Good for Albert!

There's no justification for Andruw finishing 2nd.

The BWAA are stupid.

It was a pretty close race:

The St. Louis Cardinals first baseman received 18 first-place votes and 14 seconds for 378 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Jones, the Atlanta Braves center fielder, got 13 first-place votes, 17 seconds and two thirds for 351 points.

Sounds like a makeup vote to me. Pujols deserved it over Bonds the last couple years, but got ripped off. Lee had a better year than Pujols this year, but not enough better to overcome the success that Pujols team had.

AP never deserved the award over Bonds.

Bonds vs. Pujols wasn't that close. Bonds was CLEARLY better, and deserved to win it the previous two years.

This year was close enough that either Pujols or Lee could have had a legitimate case.

You, sir are wrong. 30-some baseball writers prove it. Andruw Jones has the next most legitimate case to Pujols for this year, based on his, um, comparable, um, I have no idea.

I'm ok with this. As long as Andruw didn't win.

True. What was his batting average this season? Wasn't it something like .263? Weren't a lot of his dings with bases empty?

I preferred Andruw, but the fact that D-Lee wasn't even close to finishing 2nd shows you how much individual performace really means to this award.

Andruw Jones isn't in the top 10 in the NL in OPS. And he finished a very close second.

That about sums up my feelings.

Looking back, maybe in '04 he was. In '03, Bonds missed 32 games. Pujols had a wide margin in Runs and RBIs and took the batting title, without the juice. (okay, they didn't know yet in '03 he was on the juice...er...the clear, or the cream...whatever...). Pujols should have won it in '03.

Jones finishing ahead of DLee was so ridiculous, I didn't even bother commenting on that part of it.

Although I think Lee was the MVP (and will always be in my heart), I can accept Pujols winning it.

But Jones finishing second is inexcuseable. I know he isn't because he's too classy, but if I was DLee I'd be pissed that Jones finished ahead of me.

Too bad Derrek had ice cold Neifi and Corey batting in front of him when he was at his hottest. He could very well have caught Pujols in the RBI race and ended with the 2nd highest total in the NL. That would have made the voting interesting.

The Cubs being in the playoff hunt would have made it more interesting.

Thank God.

I knew Lee wouldn't get it because of the Cubs' record this year, but a guy in my dorm was telling me JONES should get it over Pujols because "I saw him carry his team". When I brought up Winshares, VORP, etc. in addition to the other stats that Albert holds over Jones, he noted that I had "taken statistics too far" because the Cardinals' supporting cast was vastly better than that of Atlanta.

Definately the right decision.
