patterson for bradley is muuuch better. that's the hendry trade rape/burn/pillage that i love. forget free agency, Jimbo.

Agreed. Then, if Hendry came to his senses and kept Walker, there would only be one hole to fill in the lineup (again, assuming Furcal).

Now, if we can get Bradley for Patterson, things line-up even better.

Trade Patterson for Bradley.

Sign Furcal.

Trade Pinto, Cedeno, + others for Castillo.

Trade Walker for Ibanez.

Furcal SS

Castillo 2b

Lee 1b

Ramirez 3b

Bradley CF

Ibanez RF

Murton LF

Barrett C

Every player in that line-up is capable of a 350+ OBP and a 750+ OPS.

I don't agree with you on this. Walker is really just an insurance policy in case we don't get Furcal. If we do get him, Cedeno should be a second base and Neifi should back both of them up. Whether or not Dusty will give Cedeno the playing time he deserves is another question.

Also, Patterson is much more attractive trade bait to small and mid market teams. If you could get Bradley for Walker, then you still have an important chip to get another player. Otherwise, I doubt many teams are going to give you much of anything for Walker.

The Walker for Bradley trade rumor:

I believe it would be a preemptive strike by Hendry. Because Milton Bradley---even with his anger problems---would still be a intriguing possibility as a FA. Hendry would elimante a possible bidding war, by trading for Bradley, instead od waiting, and maybe not getting Bradley idf he becomes a FA. So, I would SERIOUSLY consider---if not do---a Walker for Bradley.

The Patterson for Bradley trade rumor:

Is there any more of a perfect situation for Corey, then LA? LA maybe a MAJOR market, but it is prolly the most laid-back city in America, and that would suit well with Corey's personality. But I think the Dodgers would want more then Corey for Bradley. They may want an arm like Novoa, Mitre, Williams, etc. If that is the case, I'd still do it.

All-in-all, I would love to get Bradley on the Cubs. I think Baker's "player's manager" rep would finally be put in use.

Walker is worth more than Patterson. They will make the same salary, and Patterson has the potential to earn more. Patterson has two years of arbitration left, Walker has one year on his contract before free agency. The better production that Walker provides would likely outweigh the advantage of having Patterson for another year, even to a small market team. That said, Walker is one of the top second basemen in the league, and if teams aren't going to give much for him then we should keep him.

The timing of either of these moves is interesting...if we trade Walker for Bradley, that takes LA out of the 1B race as Kent slides over. They'll focus their attention on Furcal (as they're supposedly pursuing Nomar to play 3b, I believe), and might have the means to outbid us. That would leave us with Neifi and Cedeno holding up the middle. So, I would rather wait until we find out on Furcal before we pull the trigger.

However, the Yankees are getting extremely frustrated at their inability to land any of their targets, and CF still remains a black hole they know they MUST fill before the offseason is over. They're holding out hope for Giles, but I think they realize their chances of getting him are slim to none. I think they'll move soon on Bradley by throwing money at the Dodgers (which would further help them in their pursuit of Furcal). That could mean it would be prudent for Jim to move quickly on this deal.

Best case scenario, they accept Patterson sooner than later and Walker is kept for a future deal.
