  1. I suppose this link goes under the category of "proves he grills the Right," but it also goes under "does NOT baby his guests" :) http://youtube.com/watch?v=9We547WGSdk
  2. If Aramis looks like he might be out for a few days, I'd imagine they'll bring Moore up from AAA, so I'm not too concerned with the lack of middle infielders. At any rate, I'm just happy we don't have 8 second basemen on the roster (yet) 8 starting pitchers maybe but at least that could actually help. hehe, yeah. No one's ever said "you can never have too much middle infield."
  3. But the reason he and Boras are balking at Boston's (possible) out-clause is probably becuase they don't like his chances to play well enough this season that he would be an attractive 2008 FA.
  4. was this the padres minor league pitcher who was once in a commercial (for what, I don't know), because he could throw so hard?
  5. If we get Jones in that deal, than the answer is "yes". :) ideally, we could lose a Jones, too.
  6. I've never heard someone say such a thing. :)
  7. I wish him the very best of luck with his potentially serious medical issues, but in a baseball sense, he really can't be on the roster anymore.
  8. Can you trade for a guy who was just tendered? Wilkerson might be available on the relative cheap. Would you do one of Marshall / Marmol / Mateo straight-up for Wilk? Wilkerson is a FA now. He can be signed by any team. You don't have to trade to get him now. Hopefully Hendry is looking into signing him. If he's healthy coming off of shoulder surgery, he could be a great addition to this team. Tendered means he's not a FA. Players that were non-tendered are FA's......right? Oops. Guess I should have read the quote better. Thought he said non-tendered. Yes, tendered means they gave him a contract, so he's not a FA. We would have to trade for him. I'd say he's not worth it then. At least not as a Plan A. (Andruw Jones) (Aaron Rowand) Ryan Church Brady Clark Brad Wilkerson Steve Finley Darin Erstad Bernie Williams Those in parentheses are especially long-shots, but top the list anyway. Did I forget anybody?
  9. I completely agree. Boras is an idiot for thinking a non-FA who has never pitched in the MLB should get $15 million. $8 million is more than fair considering the circumstances. Boras isn't an idiot yet. He will be if he lets that offer get in the way of signing his client to the Sox. Heck, if he does get Boston to agree to the 15-per deal, he's a genius, right, (even if a smarmy one)?
  10. Yeah, I touched on this and then touched off a few pages of debate on another thread, the one that speculated on Hendry having to step down. I'm in the minority around here who thinks Gary Hughes is a darn fine baseball man and evaluator of talent. I might be a little biased because I know him and have talked a lot of baseball with him. He's got a pretty cool World Series ring from helping the Marlins procure some good players. But he didn't know what "DIPS" meant, and that made him an idiot to a lot of people. I believe it was in that same thread that someone linked the "chat article" with the infamous DIPS comments. Other than the DIPS comments, nothing in there was that discouraging to me. It wouldn't make me excited for him to be the GM, I just thought peoples preconceived feelings for Hughes contributed to their reaction to that article.
  11. I agree on all but one: Marquis should go under "Bad money/years but Meh" signings.
  12. I'm disappointed by the gradual turn to logic that this thread is taking. Marquis sucks; Marshall sucks; other people we have suck; people we didn't sign woulda been great. <--- If I could make a smilie bold, I woulda.
  13. well, kinda, but not really in this case. We have more than the 40-man/25-man roster can hold -- in a way that jeopardizes their spot on the team. Ideally, a scenario of having "too many SPs" would feature mostly first or second year players, not mid-career, oft-injured vets.
  14. I hate to say it, but . . . mad props to Larussa. That is absolutely ridiculous, but I gotta hand it to him, he's not as straight-laced and up tight as his reputation indicates. i can't believe that's not a photoshop!
  15. " I haven't heard that claim from anyone. Many have said we're still just a .500 team, but that's as pessimistic as I've seen. We're better, if nothing else; if absolutely nothing else, we're not as bad as 2006.
  16. wasn't newhan once highly regarded? i take it by your context that he no longer is (?) He's 33. Last year he had a line of .252/.294/.374 in 131 AB. The year before he had a line of .202/.279/.312 in 218 AB. :P I'm thinkin of someone else

  18. say hello to me little friend: ? :)
  19. Actually, I don't think that's a very optimistic blurb. We are: "previously mentioned" and "in connection"

  21. I know it's a serious situation, but anyone else stifle a laugh at the image of Lou driving him to the hospital . . . it almost seems alegoric.
  22. yikes, thoughts are with him
  23. That's all the Red Sox want? We could do better than that. Jacque, Eyre and Player That's not better at all. JJ Putz was a great closer for the M's this year. Jacque is an average 31 year old OF and Eyre is a slightly above average middle reliever. That player you're tossing in there would have to be named Pie or Veal. Pie or Veal eh? I'd do it in a heartbeat to get 300/400/550 out of LF. If we get Manny, Pie is close to expandable with a new OF of Murton-Soriano-Manny. Veal (and Gallegher) are guys I hear a lot about -- all outstanding stuff -- but I have no opinion. How far away are they to ML-ready, and do they both project as eventual starters?
