Yuck.

Agent Paul Kinzer said the four teams he considers contenders for Furcal's services — Braves, Cubs, Mets and Dodgers — haven't made formal offers yet, but parameters have been discussed, and the shortstop has been given a good idea of what he can expect.

Other teams, including Kansas City, expressed interest, but Kinzer said he was honest and told them they had no chance of signing Furcal.

The Cubs targeted Furcal as an offseason priority, but Cubs officials have stated their belief that the Braves have the inside track on him. Furcal has spent his career with Atlanta, and Kinzer has cited Furcal's fondness and respect for manager Bobby Cox.

The Dodgers do have Cezar Izturis as their everday SS. However, they do have a whole to fill @ 3B.

Furcal's guy has already said he'll play anywhere. "Just give him a glove."

It's an expected quote from an agent who is trying to get the most value & as many teams invovled in negotiations for his FA he can. Furcal's highest value is as a SS.

It sounds like Kinzer is just trying to drive up the price, but if Furcal really was serious about changing positions, this only benefits the Cubs, IMO. It would increase the chances of Hendry not overpaying for Furcal.

I told this board that the Dodgers would be in on the Furcal sweepstakes. Do you guys realize how bad Izturis was after May? .216/.257/.288 after the All-Star break, including the worst June I have ever seen. .105/.154/.116. For you sample size lovers, that was in 86 ABs. 1 double, 4 walks and a HBP from the leadoff spot in a month! And it's not like he has a great career history to reference. He's going into his 5th full season, isn't getting any better, and has minimal upside. IF the Dodgers were wise, they'd be right in the thick of the Furcal deal.

Good insite.

I could also see the Dodgers being interested in Nomar.

As was posted already, I believe that this is all a way for his agent to drive up the price. If he was getting offered what he wanted i would think he would have signed. I just wonder how much the rumors of the Cubs going after Pierre and then new suitors being rumored for Furcal are an actual cat and mouse game Hendry and the agent are playing.

Is Joel Guzman still on track to be a SS, or are the Dodgers moving him to 3B or the OF?

He is playing SS in the Dominican Winter League, apparently. 3B will be kinda crowded since he seems to be advancing through the system at the same rate as LaRoche.

But considering the fact, that around September he had to be shut down, and it found it that Izturis needed "Tommy John surgery." Something tells me his 2005 was more of a product of playing through an injury he shouldn't have been playing through, moreso the fact he turn into Rafael Belliard. Once he gets healthy again, he won't be THAT bad again.

I don't know...he was never very good to begin with. Career OBP of .295, career slugging of .338. Career best OBP of .330. Nothing to write home about. I doubt he puts up an OBP next year over .310.
