  1. I was the one who used the phrase "weak minded" pitchers. I explained why I used it and how a pitcher can avoid getting distracted. You're ability to be sarcastic was clouded by actually asking what I thought was a legit question rather than being cute. Save your attempts for trying to appear witty for someone else, some of us try to have intelligent posts and some like you try to ruin it for the rest of us w/ your weak-mindedness. I appreciate you explaining how a pitcher can avoid getting distracted. You should write a book or something. I wasn't aware that pitchers could vary their times to the plate and throw over to first base(?!?). Wow! You must have watched at least one baseball game before(I'm sure you've watched more than that...it was very informative and well thought out). You're like the Joe Morgan of posters( by "poster", I don't mean those things you put on the wall, but by people that contribute messages, or "posts", to message boards). I'll try to control my attempts at humor in the future. I'm really sorry( by "sorry", I mean that I apolgize, or apologise). I've been told by my mom that I'm really funny and a really great catch(by "catch", I mean a partner, or significant other, for some nice girl). I guess I believed her, the lying whore. That's the last time you make a fool out of me, Mother...the LAST time.
  2. What does growing up have to do with believing that a fast guy on the base paths bugs the pitcher? There are very respected baseball men who would agree with the premise that a fast player on the basepaths can affect a pitcher, especially in the late-and-close type situation. Just because someone hasn't found a metric yet to validate the theory does not mean a believer isn't 'grown up' Can having a baserunner on first jitterbugging around also distract a right handed hitter? Actually, I bet that it would. But, since they are on the same team, then it would be counter-productive.
  3. Although I shouldn't respond to this post in a respectful manner or even respond at all, I will. You see it all the time, pitchers will rush their delivery or they don't stay set for a full second. Catchers will jump out of their stance prematurely, etc. With a baserunner w/speed on 1B, a pitcher should always be under the assumption the runner is going to steal. It helps take away the element of surprise and puts further emphasis on what a pitcher must do to upset the timing of the runner. Warren Spahn once said, "Hitting is timing, and pitching is upsetting timing". The same holds true with the pitcher and a runner at 1B. The pitcher has several ways of doing so, coming set and waiting a few seconds and throwing over is one way, vary your delivery times to home as most pitchers use the same set time, turning and throwing while his hands are in the act of moving down toward their final position. They also can throw over from the top of their stretch before their hands join and from the set position wait a couple of seconds, quickly stepping back with his foot off the rubber to prevent the balk fake the throw to 1B. Another is improper stretch mechanics, you can rush your throws in a strecth position just as easily out of the stretch as you can the full windup. Everything done to try and upset the timing of a runner or pick him off of 1B is done without throwing the ball to home. Some pitchers have trouble recognizing it. You want another example of a "weak mind", watch Clement after he got hit for a 2nd time last year. It's not that it's a weak mind or "[expletive]" as incorrectly you put it, it's a mental block, some have it and some don't, some get over it and some don't. Back to Clement, after he got hit with a liner for a second time, as soon as the batter made contact and fouled it straight back, Clement flinched before even finishing his follow-thru. Once a pitcher realizes he can't dictate whether or not a runner is going to go, when he knows he's going home, he has no control over the runner and his focus is on the batter. It's a mental block, it's pretty common in baseball and various aspects of the game, the way Patterson differentiates a ball from a strike is different than Bonds, Patterson might very well have a mental block there. WOW! Thanks. You've really opened my eyes. (first time using one of those "gay" emoticons...that's a case of beer) I was obviously being sarcastic and I have absolutely no idea what you're point is. I, apparently, am one of the "weak minds".
  4. Can someone give me some examples of these "weak minded" pitchers I keep hearing about? I'd also like some evidence as to why these pitchers are "weak minded". Are they borderline mentally handicapped? And, if they are, shouldn't there be some sort of special on 20/20 or something? Because, I think it's pretty darn amazing that these retards are pitching at the major league level. I know that they're supposed to be really strong and stuff, but it's still quite an accomplishment for these "weak minds". I think they should be celebrated for their accomplishments. Maybe Juan Pierre and the rest of the speedsters should cut them some slack when they get on base instead of trying to "get in" their "weak minds". Shame on you, Juan Pierre. Those "weak minds" are heroes. Mickey Tettleton never danced around and "stole" bases. Shame, shame, shame, Juan Pierre...everyone knows YOUR name.
