I'm going to go ahead and pencil in Neifi as the starting 2b. Just hope he's batting 8th.

He's a slap-hitting switch hitter who can't get on base to save his life and who at least looks like he might have some speed. In other words, he's Dusty's ideal #2 hitter.

Don't forget, aside from those other qualities, he led the league in double plays. What's not to like!?!

He often times will clean his spikes behind the pitcher's mound too.

Just a reminder to everyone of Neifi's suck factor last season (1-OBP): .702

And Rusch's WHIP, BAA, and ERA: 1.57, .302, 4.52

That's a whole lot of suckage, Mr. Hendry.

I didn't go for Convention passes for the first time in six years yesterday because of Hendry. He's well on his way from keeping me from missing class to try to buy tickets when they first go on sale.

You know its bad when Jon is losing his hope in this team.

My buddies and I have gone to a few Cubs games consecutively together the last couple of years and the intention was to make it an annual tradition, but if Hendry has no annual commitment to putting together a winning team then why should I have an annual commitment to going to Wrigley?

I'm curious as to whether ANYONE would have signed this waste of space if we had not donated 5M to the Neifi Perez Charity.

And we all know where this is going. Ronny Cedeno will double Neifi's BA in spring training and field better but Dusty will say he needs "veteran leadership" and Neifi will start all season. Ronny gets 70-90 AB in the 1st half of the season and is included as a throw-in in a deadline deal to get some overrated past-his-prime OF. Ronny goes on to be a multiple All-Star with his new team.

I hate this organization.

the amusing thing is that hendry said rusch offered things that not a lot of other guys could offer. pretty sure you don't have to look very hard to find a guy capable of a baa under .302 or a whip under 1.57.

I haven't worn my Cubs hat since August and I didn't bother to watch or listen to any games after that. Hendry and Baker are the first two to suck out all of my optimism with the Cubs.

So kudos to them.

I'm just glad Pie's poor performance so far this fall will likely keep him in the minors.

Right?

He offers a 1.57 WHIP and a .302 BAA for more than most pitchers in baseball.

The only good that can come from this signing is my new avatar.

Right?

Its a Catch-22 with Pie. I don't want him starting the season as the CF of the '06 Cubs but I don't want him to regress to the point that he won't be a good producer for the Cubs in the future.

Yeah, but the bottom line for me is the more time he can spend with minor league instructors and away from Baker, Clines, and Sarge, the better.

Anyone else really looking forward to a bullpen with Mitre and Hill in it.

Not sure how relevant this is, but Furcal and Perez share an agent. Maybe Hendry felt he had to overpay Perez so he could overpay Furcal?

Todd Walker should go on a Frank Grimes-esque rant. I think it would go something like this...

Walker: "Oh, I, I can't stand it any longer. This whole organization is insane. Insane, I tell you! [snaps mentally] Daahh! Aaah! I can suck, too! [takes his uniform off, and moons one of the clubhouse managers] Look at me, I am a worthless player, just like Neifi Perez! Give me a new contract! [walks into the clubhouse and grabs a baseball bat] Ooh, I swing downwards, but nobody minds! [swings in an exaggeratedly slobbish fashion] Now I'm stepping to the plate without trying to get on base. But it doesn't matter, because I'm Neifi Perez! I don't need to get on base, 'cause someone else will do it for me. D'oh! D'oh! D'oh! [slaps forehead on each "D'oh!"]

Perez: Hey, you okay, Walky?

Walker: I'm better than okay. I'm Neifi Perez.

Perez: [chuckles] You wish.

Walker: [notices Hendry has walked in] Oh, hi, Mr. Hendry. I'm the worst hitter in the league given the amount of playing time I get. Time to go home to my mansion and eat my lobster. [walks up to some dangerous-looking pitching machines] What's this? [reads sign] "Danger: Wear Helmet." Well, I don't need a helmet, because I'm Neifi Pere-- [gets hit in the head by a baseball]

I don't know, Jon. Pie's defense has been good and Hendry has decided he likes guys who can catch the ball.
