  1. Gonna be tough to break 100, no? If I was going to use only wedges I think I could still break 100 if I can putt with a putter. That might be easier than using the titleist blades that I have.
  2. Any fans of Stacked Golf here? I find that I’m addicted to buying used golf clubs. It started with me looking for a cheap 3 wood for a player on my golf team and now I have 11 sets of irons, over 20 putters and a bag full of wedges. The hardest club to find at goodwill type places seems to be a 5 wood
  3. We went to Topgolf in Myrtle Beach and our bay had even number irons. A few weeks later we went to the one in Richmond and it had odd number irons. Does each facility have either odd or even or do they alternate? Does anyone know if they’re using stronger lofted irons? It felt that way but I was also hitting off the third deck.
  4. Congrats on breaking 80! That sucks about your golf team. Esp for the 2 seniors. Interesting that your golf season is in the fall. It's in the spring for Indiana. We had 2 seniors who didn't get to play this spring although our golf team is just ok at the moment. As far as of the new handicap system, It's based on your 8 best scores. IMO, you should take out your 4 best and 4 worse. Then average the remaining 12 rounds, subtract the par of your home course, etc... I feel like the new system brings everyone handicap down too much IMO compare to what they truly average. I'll def be paying attention to it more next season as I'll be going to quite a few different courses that are more difficult. This year I pretty much just stayed at my home course all season. I'm a 0 handicap under this system instead of a 2-3 with the old. The flaw I see in this system is that it places too much emphasis on how well you play at your home course since that's where most of your scores will come from for most people. I'd guess most people are 3-4 strokes better on their home course due to familiarity with the greens, how to avoid trouble and club selection on par 3s or less obvious par 4s. As far as our golf season being in the fall, Delaware has their's in the spring too. I guess maybe courses are less busy in the fall than they would be in late spring making it easier for the courses to give up space for practice rounds.
  5. Practice and maybe a short game lesson would bring that down to 20 in no time.
  6. Now that it's been a couple weeks since the Hawks got eliminated we can ask the question of whether making the playoffs was worth it. In the moment, the answer was yes since they still had a chance. I think the answer is still yes because it gave the younger players a taste of playoff success and also let them know what it feels like to get eliminated. That it worth more than a 1 in 12 shot at a the #1 pick.
  7. One of the benefits of being stuck at home during Covid is that I've had the chance to really work on approach shots from 100 yards in since I live on a farm and have that kind of room. I've been playing the best golf of my life. I broke 80 for the first time since I started playing again ( 4 years ago). I also tied my 2nd best 9 with a 2 over 38. The down side is that golf season ( I started coaching the JV golf team last fall) got cancelled with all the rest of the fall sports in Maryland. Too bad since we were going to have a really good team. We were only going to have 2 seniors so there's still time for the rest of them but it still sucks. In other golf news, how do people feel about the new world golf handicap system? The calculation, as far as I can tell since I've read/heard conflicting things, is based on an average of your 8 best (or 10, I've heard both) scores out of your last 20. Subtract the par of the course you normally play and that is your handicap index. Each course would then have its own handicap based on the slope rating. The net affect being that your index will probably be a little lower than your handicap was but on a given course you would be playing to a higher handicap on a more difficult course. Under this system, I'd be an 8 handicap on my home course when I was closer to 12 under the old system.

  9. Anyone been to Dicks for swing analysis? I was looking for club fitting places near Williamsburg, VA but the intra webs suggested Dicks was closer to my actual location. I'm not looking to invest in a custom made set, I just want to know if I'd be better off with a different flex on my irons.
  10. That contradicts everything Lehner has said over basically the whole season. He's been saying that he wants term and he wants to get "what's fair". If he really was going to take a 3 year deal they'd be announcing his extension today. There's certainly a case to be made for firing Bowman but these "sources" sounds like somebody making horsefeathers up.
  11. Frowning, I think since it's upside down.
  12. Gustafson to Flames for conditional draft pick(s). Not really sure which yet. Too bad we didn't trade him last summer when he would have brought in a better return. Now they need to put Boqvist on the #1 PP unit and tell him to shoot the puck every time he sees an opening which should be a lot in the beginning since they don't even cover him on the PP since he always defers to a veteran teammate.
  13. I think there are a decent number of high school players who would gladly skip college and start making money at age 18 The top ones are peobably gonna get much better coaching at high level college programs. Doubt the XFL is gonna drop much money on some 3 star 18 year old. From a potential brain injury standpoint, it's probably safer to play in college. Not that college players aren't getting concussions on a regular basis but at least there aren't any 27 year old men with nothing to lose targeting their heads which there would certainly be in the XFL. I don't claim to be an expert on concussions but, as a high school coach I am required to take a sports injury class and they made it pretty clear that if you're younger than your early 20s, the effect of a concussion is much more severe. The future of the XFL is as the place where a tweener can prove that he can play the same position he played in college at the next level instead of switching positions. This would be especially important for QBs.
  14. Why would teams ask about Maatta? It's like left handed relievers in baseball, teams are always looking for blue line depth down the stretch. Even if it isn't all that great.
  15. If the Hawks do become sellers, teams are likely to ask about Maata. Whatever they got for him will have to be added to evaluating that trade. That being said, having Joker + Kahun >>>>> Nylander + Maata.
  16. And here I was thinking that June Jones was the most hilarious coach in this league.
  17. Maata and Carpenter have been ok. Smith is terrible. DeHaan was good until he got hurt. Lehner has been great. De Haan was rehabbing an injury at the time of the trade and is now reinjured. If you take a guy who is basically only available because of his injury risk and he gets injured right away, that's a whiff no matter how well he played in the month he was active. Fair enough. I suppose you have to add bringing Shaw back into the whiff category too. It's the move they didn't make, trading Gustafson, that was probably the worst thing that happened this past off season.
  18. Maata and Carpenter have been ok. Smith is terrible. DeHaan was good until he got hurt. Lehner has been great. He's the best FA goalie available. This year he proved that last year wasn't a fluke. He's not going to get more than $7 million but that's a little uncomfortable territory for the Hawks. Lehner at $7 million plus Delia (or whomever) at less than $1 million is less than what they paid the goalie tandem this year but they already gave that $4 million they will save to DeBrincat.
  19. I watched about 10 minutes. 3 point conversion. If a punt goes in the end zone the ball comes out to the 35 so they basically have to go for it on 4th down inside the 45. Kickoffs were interesting too. Pretty extreme.
  20. That makes sense. They can likely get more for Lehner because he's youngerbut they'd be taking their chances on Crawford's health or that Lankinen is ready to step into an NHL role. Though Crawford might look more attractive to a playoff team as mostly a rental. A team like that would likely want to give up more draft picks than NHL players so that would be a good way to hedge their bets. But if they traded Crawford now they better extend Lehner the same day since he's likely the best available FA goalie.
  21. If you're Bowman and you're trying to save your job (or at least make it more secure)
  22. Kirby Dach, the #3 pick in the draft has basically caught the 2 guys that were taken ahead of him in terms of points. He's looked really good recently. A lot of teams, especially Toronto, have been asking about Lehner or Crawford. It will be interested to see what Bowman does there. Trading Crawford is harder because he has a NMC but if they extended Lehner he might be glad to go. Keeping Crawford would be cheaper but he's also older and has more injuries. Trading either of them weakens the one area where the Hawks have been consistently good all season. That game against Boston is a good example. If Delia or whomever the back up would be was in that game, the Hawks lose 6-1 instead of scrounging out a badly needed point.
  23. I feel like there should be more like 40 NRIs seeing as how the Cubs weren't giving out MLB contracts or signing anyone.
