  1. Maybe this is just a perception thing but WR don't usually get the really big contracts. Sure there are guys like Owens and Ocho Cinco that get the big money but for every one of them there are 5 guys that are making a lot less.
  2. The only thing that can stop the Chargers is Marty Shottenheimer. It will be interesting to see exactly how he screws things up.
  3. It seems like the Cubs like to send their American born players to the Mexican league. I think the preference has more to do with the coaches than anything else. They want players on teams where they aren't going to get overused in an attempt to win the league. This happened with Zambrano back in 2000(?)
  4. If only he were the Ultimate Fighting Champion
  5. The difference being that Cedeno has had some MLB experience and success. Izturis' hitting was terrible nearly his entire major league career, except for one half-season, where pitchers never saw enough of him to expose his crippling weaknesses at the plate. Once they did, he tanked as always has. He has little if any chance to improve, IMO
  6. I once put 10 packs of Smarties in my mouth. Top that!
  7. I guess the difference is that we know that Izturis will be horrible offensively and good defensively. Cedeno at least has the chance to improve, particularly under a new coaching staff. Izturis might be inserted into the #2 spot- with very likely bad results. Cedeno, if he were to start, would be relegated to the 8th spot.
  8. Replacing cedeno with Izturis is at best a lateral move.
  9. It would be nice to see the Bears make a statement this week. I'd like very much to see some sort of acknowledgement of what happened last year (coasting the last couple games then going 1 and done) and how committed they are to not letting that happen again. Besides, the Lions are just dumb enough to win this game.
  10. sports bars take care of this problem. I have yet to find a good bar with Sunday Ticket in NH. That and the fact that I'd feel guilty ditching my family on XMas eve to go drinking and watch football ;) Bring them with. "Can we open our opresents now?" "You know the tradition son, not until halftime."
  11. You got the proof for that one? actually, he was accused of beating his wife with a bat when she refused to grant him a divorce, but the charges were later dismissed. Was that before he assassinated Franz Ferdinand or before he burned down that orphanage?
  12. So if you round that up to 3 and factor in an improvement by Theriot then yes, 3-4 wins difference Is .1 the lowest possible WARP1?
  13. One of the added benefits of bringing in Soriano is it allows the Cubs to permanently scrap the idea of doing the same thing to Pie ie. shoe horning him into the leadoff role.
  14. Last year he got the chance to play on a bad AAA team thus preparing him to start for the 2007 Cubs
  15. Doesn't Festivus start December 17th? Or have we always started early to give more time for the airing of Grievances. Also, who's in charge of going to Naperville and wrestling Tim to the ground?
  16. Does it belong in social or should we go ahead and put it in rants owing to the airing of grievances?
  17. If Hendry really did have an offer for Jones that he liked he'd already be gone. By waiting he can probably get a better offer as teams get more desparate. But that has little to do with signing another CFer first. The Cubs have in house options at CF even without Jones. None are ideal but they are serviceable. So there shouldn't be any desparation on the Cubs part. In fact, Hendry has already hinted that Pie could be the starter in CF.
  18. You forgot to mention that he's not very good defensively.
  19. Sponsored by Red Bull?
  20. Good point, I wonder if that's why we haven't seen much on the Jones front, because he's been waiting to acquire another OF first so as not to trade from weakness. But if he trades Jones doesn't that create a weakness? The Cubs can always trade Jones during ST. Better to get the CF first and then figure out what to do with Jones. They could always psoture a Murton/ Jones Platoon or perhaps someone blows them away with a trade for Murton and they keep Jones.
  21. Montanez signed w/ the Orioles org as a minor league FA. Sing left too if memory serves. Now that the Cubs are committed to Soraino at lead off for the forseeable future, do they finally move Pie to the middle of the order where he's always belonged? If you had to guess who has a better chance at the opening day 25 man roster who has a better chance, Pie or Patterson?
  22. It's not a question of better but how much better. In order to be meaningful the 2007 team will have to be 25 games better. The bolded parts could probably be = instead of >
  23. The Blue Jays haven't won anything in 10 years. They play in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox. The Cubs still have a lot of questions to answer before they can really be called contenders. I'm guessing the Cubs offer was significantly less than what he'll get from KC. By taking KC's money he is set for life and has the chance to be traded to a contender if he pitches well.
  24. Given all the public admiration for Murton from Hendry, I can't see the value in platooning him with Trot Nixon. Is Nixon really much better than pagan? Neither seem likely to be more productive than Murton.
