The Dominican Winter League started yesterday. Felix Pie led off for Licey, and went 2 for 4 with a 2B, a 3B and a walk.

Out of curiousty, what does Pie grade regarding the 5 tools?

Speed=? and so on?

His speed is 70 on the 80 scale according to a BA article earlier in the year. I know that he is above average in the tools (except maybe power) but I am not sure where they would rank on the 20-80 scale.

That picture may be from last winter, but still, I can see how his power numbers were/are on the rise. And I'm sure he had plenty of time to lift while rehabbing.

At this time of the winter, it is mainly prospects and Dominican veterans who didn't pan out in pro ball here in the states. Later in the season, a lot of MLB regulars will head down there and play for the teams.

According to this article, he is at least aware that he needs to work on it, whether or not it was Cubs coaches who made him aware. It would make sense, though, that if a Cubs player lists plate discipline as the first in a list of things he needs to work on, he probably heard it from one of his coaches.

I could care less if he bunts more. It's a weapon, but only when used properly. He's a good enough hitter where he is more likely to reach base by swinging away than bunting.
