kU lost to Nevada tonight, Nick Fazekas scored 30+ for the Wolfpack. In the post game handshake line, a kU assistant distinctly says "f- you" to Fazekas.

Just because Roy is gone, doesn't mean Kansas has lost its classiness (or lack thereof).

You picking IU? Cool. It's so on tonight! Watch for Rod Wilmont on Redick. He will be all over him. Also, if Ratliff comes back, those long arms will give Redick trouble. If Killingsworth can get Williams in foul trouble, IU will win. Of course, if they continue shooting 58% from the field, it won't matter if Williams scores 50.

Williams will get his, but the key is stopping McRoberts, who doesn't look for offense, but will likely see a lot of time vs. the 5" shorter Vaden or a freshman, Ben Allen. And always, gotta stick all over Redick. When's the last time an IU/Duke game featured a huge athletic advantage for the Hoosiers?

The crowd will be hype. Last time IU faced a #1 team in Bloomington, beat Michigan St on a last second 3. Last time IU faced a #1 Duke team, AJ Moye sent the shot block heard around the world.

Word around here is that he will play, which I think is huge. As long as the IU big men can avoid foul trouble, I think they have a real chance here. Davis has always been a good defensive coach. With the way they are scoring, they can be a real good team. The only thing that worries me is them relying on hitting 50%+ from 3. Hopefully Killingsworth will be a man again tonight.

I've finally gotten around to posting my feelings on this game. I'm not much for moral victories so I'm not really all about the rah-rah IU is back junk I'm reading in the papers. I hope that's true, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. I will say that I'm more optimistic about their potential this season then I was before the game though. They played well outside of the first five minutes and the last five minutes. They need to work on that if they're going to be able to play in "big games". Not much big game experience on this team, so hopefully there is room for improvement in that area.

I was disapointed in Strickland offensively. He played respectable defense (being matched up with Reddick often) but didn't do a darn thing offensively until the last few minutes. I'd like to see Vaden more involved in the offense. He seems to know what to do with the ball in key situations moreso than Strickland (and maybe even Monroe). I'd really like to see Ratliff out there much more once he's back into shape. I think Monroe/Ratliff/Vaden/White/Killingsworth is going to be their best lineup. Also, I'm not sure why Allen didn't get more minutes (especially in the 2nd half). Having Kline as the only big man on the floor at any time is pretty much unacceptable IMO.

The ACC takes the Challenge for the 7th straight season. This is a down year for the ACC relative to the past two or three years.

Indiana was close, but Duke's defense and ball pressure is superb. Killingsworth has every move imaginable on the offense of end of the floor. He will continue to open up the perimeter for Indiana and if they shoot a respectable percentage from 3; they are going to be right there in March. As for Duke, they've won all 7 Challenge games - 6 on the road. That's quite an accomplishment.

Despite the loss, Georgia Tech's play stunned me. They play all Soph's and the only Jr who plays > 20 min/game was originally a walk-on player. The guys hung in there and had a final shot against arguably the best team in the Big Ten on State's floor. They can be a tournament team if they continue to move the ball like they did Wednesday night. Perimeter defense and ball pressure have to improve.

Ok there Sulley I am sure you are the most infinite knowledge of Illinois hoops there is, but if you are so in love with Bill Self and his recruiting don't be afraid to folow his new team.

what a joke of a response.

From everything I have seen of Brian Carlwell he seems to be a heck of a get.

the fact remains that he has dropped significantly on everyone's lists and has a LOOOONG way to go. in short, carlwell is a project.

Too me Marcus Liberty was a flop, when you get a number 1 player in America, especially in that time period, you expect him to be a two or three year starter.

what are you talking about? i repeat, he played on the best illini team in history as a freshman. i can see the conversation now:

lou: "sorry nick, i know you're averaging 20 points and are the heart of this team, but we're going to sit you so that marcus won't be a flop in the eyes of illiniguy".

nick: "okay coach, anything for illiniguy's perception of marcus. i understand that his criteria for being a flop precludes you from starting me."

If he can play that first year then be a sophomore with game experience coming into 88-89 it might have made the difference in beating Michigan for the third time.

this is one of the most ridiculous phrases that i've ever seen on this board.

the illini lost the game because nobody blocked out sean higgins, period.

I also am sour on him because about three years ago he had an interview where he said that if he would have went to a pregram like Syracuse he would have been a much better pro.

whatever, he gave his time to the illini, he got out at the beginning of the sanctions. i can't fault him. maybe if he had gone to syracuse he could have sat behind derrick coleman while the flyin' illini came back to beat them in the regional final, i really don't care. he had a great sophomore season and he rode that to a lot of money.

GMAFB, Marcus if you could have spelled cat and been able to play right away at Illinois and actually stayed long enough to be the man in college I would think you could make that argument.

are you kidding me? HRF couldn't spell cat either, half the kids who you think of as illinois heroes were boxes of rocks, that doesn't separate them from marcus at all. luther head choked his girlfriend because she wouldn't watch roots with him, yet i think of his him as possibly a top 3 all-time player in illinois history. we won't even mention the incident with the open dorm room.

Sorry if I stepped on your toes oh master of everything Illinois.

heh, "master of everything illinois"? no, i just know more than you, which isn't hard.

