  1. Off topic, but 'dolt' is such an underrated insult. Balderdash!
  2. If minor league baseball and college baseball can coexist, why can't the same thing happen in football? The difference is college football makes a lot more money. But a league that paid it's players wouldn't drain that much talent from the big college programs. Or rather it would do so equally among the better programs. There's still quite a lot of value for most football players to go to college.
  3. This Hawks team gives up 45 shots a night. No goalie can stand up to that for very long. The playoffs, if they somehow got there, don't really matter. Nobody is giving up a 1st for Crawford. With everything that he's gone through, I'm not sure he's still the same player he was and I'm not sure he's any better than what they have now. It's much more likely that a team may want Ward as insurance/ a better back up than what they have. As for next season, I'd be surprised if Crawford is the number 1 goalie for the Hawks. Either Delia will have laid claim to that job or played himself into a backup role, in which case they will sign someone else or make a trade for another goalie. I'm a big Crawford fan and I hope he either proves me wrong and is fine or that he retires and lives a happy life with better health.
  4. Crawford has a limited NTC where he has to submit a list of 10 teams that the Hawks can contact regarding a trade. That in addition to the question marks regarding his health make an actual hockey trade unlikely. I agree though hockey GMs do so really dumb things that make no sense so it would really depend on who they were getting back. Bowman got Caggiula for a POS defenseman who's only really known for his self proclaimed cheap shot on McDavid.
  5. - That's what they said about the USFL and look how that turned out? Oh. Is this supposed to be a feeder league for the NFL?
  6. It will be interesting to see what happens with Crawford. Do the Hawks even want him back? Things have been going better without him. Should they allow him to decide when he's ready? The guy just spent basically a year recovering from one concussion and then got another. He knows what he's risking by coming back. That he still wants to come back speaks to his determination and courage but maybe isn't the smartest thing to do. What obligation, if any, do the Hawks (or any sports team for that matter) have to protect a player's long term health?
  7. Jacques Jones or Delino DeShields? Those were the days my frent.
  8. I was thinking yesterday about what the Hawks ought to do going forward. The "plan" had been to tank (or just be incapable of playing any defense at all) and hopefully win one of the top 2 spots in the lottery. The only problem is that they aren't going to draft a top pairing defenseman with that pick, at least not one that will make a big enough impact right away to contend within the window of Toews & Kane still being really good. In the right deal, I'd like to see the Hawks trade that first round pick for a defenseman and then try to sign Mark Stone in the off season. It would have to be someone that will be around for a few more seasons and I don't have anyone in particular in mind.
  9. I read that to mean that if he has to settle for a short term deal he would prefer to play for the Cubs. It also makes sense if the Cubs don't actually care about the luxury tax which they very likely don't regardless of what they say publicly.
  10. I'm intrigued by this mystery team https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_Team
  11. Couldn't get into Devry? I think you’re confusing Stevens with Stockton State
  12. If someone could prove collusion by the owners, would that fall under the Sherman Anti Trust Act?
  13. horsefeathers off, maybe the commissioner just hated your stupid face. also the mayor of chicago should not have to go lower himself in front of mlb to get a stupid all-star game. all you ever read is that everyone wildly overestimates how much money an event like the super bowl brings to a host city and that is the SUPER BOWL. the mlb all star game isn’t even popular with people who like baseball. I guess the slogan "Come for the all star game, stayed because you got murdered" wasn't catchy enough. Honest question: Have you ever considered using "seeing the MLB All Star Game" as an excuse to road trip to a stadium that you've always wanted to visit but haven't yet?
  14. https://www.secondcityhockey.com/2019/1/24/18196604/chicago-blackhawks-los-angeles-kings-trade-dominik-kubalik-2019-nhl-draft-breaking-news I guess the question here is whether the Hawks can convince him to come to America. The Kings seemingly couldn't. If he does sign, he's probably a better player than they could have gotten with the 5th round pick that they gave up. They've had recent success with European players coming over so maybe that helps?
  15. Perfect opportunity to wear alternative black uniforms.
  16. Closer is not a position. Its like lead-off man or clean up hitter. Ricky Henderson was the best Lead off man ever without question. So I am not sure your argument is valid. Can't wait for the first Super Utility Man to be enshrined! Mick Kelleher?
  17. For who though? You'd have to get a lot for Kane to make it worth it. What team could offer enough to make that trade worth it? I think you'd nee to get 2 top 6 forwards, a potential top pairing defenseman and a 3rd line center to make it worthwhile. That's assuming Kane would even agree to the trade which he doesn't have to do.
  18. horsefeathers, they used those insane things for almost half a century. You could still find a few scattered shoe stores using them in the horsefeathering 70's. They have an exhibit about them at the Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago (an awesomely creepy way to spend an afternoon), and the main problem wasn't that they were x-raying feet, but that the whole box/setup was just blasting x-rays all over the place onto the customer and the salesman. Somebody brought one in on Pawn Stars or one of those shows like it.
  19. I'd like to know why the x ray film at the dentist is the same giant chunk of cardboard with sharp edges that I had to endure as a kid back in the 70's. Shouldn't we have better tech for that by now?
  20. this isn't real, is it? i am not the rumor man i am the tree man I thought you were the Lizard King.
  21. Did the window to dump him close and no one told me? Sort of. They could have dumped him right after the suspension. They could have just not offered him a new contract. They didn't do either of those things. They could still trade him if they can find a taker. The organization has been saying the right things lately but talk is cheap. They decided to give him the chance at redemption and have hinted that he better take it seriously. What happens if he doesn't will be a real test of what the Cubs organization believes.
  22. I think the Darvish signing has weighed heavily on their minds and made them more hesitant to spend the money even though they could easily afford it. Perhaps they are still a little worried about letting Theo sign another high dollar player. So they want a mutual option about 4 years in but Harper wants that to be his option only and that's the sticking point. Harper will get paid and it will be by the Cubs and we'll all live happily ever after. If saying it would only make it so.
  23. No, I saw somewhere that players are not allowed at any team functions while on suspension. Yeah, that's why he won't be there.
  24. Never mind what happened happened Sunday, they can't bring Parkey back. It's not like he was great all year or even good and they don't want to make him a scapegoat, he was pretty consistently bad when it mattered most. As for Sunday, the defense shouldn't let the game come down to a field goal but an NFL kicker has to make that. "only my teams" thought of the day: Have the Bears ever won a game where the opposing kicker missed a field goal that should have been made? It probably has but it sure doesn't feel like it.
  25. Bootlicker alert Clever. I'm at a loss for words. That such an eloquent turn of phrase should be constructed on my behalf... I don't care how much owners make or don't make. They've been crying poverty for years. Nobody really believes it. That's not even the point. Of course he has the money, of course he could afford it. I'd love for him to spend it. I just don't expect him to do it without considering the return on his investment.
