Would anybody else love to pick this guy up from the Phillies? Career .380 OBP including .399 last year in 289 AB's. I have to imagine he wouldn't cost that much considering he's going to be 30 next season, and still hasn't gotten a full shot with the Phils. If he can play solid defense, I'd love to try to pick him up for cheap and give him a chance to play centerfield and leadoff next season. It might sound stupid to hand those 2 jobs to a guy who never has played a full season, but his numbers over his career show he has what it takes to be a full time player. I really hope Jim at least takes a look at this guy before going after someone stupid like Pierre. Thoughts? What prospects would we need to get him?

UK will be along in a moment.

I'd love to have him, but I can hear Dusty now....

"What, an outfield version of Mark Bellhorn? No thanks." Of course, Michaels does hit for a better AVG than Bellhorn.

Yeah, right after I posted this I realized he wouldn't even play if he was traded for.

What does UK have against him?

He hates cheap effective hitters.

So what position does he have in the Cubs organization?

I was just thinking that before I read your post.

They're kidding. UK loves Michaels and would love him to be on the Cubs. He suggests getting Michaels in at least 1 thread per day.

I figured they were kidding. Back on topic. How willing is Philly to give up Michaels?

It's scary isn't it?

WP, I was just kidding around as a poster named UK really likes Micheal and has mentioned him a lot and that's why we were yanking your chain but it looks as if the joke is on us.

I think it depends on what direction the Phillies decide to go. Michaels could piggyback a Thome trade or if the Phillies move Burrell they may keep him.

Depends on how their OF situation shakes out in the offseason. They don't have much in the way of good options in terms of CF options plus they have their share of contracts to unload.

They have Michaels, Lofton(FA), and someone who I believe won a AAA MVP(the name escapes me, hispanic name). If anything I'd say they have a wealth of options at CF.

My top two targets for CF via trade are Bradley and Michaels, I think Bradley is the better player but if I weighted it based on attitude and character I'd probably prefer Michaels.

Either would be a great #2 hitter.

Michaels would be an ok pickup, I'd rather sell the farm for Pierre though. He's a better bunter who likes to spend extra time judging the IF and how the ball rolls down the 3B line. That's mas important than actual baseball ability.

I'll feel better when the Cubs sign Furcal to 9-10 per year b/c he's fast.

Right on! Put Perez at the 2 slot because he hits the ball and makes contact the Cubs will be all set. Now I finally feel good about 2006.
