  1. 95 RBIs are good from any spot in the lineup There's no such thing. IF the Cubs have good 7&8 hitters Soriano will get plenty of chances to score runs. More extra base hits means less need to risk stealing bases. It also means less inclination to have #2 hitter bunt.
  2. Jacks pizza Where else can you get 9000% of your recomended daily intake of Sodium in one place?
  3. Name one player who had a better offensive career in chicago than sammy. 156 was Banks's best OPS+ total, in 1958. He OPS'd .980 that year and hit 47 dingers. Sammy's OPS+ from 1998-2002 read: 160 141 169 201 (!) 160 The numbers point in Roast's favor here. He did that while playing SS. He also did it at a time when 30 HRs was considered a very good season. That has to count for something. Maybe Sosa is mad because Ernie Banks never shook his hand.
  4. Doparik could be claimed in the minor league phase of the rule 5 and almost certainly would be as there's no risk putting him at AA since that's where the Cubs would send him.
  5. Are they, by any chance, conjoined twins?
  6. Razor Shines is an awesome name
  7. Casey McGehee moving up the charts. Would somebody draft him and hide him on the bench? Usually teams don't bother with a player of his upside but he could be a decent-good corner utility guy for a MLB team. Of the drop list, it seems like the Cubs would protect Harben.
  8. On the flip side, they also avoided some high profile flops like Chan Ho Park.
  9. No Scmidt and no Zito doesn't surprise me at all. Scmidt has pretty much said he wants to stay on the West Coast all along. Zito will get paid way more than he's worth. The Cardinals have proved the last few years that a good lineup can carry a mediocre starting rotation. Get rid of Izturis and sign Lugo and Drew and the lineup is pretty good: SS Lugo LF Murton 1st Lee CF Drew 3rd Ramirez RF Jones (would like to upgrade here of course) C Barrett 2nd Derosa/ Theriot/ Cedeno Upgrade RF and that lineup can be a division winner.
  10. Maybe they see him as a supersub but they paid him as a starting 2nd baseman. The only way he's not the main starter at 2nd is if Soriano will only sign if he can play 2nd base.
  11. Somewhere Dennis Gentry and Mike Ditka are relishing the 3rd and 22 draw play. Mike Ditka returns from the kitchen "What happened?" Dennis Gentry "Remember that 3rd and forever draw play that you called every single time it was 3rd down and everyone in the stadium knew was coming and never gained more than 3 yards?" Ditka "Yeah" Gentry "It actually worked" Ditka "See? I told you it had to work eventually"
  12. I'd bet that this is part of a deal where Biggio retires after this season. This is good for PR- not having to release a HOFer. For what he actually will produce he is overpaid. However, in the Pantheon of overpaid players there are many many players that earned more for doing less.
  13. Looking at the stats that HOF voters acknowledge, he doesn't get in because he didn't have 500 HRs, didn't win the WS and didn't hit .300. Sure, those stats are pretty meaningless but we are talking about guys that think Ozzie Smith is a HOFer.
  14. Good. Hopefully this will start a trend of the Cards bringing back all of their over the hill and over achieving players.
  15. I believe I read that in "Wheres Harry," and they said the Bud cup was always just full of water. That makes me like Harry Caray even less- which is pretty hard to do.
  16. The Cub
  17. What if you could trade off someone else that was overpaid- like Dempster- for Figgins? That would save the Cubs ~2 million and fill a hole. Under those circumstances Figgins probably has a better chance to help the team, especially considering the alternative which is continue to pay Dempster $5 million and still have to pay someone else $2-3 million to play 2nd base.
  18. How long ago did they move McGehee from C? I seem to remember him there when he was at Daytona. I'd like to see if how well he and Moore can play OF. But if either of those guys could handle 2nd base defensively they'd be much more interesting as prospects. Will Fox start the year at AA?
  19. Both of these guys are doing well in winter ball. One of them will have to change positions if they are both at Iowa to start next season. Who goes where? Were it not for Patterson, I could see one of them switching to 2nd base. Anyone have any ideas?
  20. The Cubs have very little insurance at the ss position. I doubt they would trade Cesar; unless he is included in a Tejeda deal. They have Cedeno who is cheaper and probably equally productive. They Have Theriot who can also play SS. There are FA options available and virtually all of them are better than Izturis. In other words, I disagree that they can't trade Izturis in a deal that doesn't net a SS. The need to send back a SS is more of an issue for in season trades then off season. Using your example, if the O's trade Tejada they will probably move Roberts to SS or have some other plan in the works.
  21. What about Izturis and Eyre for Heilman? If the Cubs do get him, I will nickname him Old Style and will refuse to call him anything else. Unless he's really bad in which case he will be called Special Export.
  22. Tigers get Jones, Izturis, Gallagher, Patterson Cubs get Bonderman This gives Detroit: 1 the LH bat they've wanted/ needed this season who incidentally is familiar with the division and has a history of performing well against their biggest rival. 2 An "All-Star" caliber SS (LOL) so they can move Guillen to first permanently 3 Gallagher to replace Bonderman 4 Patterson a nice prospect
  23. Maybe Beerhere had a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. In the beginning, God created the universe. This is widely regarded as a bad move. Change universe to Cubs and this thread has come full circle.
