the field.
  22. He had the GIDP to get out of the game unscathed, but Cedeno/Bynum couldn't even get one. I doubt anyone would be throwing regular season games at this point anyways, but there's no proof for that. Why would Cedeno/Bynum/Dempster want to throw games? That makes no sense. It was meant to be tounge in cheek, but Demp has been absolutely brutal lately. When's the last time he actually had a 1-2-3 inning? And tonight was against the Pirates to boot!
  23. Dempster is pitching so bad lately, I really have to start wondering if he is throwing these games on purpose. That, or he's hurt. You can't go from being a pretty solid closer to blowing chunks against the Pirates without something being amiss.
  24. What? Maybe we replace someone in the starting rotation?
  25. We truly have hit rock bottom tonight. We have are supposed Cy-Young contender on the mound, who can't even protect a 4-0 lead against the second worst team in baseball. We fight back to get the lead twice, only to blow it. Amazing. Frankly, I don't care if this team wins another game this season. It's Bears season!
