Pop the champagne fellas. God forbid Hendry overpay anyone. Todd Walker deals are the benchmark. ;)

I'm sure you'd agree that it's a good thing he didn't match the Dodger offer, though.

I am pretty bummed, but I am glad we're not shelling out 13 mil/yr for Rafael Furcal.

Yep. OBP! I would like more of that please.

Also, if we cut Neifi as soon as the ink dries on the Furcal contract. Some convincing job he gave. I never bought that anyway "Yeah Raffy, come here and take my starting job, I don't want to play anyway"

NEIFI'D!!!

Hopefully, they get Giles. Oh wait he signed w/ a SoCal team too.

How sweet would it be if he had a Rolly Fingers handle bar Mustache?

So my wife saw me laughing at this thread, and wanted to know what Pierre looked like. I did a google image search, and I found this:

Funny that the picture was taken a few years ago, because he looks 10 years younger now without the stache

That's incredible. I wonder if Hendry can stipulate in a trade that Pierre grows it back out again.

On the contrary, I think Hendry has a storied history of overpayment. Off the top of my head, I would include:

Baker

Remlinger

Alfonseca

Estes

Burnitz

Macias

Neifi

It's not my money, so oh well. Everybody's overpaying nowadays. Wait around for Walker deals and we'll get no one.

He overpaid for Neifi twice. That has to be weighed more heavily.

I meant the NSBB benchmark. No doubt Hendry has overpaid on several occasions, and it has been discussed here ad naseum.

Me feelings of actually trading for Pierre somehow haven't really been swayed by the stache however, because of the shear player cost that it would require. On a whole, my feelings towards the player acquisitions we've made (especially in regards to OBP!!!) can be summed up fairly nicely by this...

Still. One bad salary will affect the rest of the roster and affect the quality of the team. Rafael Furcal, second highest paid SS in baseball? I guess so.

Going w/ a bunch of stop gaps cause you can't get real good free agents isn't a good thing either.

Does anyone know what plan B consists of? Is it Pierre? If so wouldn't it ruin the dreams of getting Milton Bradley. His offensive statistics wouldn't be as outstanding as a RF as they are as a CF.

I only see 5 decent options for a leadoff hitter next year on the market. Lugo, Pierre, Lofton, Jason Michaels, and Damon. And to a lesser extent Brad Wilkerson, he could bat leadoff but i think he'd be better at 5 or 6.

I don't like Furcal that much, but this is still devastating for me.

Why, you might ask?

I think about the only (relatively) smart thing Hendry had every intention of doing this offseason was sign Furcal.

This puts Neifi starting at short again everyday, as you have to believe that the Braves will put together a better package for Lugo.

So I predict a frantic trade for Pierre to attempt to show Cubs fans that he's still trying to do something... and then we ink macias to a new deal and the offseason is done.

To me it looks like he glued a fake mustache over his lip so he could buy beer without getting carded...

I believed you. Sorry, I posted the two links a little bit ago. Maybe his "source" learned something new?

I think they're preparing the story, and will put the link on the main sports page as soon as it is announced (if it is announced). I could be wrong, but I think they're just leaning ahead, and got ahead of themselves when they had the story posted momentarily.

So 3 years and $39.5 milion got it done for the Dodgers. I have to say that I'm proud of Hendry for not going any higher. The Dodgers are insane offering Furcal that much money.

I am a little worried about what Hendry has planned as his "Plan B" though. I guess we'll find out eventually.

If this does turn out to be true (still no real confirmation), then I lost what littel respect I had for him. Not about the money my ar$e. Hope he likes finishing under .500 for the next three years.

Choosing 13MM/ year versus longerterm security means its about the money...

It's pretty obvious that it was always about the money. If it wasn't he would have re-signed with the Braves a long time ago.
