- they rid themselves of a "headache" for low value and underestimated the drop in production caused by the move (Curry)

Paxon fleeced Isiah in the Curry trade.

Sure, as long as they don't pull ANOTHER Hendry and fail to use their money to actually sign an impact player. I do worry about this as the Bulls really haven't signed a marquee player since, well, the Jordan years

Who do you suggest they sign? The 2006 free agent class is dismal. I expect the Bulls to make a run at Nene Hilario. Not an impact player really, but he'd add some much needed size and athleticism to the front line.

Isn't Ben Wallace a FA too?

Yep, and I'd make a hard push form him. I won't blame Paxon if he decides to stay in Detroit, though.

Ok, that's what I thought. I wouldn't expect him to come to the Bulls, but if the Bulls were able to sign Wallace, it'd open up a lot of opportunities in the draft.

Out of curiousity....who is the Bulls biggest rival?

When the teams are close in terms of talent, Pistons. Knicks are up there, too. Bouncing the Knicks out of the playoffs was a Chicago Spring tradition not too long ago. Cavs too, for that matter. :D

Still have that second city complex do we? :D

Thanks. It helps when your team is good doesn't it?

Not when it comes to NBA basketball for most of my lifetime. :D

Certainly makes the rivalries a lot more intense.

I would consider Detroit our biggest rival with New York second. Indiana and Cleveland are rivals too but not on the level of the Pistons and Knicks.

Wallace is probably looking to get a max-deal type contract do you guys think he is worth that? I personally feel it might be a better idea to draft and hold on to the money until the right deal comes along or just wait for the other FA period.

I think he'd easily be worth it for the first four years or so of the deal. There are lots and lots of max contract players in the NBA out there that are less deserving of the money.

The only thing I worry about at his age is a contract similar to AD.

Certainly could turn into an albatross at the end. Have to decide if first four years of deal would be worth it. That and taking a major talent away from a divisional rival.

I'd give Ben a max contract. He would make that much of a difference on this team. Gotta hope he retires after 4-5 years though. But still, I think it would be worth it.

You could always wait and save the cap space for King James. 8)

Don't you have to use a certain amount of the cap space every year? I don't think you can just not spend it and save it for next year, but I'm not sure about that.

The Bulls vs Pacers games towards the end of Jordan's Bulls career were the most entertaining basketball games I have ever seen.

The Eastern Conference finals in 1998 were the best 7 games of that whole run. Kukoc was a big reason they advanced, those teams were so evenly matched.

Will they be able to spend enough to save for the max for next season? (That's obviously a risky idea unless there are other quality FAs besides LeBron next year.)

Next year's free agent class is stacked, but I don't think they can just save max type money for it. Probably have to trade young talent/draft picks for an expiring contract or something like that. I'll be happy if they pry Nene away from Denver (restricted FA) and get a top 5 picks from the Knicks. Scouts are complaining about how weak this draft is, but they do that every single year.

LeBron's a FA after 07?

Chris Sheridan loves the 07 FA class. Rightfully so.

Imagine a free agent class that included Paul Pierce, Chauncey Billups, Mike Bibby, Dirk Nowitzki, Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis. Now that'd be something to save some salary cap space for, eh?

Well, all of those players can become free agents 18 months from now by exercising early termination clauses in their contracts, making the summer of 2007 shape up, at least potentially, as one of the greatest free agent classes in NBA history.
