They have an equal or lesser chance to succeed without these two? There are many reasons to be frustrated with this deal, but the overall quality of next year's team is certainly improved. (Granted, the money spent on Soriano may be prohibitive to improving next year's pitching staff, but come on, Buster -- there's no reason to assume that yet, as no FA starter has signed with ANYONE, much less reject a low Cubs bid).
