I don't hate Millwood, but he's had injury problems, he's going to get too much money for too many years, and in his "great" 2005 season, he didn't even pitch 200 innings - in the AL, where he should be able to pitch even more innings.

He's played nine years in the majors. In six of those, his ERA was >4.

I would love either Burnett or Millwood, if the Cub go crazy and spend a ton this winter I would think Burnett is the one they would land. Why? Dempsters a good friend. Was in the Marlins system when Gary Hughes was there. Barrett has thrown him a sales pitch. Burnett has shown a desire to play here according to reports on the board. One I'm not sure about was Rothschild with the Marlins when Burnett was there.

But with the Rusch signing I just don't see Hendry going after another starter even if Williams is dealt for a bat. I hope Hendry proves me wrong.

While I don't put much stock in Gammons's predictions, it is nice to have someone of national significance mention the Cubs in regard to Giles. Up until now, I wasn't even sure Hendry knew he existed.

If we signed both Giles and Furcal, I think we could call it an offseason.

Vance, what's Addison dressing up as for Halloween?

She was Tigger. We only went to about six houses before it started raining and then came home.

Maybe go after a CF (Bradley/Cameron) with those extra starting arms we have, but I agree..

LF - Murton

CF - Patterson (Bradley? )

RF - Giles

1B - Lee

2B - Walker

SS - Furcal

3B - ARam

C - Barrett

To me, that lineup looks good enough to compete for the division. Amazing how much of a difference 2 signings would make.

I think with Giles and Furcal, we could afford to let Patterson try one more time in CF.

The line-up could be:

Furcal SS

Walker 2b

Lee 1b

Giles RF

Ramirez 3b

Patterson CF

Murton LF

Barrett C

I think that line-up could conceivably be a top 3-4 offense.

Konerko--> White Sox "Wouldn't surprise me to see them trade Garcia and have Mccarthy takes his spot.

No chance whatsoever. El Duque is either gone or in the 'pen so McCarthy can be the 5.

We could afford to let Patterson try again in center field but I would rather not chance it. Go and Get Bradley the Dodgers are in dump mode. Forget Furcal and get Nomar on the cheap.

Walker

Bradley

Lee

Giles

Ramirez

Nomar

Barrett

Murton

man I wish the Cubs where the Yankee's and could replace Murton with Dunn, Manny, Floyd, Matsui.

I'd rather the Cubs never win one than become one of those 250 million payroll super-teams.

Heresy, I tell you. Absolute heresy.

I would move Murton up & Walker down in that line-up:

Furcal

Murton

Giles

Lee

Ramirez

Walker

Barrett

Patterson

If the Cubs somehow land both Furcal & Giles, I'm fine with CPatt in CF.

or bench Patterson & start Hairston:

Furcal

Hairston

Giles

Lee

Ramirez

Barrett

Walker

Murton

I'll gladly take the $250 mil payroll (and the winning), thanks.

Maybe it's just the Yankee-hater in me, but I want this drought broken by a team with a budget, not one that can just buy anyone they want.

Yes, it is our lot in life. Somehow, someway, we'll struggle through it and eventually overcome the limitations.

I feel almost dirty linking the MLB boards here, but I got a kick out of this. Braves fan campaigning for Neifi as Furcal's replacement.

http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=ml-braves&msg=61531.1&ctx=0

DO IT JS!

lol, and several people immediately shot him down.

What made me laugh (other than that anyone could ever suggest Neifi as a suitable starting SS - AND CITE STATISTICS TO SUPPORT HIS POINT), was that someone was like, "Nah, not him. I guess Khalil Greene would be alright," as if being able to get Greene was a given.

Of course, I could put my foot in my mouth. I suppose that maybe the Padres are shopping Greene, but I can't think of any reason why?

P.S. He can't be a free agent yet, can he?
