what i dont understand is NDs lame excuss for being in the top ten is that they played USC close. Since Fresno St played USC close at USC and their other lose is to a good Oregon team shouldnt they be ranked ahead of Notre Dame? Just wondering. Somehow I dont think the ESPN hype machine is going to help them though.

I'm sick of having this discussion, so all I will say is that if you really don't think Notre Dame would look as good or better if they switched schedules with Fresno, then you are either absurdly anti-Notre Dame or probably don't know much about football.

In this instance he didn't bring it up. In fact, I'd say that the vast majority of the time he isn't the one starting it.

really I dont think that Fresno St is better than ND. I just dont think that ND should be ranked 6th. The excuss that is used for them being ranked 6th is that they played USC close. Well so did Fresno St. For some reason I didnt see Fresno St getting ranked so high. I would contend that any team that didnt start the season in the top 25, Played ND's schedule and has played as well as ND has would not be ranked higher than 10th or 11th. Is this hatred for ND? You ND fans cannot deny this is the truth though.

I will say this for Fresno St, No they havent played a great schedule. They have flat out kicked everyones can except Oregon and USC. They lost by a combined 11 points at these 2 schools. I am not saying that they would beat ND but I also wouldnt put money on ND if they were to play.

Here's ND's margin of victory in their 8 wins, on a much tougher schedule than Fresno's:

Pitt - 21 (was 42-13 at one point)

Mich - 7

Washington - 19

Purdue - 21 (49-21 at one point)

BYU - 26

Tennessee - 21

Navy - 21 (was 42-14 at one point)

Syracuse - 24 (was 34-3 at one point)

ND, as is clearly obvious here, has kicked all their 'weak' opponents' cans as well, and those teams are far better than the teams Fresno has killed (Weber State, Toledo, New Mex St, Utah St, Idaho, Hawaii, San Jose St, and Boise St).

I fail to see your logic.

Is there an ingrained bias towards ND in the polls? Yes. Adamb0719, myself and SouthSideRyan have all freely admitted that. Just as there is an ingrained bias towards Michigan, Ohio St, USC, Texas, and all other perennially successful teams. It's just going to happen, and everyone knows it. Most of the time (although probably not this year), it won't have any effect on the actual bowl picture. Therefore it doesn't really mean that much. The rankings, when it comes right down to it, are just a number until they affect bowl selection.

Thats the whole point. ND will probably go to a BCS game when they dont deserve it. Personnally it really is no skin off my back but if you were a fan of Oregon and Auburn it probably would tick you off some. I would even say the same for OSU. Besides tradition why are ND and OSU going to a BCS game over Auburn or Oregon. I guess basically I am ranting about the system as opposed to ND.

Also I never said that Fresno St was better than ND. I was jsut using their scenerio to show how unlogical it is to have ND 6th. I will say that I dont think ND is alot better than Fresno St and if they played it would probably be a good game. I will say this though if ND played Auburn I would take Auburn in a minute and Auburn is going to end up playing Wisconsin in the Citrus bowl or something like that.

If I were an Oregon or Auburn fan I would be extremely upset, and they have every right to be. This year ND will benefit from the fact that more than anything the BCS games are a business. I will not say this is right or wrong. It has been argued A LOT on this board, and I don't want to keep annoying people with ND talk. I end all my ND talk with this-

I see everyones point against ND's ranking. If I were not a fan, I am sure I would argue that same thing. I do think there are valid points on both sides of the argument, however. The simple fact is that the system is flawed. In the past it has benefited some teams and hurt some teams. ND has been on both sides of the spectrum as I am sure many of your favorite teams have at some point. If the roles were reversed and ND was getting screwed and Oregon was benefiting would there be this big of an uproar? If your favorite team was benefiting from the system would you complain as much (this is a general question, not directed at anyone). It all boils down to the BCS sucks, a playoff is needed, and this is a debate that will never end, and no one will ever win it. Can we please just let the ND talk die out, at least as to their rankings and if they deserve it? Game talk fine, bowl talk fine, but whether they deserve it or not, we all know how everybody feels. Lets just all agree to disagree.

I promise to not argue their ranking, schedule strength, or what bowl they deserve to be in from this point on.

Wow, Ohio State behind ND. Two 2-loss teams ahead of Oregon, four 2-loss teams ahead of UCLA.

And 6 2-loss teams ahead of TCU!!! CRAZINESS!!!

Seriously though, UCLA has played 1 decent team all year in Cal. They also got rolled by an absolutely horrible Arizona team. Barring a win over USC, I don't see their argument.

Oregon has a pretty good argument with their win over Fresno looking more impressive after their showing against USC last week. But that loss to USC has gotta keep staring voters in the face. Fresno playing USC so close wasn't much help either. While it makes the win over Fresno look that much better, it also has to have voters questioning why Oregon couldn't hang with them after seeing the other 2 ranked teams USC played almost taking them the distance.

Oregon did play a solid half against USC (they were leading at the half), better than any team besides Fresno State, Arizona State and ND.

for some reason i dont think ND is ever going to get screwed by oregon. I do concur though we need a playoff and the system sucks. Of course if we had a playoff it wouldnt make for nearly as much fun arguements except who should be the 16th seed when that team wouldnt have any chance of winning anyway

True, the yearly arguments due to college football is one of the upsides to the current system, and it would just lead to arguments over who was left out of the playoffs--which would not be as fun.
