you Cards fans should be relatively happy (like we should be about furcal)

5 guaranteed years to a Kerry Wood-alike with less stuff and equal injury-proness is probably not the brightest idea, which is why Jocketty probably didn't want to do it.

Gammons reporting AJ to the Blue Jays for 5/55

It's now officially turned into a bidding war, and I think at this point we are done.

I really thought we had him.

He said it would be final in about an hour.

Yeah...

It's more depressing to have our minds toyed with like this. I know Cub fans can relate (again, with Furcal reportedly signing), but this happened last year with Reneteria, too. thestlcardinals.com guaranteed he would re-sign.

I really had a good feeling about Burnett. And trading Burnett meant we could move Marquis for a much-needed outfielder.

Our offseason was contingent on signing him, and now we have to resort to Plan B; we supposedly offered Jacque Jones a deal, too. Christ.

Yeah true, I hoping we would get him @ 4\40 with an option for a 5th.

Please be true. We need to take away all of Hendry's "toolsy" players so he actually gets good ones.

Don't forget, Brett Boone might be coming to the Cards as well (see Rivalrys).

i feel a little better. At least were not the only team having to suffer through a crappy offseason so far.

Where did Gammons say this? Sportscenter?

ESPN News had a 1 hour special from the Winter meetings. They just ended a couple of minutes ago. Gammons reported it there.

All I need is Wilson, Jones, Encarnacion, and Burnitz to sign with other teams within the next week and we'll HAVE to get Huff, and Bradley/Wilkerson, perhaps Lugo.

Hah, cards talk is freaking out.

Pissed off? Happy? Dissappointed? Confused as to how to feel? What's the general consensus over there right now?

Dissappointed and denial. Some "06 is over" type stuff.

I feel relief and dissappointment all at the same time.

Bit of everything.

Just move Rick Ankiel back to pitcher and start him instead. He'll win 20 games and have a 3.20 ERA or something like that.

Anyone else feel like even though the Cubs have had a mediocre offseason, it's being made better just from everything else that's happening (i.e. Burnett leaving the NL, Dodgers throwing a mint at Furcal, everyone overpaying even more for relievers than we did, Cards possibly signing Jones and Boone, etc.)?

I must say I'm shocked at these developments, as AJ told Tim that he was signing with the Cards. I saw it with my own two eyes. Serena can back me up on it, as well. (That's the God's-honest truth, too. ;))

Isn't that such a wierd sensation? I felt the exact same thing with Furcal. Two opposite emotions at the same time.

Its funny, the cards talk threads have the same tone as they did here with furcal. Lots of "He took the money and pased up a better situation" stuff.

Interesting, too, that a Post-Dispatch headline today was "Burnett is the key to plans of Cards." Sounds familiar.

I think the cards will make a "splash" this offseason. I actually wouldn't mind signing Boone to a minor league deal.

Oh, and uh, of course you have those that said:

"OMG, $12 MILLION!?????????? THAT IS 2 MUCH HE DA INJURY RISKED PITCHA. WOW FREE AGENT C IS RIDIC."

And then, an hour earlier, they were saying..

"HEY WAT DOES $11 MEAN IT IS ONLY $1 MORE DAN $10 MILLION SIGN HIM HE CAN HIT 100 WIT DA FASTBALL."
