Edmonds- If the guy didn't go out of his way to play to far forward so he can make spectacular catches out of should be routine fly balls, then when he misses them they aren't called an error.

Corey Patterson- Over-rated by many and over-paid by the Cubs.

Cal Ripken Jr. OK it isnt really him but it is kind of. He seems like a super cool guy and all and was a great player. I just always thought that the consecitive games played streak was a PERSONAL record. That his doing this probably later in his career was a detriment to him as a player.(It did show in his stats) It just seemed kind of hypocritical to me that we seem to go after players for seeking personal stats instead of team wins and loses, yet he is held up as some kind of consumate team player.

I am not ripping him personnally, like I said he does seem cool. I think it was more the media coverage.

The other one I really dislike is Mike Piazza. Does he ever play a game were the trainer doesnt have to come out and look at his pinkie or something?

OML....Ripken was one of the classiest guys to ever play the game! He carried on the streak because he said he believed he was paid to be a player and that meant that every day he went to work to do his job.

In all my years of getting autographs and going to ballplayers, I've never encountered a superstar who carried himself with as much class and humility as Ripken. I just can't see how anyone would put Ripken on a most hated list of ballplayers.

Okay...uh Ripken broke the record in 95, that year was a down year for him but only slightly. In 98, when he did finally miss a game, he batted .271 with a .331 OBP.

Ripken wasn't the greatest Shortstop ever, but during the time he played, he was above average. Remember, only in the last few years has the shortstop become a power position. Players like Renteria and Ripken used to be the good players. Players like ARod and Tejada are special.

Im gonna add David Eckstein, just for the simple fact that Im sick of Cardinal fans telling me Id love him if he was on the Cubs. Also, Latroy Hawkins.

Or, they just have a difficult time seeing him at the plate.

Current Players

1) Curt Schilling - Elitist NeoCon

2) Matt Morris - A .500 headhunter and smacktalker

3) Josh Beckett - Cocky hick, and oh, the flashbacks...

Retired Players

1) Chris Sabo, Reds - I just hated looking at his stupid face with those stupid glasses.

2) Andy Van Slyke, Pirates - Did this guy just slaughter the Cubs or what?

3) Delino DeShields - I hated him as a Cardinal, and even more as a Cub.

Curious to see other posters loathed players. Make sure to at least add a short reason why!

Favorite player: Curt Schilling (because he is an elitist NeoCon)

Least favorite player: Jim Edmonds (because he makes unnecessary diving catches; but, nevertheless, is still a damn fine player)

At the age of 31 Cal Ripkens numbers do start a serious decline. Maybe not serious but they do go down. The Average player prime is usually from 27-32. Cal Ripken did peak early though.

Again I didnt stress my point. If a team was comprimising wins to get a player the all-time HR record it would probably be mentioned that personal records are being held to a higher standard then team records. If Barry bonds was completely useless a player but somebody picked him up to just get the record it would be mentioned. It is widely considered that players, especially when they start getting into their 30s do need more time off. If it would have benefitted Ripken to have days off but he didnt take them it is detrimental to the team. What bothers me is that I have never even seen the issue brought up. Yes Ripken does seem like a first class guy, but I think it does come off as egotistical that he may have played when sitting may have been best for the team. Again it probably isnt him but the way it was covered in the media.

One last thing though is that I do find that media coverage does effect how I precieve players. when they seem to attack one guy for something but give another a complete pass because he is more likable it does bother me. Or when the over-hype something without giving balance reporting I find myself disliking something also(tiger Woods is a good example)

I still think its a shame that you'd list one of the classiest individuals, who truly played the game the right way, on a list of most hated ballplayers. I don't think it's necessary to like the guy or even root for him, but to put him on a list of disliked players...man.

Current players:

Moises, Barry, Oswalt for reasons given

Edmonds and Pujols because damm, I hate those guys

The New York Yankees for obvious reasons, but especially the Giambino

Past Players:

Eric Show (Threw a pitch into the Hawk's jaw on purpose)

Kevin Mitchell (1989)

Will Clark (1989)

Don Baylor (I hated him from before he was Cubs manager, my opinion didn't improve during his years here)

Rob Dibble (threw at Dascenzo)

Did you even follow the O's during the mid 90's? They had nobody else to play those positions anyways. He was what they had, for better or worse. They didn't have some up and coming star or anything he was blocking, only somebody worst.

They had Mike Bordick at SS in 97/98. They had Jeff Manto and BJ Surhoff at third in 95 and 96 respectively. Who was going to play? Bret Barberie?

I probably shouldnt say that he is one of my most disliked players. He really doesnt fit into this catagory. So I am probably wrong. Maybe most over-hyped story or something.

Also sweetpeteman it isnt about who is backing him up. It is about his performance by not taking days off. Also the Os may have intentionally not gotten good backup options knowing that Ripken wasnt taking the day off.

wow... that would of really been dumb... of course, I'm a fan of a team that has Jose Macias as backup...

I'm sure I'll catch nine kinds of hell for this one, but I really dislike J.D. Drew. Most of my others have been covered: Oswalt, Morris, Edmonds...

I can see why. Most Phillies fans dislike him and while he may be a good, but fragile, player, he does seem a bit egotistical...
