  1. You mean the Rock em Sock em Robots tournament is cancelled?!? :wall: How about this: The Lions and the Raiders play 7 on 7 flag football. Winner gets the #1 draft pick.
  2. Maybe it's just me but I don't really mind the Red Pirates Jerseys. To me there no worse than any other alternate Jersey. I hate alternate jerseys. I'm a little surprised that there are still teams that don't have a black alternate jersey.
  3. I was in a sporting goods store here and by some odd circumstance they had Cubs t-shirts on sale. I walked up with 2 Cubs shirts and 2 Illinois Basketball shirts. The guy asked me if I was a Cubs fan. #-o Ironically, I was hoping he'd ask if I was a Bears fan because they don't sell any Bears stuff around here.
  4. This just isn't true. A single hole? Maybe. Over eighteen holes? Highly unlikely. Over a tournament? Never. I'm saying that as unlikely as it is, it's far more likely for the "cinderella story" to happen in professional golf than it is in professional tennis. And besides, in golf, nobody can make you lose. In my mind, that automatically puts it below any sport where you have a direct opponent, like tennis, in terms of difficulty. Two questions: What do you mean by "The man on the street"? and Have you ever played golf? If by man on the street you mean a scratch golfer then I'd concede that it was possible.
  5. I heard on the radio that the Sox have an out clause if Drew is perpetually injured. I've also heard that the Rockies are saying the Helton talks are off- presumably because the Sox wanted to give them Lowell and Tavarez and the Rockies wanted good players instead.
  6. I'm going with Jason Marquis d' sad which is funny now but won't be one zillion times from now.
  7. I only opened this thread to see your avatar
  8. I fear the exact opposite. I wonder if the Bears aren't too predictable. The Superbowl is the sort of game where you pull out all the stops. Like having your ace starter come in to close a game in the WS. FWIW. Isn't catching a punt considered one of the hardest things to do in football?
  9. If you were on the Bears coaching staff, would you try to work him into the offensive game plan for the Superbowl?
  10. I thought they said "Lock the Cat Box"? I thought it was Rock the Kasbah. I'm old.
  11. Hurray for medicority! We're almost average!
  12. Good showing by Mcgehee. It seems like he wore down toward the end.
  13. If you need a lightbulb, do you wait until they go on sale or do you buy a lightbulb? Are you willing to wait until someone throws away a lightbulb that might work? Jacques Jones' value is the same now as it was at the end of last season. If a team wants him they'll pursue him. His value is determined by the number of teams that want him, not by what the Cubs think of him.

  15. I'd be very happy for a couple hours and then things would be pretty much the same as they were before.
  16. Players-since they are human beings- would see that as a paycut. Nobody likes a paycut. It might make sense for athletes to make less as they get less effective but we're not wired to accept decreasing pay.
  17. Why was this thread buried in fantasy sports? Anyone think that the Bears -2 1/2 is a sucker line? Every prognosticator on talk radio is gushing over the Saints yet they're getting points.
  18. YES YES YES "angel pagan just flew out to some guy in right" Now pinch hitting is ...number 73.
  19. "Ronny, go home and forget everything Dusty Baker ever told you about hitting" "Ok, but it may take until the playoffs to do that"
  20. I don't believe news like this reduces his trade value at all. Baseball people talk to each other. They know a lot more about what teams want for certain players than we as fans will ever know. They probably knew toward the end of last season that Jones and the Cubs wanted to part ways. Hendry doesn't have to trade Jones even if he does want out. He can trade him during ST. He could even let him stew on the bench until May before moving him. So Hendry can wait for the right deal. Teams either want Jones or they don't. I doubt anyone was ever desparate to get Jones but surely there are teams that would like to have him. His value has very likely remained constant over the off season.
  21. The situational hitting aspect means that when he breaks in he could bat in the #2 spot until he develops enough power to warrant a middle of the order spot. When I see a young player that doesn't draw a lot of walks I'm not really concerned until they reach high A. Players don't get drafted because they drew a lot of walks as amatuers. I'd attribute what looks like over agrressiveness to wanting to make an impression/ getting promoted. What really matters is pitch recognition. Good hitters learn to take pitches that they can't handle. Players also learn that drawing walks helps their BA more than striking out. Since lumbering dinosaurs like Jim Hendry still believe BA is an important stat they start looking for ways to bring their BA up.
  22. or Joe Theisman or Sean Salisbury. Perhaps it would be easier to make a list of commentators etal that aren't idiots. Or maybe divide them by sports worst baseball color commentator: McCarver narrowly over Morgan for longevity worst basketball: Dick Vitale because I never watch the NBA. worst football: I'll just save space by teaming Joe Theisman and Joe Buck for the worst case scenario football broadcast duo. Worst writers: Hatguy and about a 200 way tie for 2nd
  23. I think this is the case. I don't think Fontenot is in the picture at all from the Cubs view. I don't think they like his defense enough to want him anywhere. McGehee is ahead of him at 3rd, Moore is passing him at 3rd, Theriot is ahead of him at 2nd, Cedeno is probably ahead of him (for defensive reasons) at 2nd. And hopefully Patterson will move past him at 2nd as well. To be honest, I'll be rather surprised if Fontenot is still with the organization this year. I can't remember, maybe he could do 2B in AA, I don't think Daytona had much for 2B. McGehee could have an interesting situation as a utility man in AAA. You'd think Moore would be 1st choice at 3rd, Patterson first choice at 2nd. Not sure where McGehee will play. Other variation is that all three of McGehee, Moore, and Eric Patterson might all be bouncing around. Moore could possibly try some LF, maybe even RF, or perhaps even some 2B? Patterson could certainly try some CF, maybe some LF, and if he got some action at 3B that would help him. Not sure if McGehee could play a little 2B or 1B or C. With the possible exception of Patterson, none of those three guys is likely to come up as a full-time starter. They'll each need to crack the league, if they ever do, as bench players. Being comfortable at more than one position increases your chances of that a lot. I could see Patterson coming up as full time starter if Derosa got hurt and Theriot struggled. But definitely agree on Moore and McGahee.
  24. There is still time. I can't help wondering if McGahee hasn't passed him on the depth chart. He bring corner IF, has played a little 2nd and could be the emergency catcher. He's also coming off a good showing in Winter league.
  25. This is a serious question: Are there really that many HS pitchers that throw hard enough to break a lot of wooden bats? I could see that being a big problem in college.
