I believe Hendry is looking for an impact bat for the order. He has said many times that he would like a lefty bat. I think that he is going to use some of our million prospects to get Abreu. Abreu is on the block and I believe that Hendry is going to make a move for him. Hendry has said that he wants to trade this winter and I think this could be a good fit. Hendrys deals usually remain quiet to until it happens so hopefully this is the case. I think a package of Mitre, Wellemyer, Williams, and a bat could get it done. I really hope I am right about this because that would be a sweet middle of the order. I'll probly get lit up over this but thats OK.

You guys think it may happen?

No. If we can't afford Giles and Furcal, how do we afford Abreu and Furcal?

No way will Phily trade Abreu and pay any part of his salary. They might as well keep him if they did that. Giles might end up being cheaper than Abreu.

And if you are going to trade for Abreu, why not just sign Giles? You don't lose a thing in trade.

My heart says yes and my head says no.

IMO it would take a MINIMUM of Pinto, Novoa and Hill/Williams to get close. Even that won't be enough unless Philly decides they really need to trim payroll.

Probably not.

The Phillies are looking for a #1 or #2 starter and aren't going to dump Abreu for prospects. Unless the Cubs want to talk about moving Wood (no trade clause), Zambrano, or Prior, I think they'll have a hard time getting PHL to listen. PHL, like the Cubs, wants to try to make their team better. The Phillies want to win as much as the Cubs do in 2006.

For Bobby Abreu? LOL!

Wake me up when that happens.

Depending on the pitcher I don't see anything ridiculous for wanting a #2 starter in exchange for Abreu.

He's a career .303/.411/.512 hitter. There have only been two years since '98 where his OPS hasn't been above .900 and those were .877 and .879.

In 2004 he hit .301/.428/.544 and was an incredible 40/45 on stolen bases.

Now that he's 31 I wouldn't give up Zambrano for him, but there are probably a lot of #2 pitchers who I would give up for him. He's been one of the most underrated players in baseball for a long time now.

I can think of 30 million reasons that it's ridiculous.

I get the feeling that, if JH is smart, we'll see Abreu or Dunn in the Cubs outfield next season. If he's not, we'll see Torii Hunter or someone similar in the Cubs outfield next year. Either way, we'll be giving up those trading chips.

Needless to say, I've already ordered my Hunter T-shirt.

I've had that one ready to go since the day after the Series.

I've got my shirt that has caricatures of the 2006 Cubs OF of Murton- Preston Wilson- Jaque Jones.

"I like guys who catch the ball."

Put it on the market and I'll buy it just for a laugh.