I don't mind moral victories, but this wasn't one. IU was back last year, just didn't have the experience to make it matter down the stretch. This game was winnable. Missed layups, lapses on defense (Melchionne and Paulus beat us), and unforced turnovers were the difference. The team played nervous and it showed at the beginning and the end, where it typically shows.

Still, I do like the Strick tried to take over near the end. He is taking on a leadership role. Vaden needs to stop settling for the jumper and drive and look to score instead of dishing. Not too worried about that though.

Allen is bad. He doesn't need more minutes. He's gonna develop, but he's a defensive liability right now with no inside game. I agree on Kline, wonder what he could have been without the knee issues.

Have there been any reports indicating when White will return to the IU lineup? I hate that he will be out of action for the upcoming IU-UK game.

I know that UK has a couple of 7+ footers on the bench, but I'm not sold that they will be able to defend Killingsworth either. He's too agile for them and most likely will be too strong for Sims or Perry.

Weren't we talking about this in another thread? I can't remember if I gave my opinion or not :P. Anyway, I think Killingsworth will have no problem getting 20-30/10 against us. I won't be surprised at all if UK loses this game.

How about the ultra-creative Michigan State student section and their "Little Dickey" cheer during the GT / MSU game ? Not only did he drop 24 and 10 on MSU, I thought he should have whipped it out upon recognition of the cheer. Then again, he might have been forced to fight off the two male students who decided to kiss each other with ESPN cameras on them during a timeout.

While the Iz-zone may be lacking in general intelligence and personal hygiene; they are not lacking in promiscuous practices.

I didn't see the game, but many fans thought the "Little Dickey" chant was stupid. General intelligence? The Izzone is known for messing with opponents by varying when they start chanting the shot clock, sometimes too early, sometimes too late.

We were indeed. It was the "2005-2006 Indiana Hoosiers" thread, but the thread disappeared yesterday somehow in the aftermath of the site's recent problems. I've been unable to relocate it again w/o the use of the search function, but this thread will be serviceable for such discussion.

I haven't stayed abreast of the situation at UK....what is the name of the really tall guy that I remember from last year? How is he defensively?

Not creative really. No more creative than the ND student section chanting "Small-wood!" for star NIU player Marcus Smallwood a couple of years ago at the Joyce. The genitalia jokes are always pretty easy to come by.

That's Shagari Alleyne, I believe. He punked DJ last year. I'm sure White would love another shot at him. Speaking of DJ, can you imagine him as help defender in the post? Can you imagine him as #2 option? What is anyone gonna do when you have a 6'10" athletic C slashing down the lane? Killer can pass the ball too. I would have loved to sit in on a practice with them 2 playing on the same side of a scrimmage.

That's definitely him. Yeah, I thought I remembered him giving White a hard time last season. Raw, I'm also extremely eager to see DJ and Killingsworth side by side. They should be a bit better than the recent tandem of Newton/Leach, and that's probably quite an understatement.

Carlwell actually jumped in the scouts rankings all the way up to the top 40. He has only been playing basketball for about two years. His older brother plays at Illinois State, he is huge the type of size guy we haven't had since Marcus Griffin and he could grow to be bigger. I will go ahead and say that if he is good enough for Bruce to want then he is good enough for me. People rail on Illinois kids for wanting to leave all the time and go elsewhere and yet here is a kid who wants to stay and Illinois fans just rip him apart, and no I don;t mean just you. Fact is he is a top 50 player in most rankings and wants to play for Illinois that is good enough for me. The fact remains you just keep talking about how bad Weber's recruits have been and then I will tell you to wait until they lose a game in their careers before you rip em apart. After all this is the first year any of them have really played any minutes. I also think we should consider that Weber had to convince three very talented freshman to stay and not follow Bill Self out of town. Can you imagine if Deron, Dee, and James would have left?

Neither Shag, Woo, or Carter have stepped up enough to merit starting so Sims ill be the starting C. It'll be a small, quick lineup, that can create matchup problems having the C be one of the better outside shooters on the team, but will lack everything that counts on the inside (defense, rebounding, etc.). They'll be exposed, but it should be an improvement, I hope.

This is a very poor UK team, the least talented I've seen in the last 13 years. The 3 year stretch where UK lost 10 or more games underachieved but those teams had more talent . This team lacks talent, which is a shame b/c of some being dumb enough to listen to agents and those without proper interest.

Michigan's looking like crap at the moment, which has benefitted ND. The Irish are up 19-18 but they aren't playing so well.

It's tied 27-27 at ND/Mich. Torin Francis is carrying the team with 13 points, because no one can shoot a 3-pointer.

That was a horrible performance. What was up with Rondo? He had 18 points, but it seemed like in the most crucial parts of the game, he was over in the corner twiddling his thumbs. UK has to have an inside presence, or this will be a very long season. I can easily see them losing to Indiana, maybe Kansas, and then there's Florida, LSU, and Alabama once the SEC season starts.

Kansas would have to play well, but I wouldn't be totally shocked. I also forgot to add Louisville.

What's your take on Patrick Sparks? I know that's a vague question, but try and answer it anyway.
