ESPN AM 1000 just reported that the Cubs are in discussions with the Dodgers for a Bradley for Walker deal. I wonder if this is a backup to the Pierre plans or in lieu of that deal? Edited by Blueheart05

I'd rather use Walker as trade bait elsewhere and pick up Bradley for free, but I have to say that I do like the interest the Cubs are apparently have for Bradley. Despite his issues (and I acknowledge they are legion) he would be an excellent pick-up for the Cubs.

While there's a lot of rumors out there with our name attached, I think it does mean that Furcal is very likely.

I think this would replace Pierre as an OF target as Murton, Pierre, and Cedeno wouldn't have a lot of power, so we'd be looking at Bradley and another OF with pop to make up for that.

It seems like a lot to give up for Bradley, but I won't complain too much. This could mean Hendry thinks Furcal is Chicago bound.

Thanks for the info, Blue.

You're welcome :D

Meat & England, I'm curious why you two think the interest in Bradley means Hendry is confident about Furcal. Is it more related to trading Walker?

If we get Bradley i think meat is bang on, hendry is confident about furcal and milton will bat behind him.

I'm still praying the Cubs don't trade Walker and bat him second behind Furcal if we get him. I think we could get Bradley for cheaper than Walker. I see Walker as being the ideal number 2 hitter.

Yeah, I think Walker's departure implies a Furcal signing. I just can't see Hendry going with a Cedeno/Neifi infield. Walker was rumored to be gone only if Furcal was signed. After the Hendry/Furcal lunch on Sunday, it seems Hendry would have a good idea where Furcal is going. This info from ESPN 1000 could also have been from before the Furcal/Hendry dinner, in which case it was just Hendry keeping his options open.

Interesting. I was getting the impression that Bradley could be had for less because the Dodgers were deperate to get rid of him.

As others have noted, I assume Hendry is confident he is landing Furcal or some other MI if he trades Walker now. As much as he may be in love with Neifi, I can't imagine he would head into '06 with a MI of Cedeno (SS) and Neifi (2B).

I'd take Bradley in a heartbeat.....

and I'd have to agree that if a Walker/Bradley trade exists, then Furcal is obviously coming to Chicago as well. There's no way we start the year with a Cedeno/Perez middle infield. I think we could get more in return for Walker, however, I'd love to have Bradley in 06. :)

If we sign Furcal, we could do a lot worse than moving Walker for Bradley. Signing Furcal and trading for Bradley would leave us only one more hole to fill, whether that is RF or CF depends on where you want to play Bradley.

While I would think you could Bradley for cheaper and use Walker in another deal, I could live with this acquisition.

Whatever you say about hendry and FA if he wants a guy and believes he can get him he usually does. If the guy is well out of range Hendry will stay quiet ie Giles. Jim doesn't buy dinner without a shot at dessert!!!

Looks like I had better warm up to this, eh Meat? :D

I actually have been giving it some more thought. One of Hendry's primary concerns in the post-Sammy era is acquiring players whose character will reflect well on the team, city, organization, etc. While many do not agree with this being one of Jim's priorities, I think we can all agree that it is one.

That said, and assuming that JH has done his homework, I will put my faith in his judgment re Bradley and his character. Again, if one could say with absolute certainty that Bradley's only indiscretion was that he fought with Jeff Kent or threw a soda bottle at an obnoxious fan, I probably wouldn't have this much consternation about him. I just hope - assuming the deal gets done - that JH is right about him.

This is great! Have Cedeno at 2B and Bradley at CF. This would be a pretty good deal.

Reads like a good idea to me however, Cedeno/Perez 2B smacks of Hollandsworth/Dubois LF...

Good point.

I think Walker is too much to give up for Bradley. We should be able to get him for Welly or someone like him. After all, all of the rumors are that the Dodgers are willing to let him go for nothing. Walker could be used in a package for a RF or SP.

I really like the idea of getting Bradley. I'd sacrifice Walker to do it. With Hairston and Cedeno and Perez 3rd on the depth chart to cover 2nd, a speedy, good OBP, decent power guy in CF makes just one more hole to fill (assuming Furcal does sign with the Cubs). Heck, I wouldn't care if Neifi got half the starts at 2nd base as long as he was hitting 8th.

Assuming of course the Cubs find a decent lefty power bat to play RF. There are plenty to consider.....

Aubrey Huff

Giles

Shawn Green

Ryan Klesko

David Delucci

Carl Everett (with Bradley, probably not a good idea)
