Maybe Jim Hendry will finally wake up and realize that if they can win a WS, we can too.

Do you honestly think that possibility never occured to the man before now?

It's more likely that a Sox title will cut into our revenues, making it harder for Hendry to maintain one of the league's biggest payrolls. How does that help us?

Actually, I doubt that even if the White Sox win it all this year, it would really have much of a financial impact on the Cubs.

The Sox will draw more fans next year, but it will hardly be at the expense of the Cubs. Wrigley is still going to sell out most of its games, not that ticket sales have any corallation to payroll. The Cubs are still one of the most popular teams in the nation. The White Sox will have to continue winning for many more years just to become the most popular team in Chicago. There will be a rise in White Sox merchandise sales and TV ratings next year, but if they don't maintain a winning team then it will all drop off again. Unlike the Cubs, the Sox won't draw fans to US Cellular if they don't win because they don't have the neighborhood or hipness appeal to do so, nor do they have that mystique of teams like the Cubs, Yankees, or Red Sox that cause people who have never stepped foot in Chicago to become a fan.

The only thing that is going to be hurt by a White Sox World Series championship is the pride of Cubs fans and the organization.

I've posted as much. But I'll lose sleep at the thought of even the most measly of sums being lost to Reinsdorf.

Now ill be honest with you... Im a whitesox fan first die hard always been that way. But unlike a lot of us I actually kind of like the Cubs. Its either that or I just dont like the Cardinals/Astros so much and there is no point in rooting for the other 3 teams in your division.

Anyways back in 2003 when you guys made your playoff run is really when I started to like you guys a little. Don't get me wrong I watch 160 games of the Sox maybe attend 15-20.... But I think I see around 60 cubs games a season on average.

Now that I got that all out. For all the classless sox fans you see there are equally classless cub fans. For all the crap you are taking from the Sox fans now. Sox fans were taking all the crap from a lot of your fanbase in 2003 before you lost. For some reason their is an extreme hate for one another in the city and I have no clue why. I mean Im a whitesox fan first but whats wrong if I enjoy watching the Cubs 2. Although Ill have to admit when you guys lost it didnt really bother me much but if the Sox lost id be crushed.

No offense, but I imagine you must have more important things to worry about.

This is true, although that label is usually applied to Sox fans. My brother's brother-in-law worked with Steve Bartman and said that the Cubs fans in his office were none too classy after Game 6 in 2003 and I knew a few Sox fans who were kinda hoping that the Cubs would pull it out just for Bartman's sake (I know, you all know the Sox fan who was out buying a full Marlins uniform that year).

I've stated this before, but I've found that the Sox "fans" who are the most anti-Cub tend to be either former Cubs fans who jumped ship a while ago or are Sox fans from Cubs families. I have a friend who falls into both categories and he's the one calling people bragging about the playoffs and rubbing it in people's faces. I have another friend who is a life-long Sox fan who does the occassional teasing but is mostly gracious about the whole thing.

guys and gals . . .it's natural to root against another team in the city -

No Yankee fan cheers for the Mets

No Giant fan cheers for the Jets

No Cub fan cheers for the Sox.

I agree that all fanbases have some bad apples, but in the case of the Sox the obnoxious out number the others

U see sox fans have the same opinion on cub fans...... Like I said all it takes is a few [edited] and now you link an entire fanbase to them.

Really? I've met a bunch of people from NY who cheer for both.

Although, most of them tend to put Giants & Yankees as their respective favorite teams in their sports.

REally it goes back to 1983. The Sox were good and everyone was excited since no Chicago team had won anything in a long time. I got excited about the Sox that year. Then in 1984 it was the Cubs' turn. A strange thing happened, not a single Sox fan that Iknew was excited about the Cubs. In fact they were very spiteful and delighted in the Cubs' collapse.

In 1989 I was in college and two of my roomates were Cub hating Sox fans. I really didn't expect that team to beat the Giants but that didn't stop them from rubbing it in anyway.

If the Cubs were to win the WS in the next couple years I can't see myself calling either of them to rub it in. However, I can't help thinking that one of them will call me if the Sox win even though we haven't spoken in about 10 years.

Basically it doesn't really matter who wins the WS this year. I don't care about the Sox now and won't care about them next season or ever. Of course I wouldn't mind seeing the Astros win the series 4-2 either.

I haven't watched the news, listen to the Snore, or read the newspaper in two weeks.

Its horrid.

No WGN, ESPN, newspapers, or sports talk radio for me. Unfortunately, my co-workers (Reds fans) are mounting a valiant effort to keep me up to date, though they are amazed at the amount of Cub mentions made by Ozzie and the other Sox trash.

JR I question whether you like hate the sox more than you like the cubs.... I have to ask if your a Bears or Bulls fan because you do know a lot of those fanbases are the whitesox fans you seemingly cant stand.

Which brings out a point... Im assuming most of you are Bear and Bulls fans so everytime you call out the whitesox fan base and call them the worse ever your also calling out the Bears and Bulls the very teams you root for.

My allegiance to the Cubs is as strong as anyone's.

I have no affection whatsoever for the Bulls, Bears or Blackhawks.

Big difference between writing a few comments on an anonymous internet forum, and gloating and taunting to their face.

I would never say 'boo' to a Sox fan about their team, unless they initiated the conversation. I would never taunt them, nor gloat if they lose. I don't care enough to actually bother.

However, for the jag-off Sox fan who was standing in my office the day after they won the pennant, taunting me and asking where Zambrano & Prior were: he can bugger-off!!

I told the guy that the Cubs were irrelevant, and asked why would he bring them up when they weren't involved. He says, well all the Cub fans say...blah, blah, blah... I ask him if I personally ever said these things to him, to which he replied "No". With that I asked him to shut up and leave my office.

On this forum, however, I can say what's really on my mind. There are no repercussions, other than being banned (oooh!), so that's how it goes. I find that internet forums are not a good way to guage how people will act (or react) in physical social situations.

In closing, I will just say....

GO ASTROS!

:P

Actually, I'd just as soon take the high road, and not act like the fan base I despise.

Would be nice to see the city win a championship, even if it is the Sox. I never consider the Sox a rival but for 6 practically meaningless interleague games.

To be honest, I'm embarrassed by the attitudes of some of the posters here towards the Sox. It's really become a pot-kettle situation.

How so? Cubs fans, coming to a Cub fan website/forum to diss the White Sox fans????

The stupid Sox fans at my office never fail to gig me this post season at every oppotunity at work. I just ask them what the Cubs have to do with it? I never said jack to them when the Cubbies were in the post-season. Why? Because they were irrelevant. It is most certainly NOT a 'pot-kettle situation', it is more like a 'jerk-sox fans situation', which is normal, I guess. I don't hate the Sox, but I can't stand their fans.
