Say hello to a sweep.

At least the White Sox trash won't get to celebrate their WS at home.

We Cubs fans deserve more than to grasp at straws like that.

In 2004 the Red Sox SWEPT the Cardinals.

In 2005 the White Sox (WILL) SWEEP the Astros.

In 2006....maybe the third times the charm for NL Central? Well....maybe not, but hey...it could happen.

I agree, I think the Brewers will break the bad luck for the NLC next year

Do we though? We are Cubs fans, we deserve the worst apparently.

At least this is about as low as Cub-dom can go. And before you criticise me by saying that the lowest low for Cubs can't be on something the Cubs had no control over, I disagree. I think the fact that 2 years ago we had 2 teams in our area of futility, now we are alone as we watched our long suffering city rivals win the World Series, pretty much dominating baseball, without even breaking a sweat.

Anyways, my point is, unless the White Sox become the Yankees of the 2000's while we continue our futility, it can only go up from here for Cubs fans.

This really Sox. I'm going to be suffering from LLD until at least half past April.

Did I mention that I really really hate the white sox ???

You could say it every post for the rest of our time here and it wouldn't be enough.

*points to sig*

Now we'll be the only ones. And unless we pull a Kenny Williams and trade Aramis Ramirez straight up for Luis Castillo and plug Matt Stairs in at third base or something like that, it's going to be like this for a while.

After awhile, the misery actually starts to feel good. I'm not kidding, its like people who cut themselves for the adrenaline rush the pain brings.

A Sox fan's away message:

"Let's See Got Jipped On A Home Run Call Allowed 11 Walks From The Bullpen Had To Pitch Marte Down 4-0 To Oswalt Is That A Formula To Win A World Series Game UMM NOOO But We Did It *edited* NO EXCUSES BOUT THAT ONE We PROVED We Are The Best Team In Baseball WAY TO GO GEOFF BLUM 1 WIN AWAY BABY Btw 10-1 In The Postseason Ur Right Everyone We Choked WE AINT THE YANKEES BABY 1 MORE WIN GO SOX GO!!!!!!!!"

My favorite part is that the Sox fans can't admit that they are the luckiest team in baseball history. And he conveniently ignores the fact that the umps have gifted them two playoff games already.

sigh...

Lucky or not, a World Series Championship is a World Series Championship. Wouldn't you "conveniently ignore" everything too?

. . . the umps have gifted them two playoff games already.

That simply isn't true. Konerko followed the bad Dye HBP call in game 2 with a grand slam, and the disputed AJ Pierz. call in the ALCS would not have resulted in a run without a subsequent Sox SB and double. Those were NOT free runs, unlike what happened in this game, when the Astros got a gift solo HR, which resulted in an instant score for the Astros without any further effort on their part. Now THAT is a free run.

no offense, but if there is someone that cant admit anything its you not being able to admit the the white sox are a good team playing good ball right now and deserve to win the title.

For all of those who have spent a lifetime ridiculing the Sox, their ballpark and their fans, I expect it's going to come back in spades. Saying they are lucky and don't deserve to win is like the idiotic Red Sox fans who chant "Yankees Suck!"

Maybe, but not in spades. Chicago will still be a Cubs town, the media will be talking about the Cubs more than the Sox in a few months, the Cell will return to it's nominal half-full status next season, and the Sox will still be the bastard stepchild of Chicago baseball.

I not convinced the Brewers are playoff good for 2006, to be honest. Unlike alot of people, but I'm optimistic that the Cubs will surprise alot of people. I know I will be laughed at, but that's ok, cause there is a World Series core on the Cubs.

I'll be too bitter to notice. Thanks for the heads up, though ...

What brings a :D to my face is the thoughts, that EVERYTHING THAT CAN GO WRONG, WILL GO WRONG, will apply to the White Sox in 2006. And they won't have the privilege to complain about their "lousy luck."

About the best I can muster right now is I hope the Sox used up another 88 years of bad luck with this run.

I'll give credit where credit is due-the Sox pitching staff all had career years. Good for them. The got the breaks that you have to take advantage of.

I'm not looking forward to the way their fans will act for the next decade or so unless we win a WS here soon. I'm not looking forward to the way the media will turn on the Cubs, unleashing years of bitterness on us, but there are worse things in life. Of all the crap associated with this, though, their fans will be the most unbearable part.

Whatever, though. I hope it ends soon so the offseason can begin, and we have the hot stove to distract us.

Actually, I think your terribly wrong here.

I teach 7th graders, and I'm seeing an entire generation fo kids becoming Sox fans. Yes, kids are fickle, but our "loveable" failures, personalities and better ball park all fade when a team 8 miles south is holding up a World Series trophy. Despite the "edge" in popularity and the better environment and history, people are going to flock to the White Sox because they're winners. Heck, the Bulls sold out for 3 years after the last Championship, as bad as they were.

I really believe that this is terrible for the Cubs. Unless we start off hot next year, and build up a mojo that we can follow the pair of Soxes that broke their long droughts, I don't see us having any of the attention that the Sox will get. And even if we start off hot, guys like Wood, Baker, and Patterson will buckle under any pressure and destroy the possiblity of anything good happening. This could become a fundamental change in the way Chicagoans view baseball. Hell, the Southside may become even further revived because of interest in the area. It won't be Wrigleyville, but maybe it gets better.

I'm not just guessing, but I'm SEEING children fall in love these guys. Hispanic kids, black kids, Asian kids are all talking about the Sox. It's cool to see them all jacked up, but heartbreaking that it can't be our Cubbies.

The tide is turning more than you realize.

Funny thing about a bandwagon: people jump off as quickly as they jumped on. Especially with kids. Unless they sustain for a few years, I wouldn't be too concerned. And with that clown Williams making ther personnel decisions, I don't think that's likely.

I don't know, man... as bad of an owner Riensdorf is for the Bulls, as much as I disdain the decisions made, I can't live down those memories made while I was the same age. Granted, the Bulls won 3 Rings when I was in my youth, but I still think that a World Series Championship is something that - sustained or not - is something that a lot of kids are going to cherish.

You don't know, you're right, but when's the last time we had a WS in this town to make a comparison to?

I'll offer the only comparison that I can in the fact that there are kids in New England who (cutely to their Red Sox parents say) "the Yankees have never won the World Series" since they haven't in their own recollection. Winning the Series changes an area and a fandom alot, bandwagon fans or not.

The difference between the Bulls and the Sox is that the Bulls did sustain, and they had an iconic ficure as the face of the team. Many were fans of Jordan more than the team. Jordan and the Bulls were a media and marketing behemoth.

The 2005 Sox are a nameless bunch, with no superstar to speak of, no mantra, no personality. Heck, their best player (Konerko) will brobably be on another team next year.