  5. Yeah, like totally, fer sure. No, he wouldn't make the HOF if he died tomorrow, but project his numbers over a 15 year career, and he has a legitimate shot. He WOULDN'T? yer kiddin', right? if he played 12 more years at the same production, he'd hit 632 home runs, and drive in around 1500 runs for his career. are those stats "truthy" enough for you. Wow, I had no idea. I stand corrected.
  6. Yeah, like totally, fer sure. No, he wouldn't make the HOF if he died tomorrow, but project his numbers over a 15 year career, and he has a legitimate shot. He WOULDN'T? yer kiddin', right?
  7. Maybe not everyone has a Dunn 'hard-on'. HEY, do you guys think that Dunn would be in the Hall of Fame if he, like, died tomorrow or something? Because I really think that he's accomplished all the accomplishments that he needs to accomplish. Maybe they could make him a saint, too. The Patron Saint of the "Good Eye" he could be called. We'd mourn for weeks and then celebrate his almost getting 200 strikeouts in 2004. He's a rally STARTER, though, not a rally KILLER. I hear he's quite the fisherman, too. Come to Chicago, Adam Dunn, and you'll be a fisher of MEN.
  8. Aramis Ramirez would be a lot better if he hit .450, but that doesn't mean he's not a very good player. A low batting average and/or a high number of K's don't negate actual production, but it's more difficult to produce with them. In Dunn's case, he's still one of the best hitters in the game, so it matters much much less than say, Corey Patterson. Ok...you're argument doesn't make any sense because NO ONE is going to hit .450, but it's not out of the question for a guy to hit over .266(which Dunn has never done). Calling Dunn one of the best hitters in the game is a bit crazy, even for this site.
  9. A-Rod made a difference in Seattle AND Texas. When he left, they both got better. And if Dunn's so good and always available for pitching, then it seems to me that he would've been moved by now. I think Dunn is pretty good(be a whole lot better if he cut down his K's and hit more than .250), so I'd say that the Reds ALSO think that he's pretty good and have decided that they aren't gonna move him anywhere except to first base in Cincinatti.
  10. His what?! that really caught me off-guard. i just about spit orange juice all over my keyboard. good on ya, sir
  11. i miss my herpes. i wonder if they'll ever come back
  12. vernon wells, bobby abreu, Mark Teixeira, carl crawford, jason bay, andruw jones, jose reyes, david wright, chase utley, victor martinez, jimmy rollins, lance berkman, carlos lee, todd helton, grade sizemore, carlos beltran, marcus giles, hank blalock, cliff floyd, jorge cantu, pat burrell, michael young, manny ramirez, coco crisp, trot nixon that's just a few examples. not all are better than dunn. not all are OF. some play positions that are already filled. some more likely than others. now please, please, oh please...pick ANYone else. and i ask THAT seriously.
  13. the thing is that i WOULD like it if Dunn was on the Cubs. but a lot of people on here make him out to be something he's not. there are lots other guys they could be making "hey i got some new trade ideas" forums.
  14. yeah, he's the greatest .240 hitter EVER
  15. if Dunn was going to be traded, then he would've been traded when the Reds had 4 OF and sean casey. he's not goin anywhere now, so why don't you guys switch your man-crush to someone else. someone that doesn't hit .240 preferably.
  16. Adam Dunn vs RHP: .273/.421/.580/1.001 Adam Dunn vs LHP: .197/.321/463/.784 Seems to be a lot of guys that have trouble against Lefties. I'd hang on to that farm system. the obvious difference being that dunn is still good against lefties. jones is worthless against lefties. Trading for Kearns would be asinine but platooning jones makes a lot of sense. I would give up a b prospect for kearns, nothing more. I would rather trade williams for westbrook than kearns. huh?
  17. the cubs DON'T need Kearns. but it's hard not to get sucked into these things
  18. williams and Murton are both better than Kearns...from value and talent standpoints.
  19. They would make a good platoon, however. i could get into bed with that
  20. in this scenario, who's playin RF when we move Huff to 3B? the amount of man-crushes some of you have for slow, unathletic thick white guys that hit left-handed and can't play defense never ceases to amaze me.
  21. I hope he makes that trade. finley for a year and a prospect for patterson. heck yeah...finley hits well in a contract year and there's no reason hendry can't get bradley too when he gets non-tendered.
