I don't know what Saunders said. I think May said they'd go 0-6 or something foolish. I'm not a big May fan either, but all Lou does is lick ND's ass on that show. Surely you see it, everyone else does.

Guess I don't notice it as much. Of course he is going to be partial, but most of what he says Davis agrees with him. Its not like he is completely off base either.

Holtz is the moron, good heavens. And how did he get a job as an analyst with that nauseating lisp.

And Tennessee will beat Notre Dame.

Holtz is a moron? How so?

Come on man. I'm sure you like Lou and that's fine, but he's just awful on TV. The fact that he's a ridiculous ND homer doesn't bother me that much.

He just has no television presence, doesn't speak all that well and doesn't really add much insight.

Doesn't speak that well? He has pretty bad lisp, but he is also on of the most requested motivational speakers. He is well known for his speaking abilities. I don't think a lisp takes away from what a person says. I personally enjoy watching him. I think he is hilarious, and he always has been. I have seen Holtz speak many times, and while he may not have television presence he is a very, very good speaker.

And does being awful on TV make him a moron?

Obviously Holtz isn't literally stupid, and neither is Mark May, or Joe Morgan(wait...).

No, being a moron does.

After the MSU/ND game, he gives credit to both teams (although he bitches out MSU for planting the flag), says this is what college FB is all about, wonderful OT game, there are no losers. Fast forward a week, Michigan beats that same MSU squad in OT. Holtz gives no credit to UM, says that CFB rules for overtime are unjust since they make it a contest of FG kickers. LOL! Which is it Lou?

And do ND fans really believe Tenn will be a cakewalk like Lou does? He says they're a BCS lock and will finish 9-2. Not so fast my friend.

There is nothing wrong about complaining about a team planting a flag in the field. That was classless. His actual quote was something like "MSU planted a flag in ND stadium my first year coaching. I then beat them for 10 straight years so they couldn't do it again."

In regards to the MSU game, he was (I believe) referring to the great comeback ND made, and overall how great of a game it was. His compaint about overtime has always been around. Many other analysts agree with him, Mel Kiper being the most outspoken. Had MSU not scored, and the game came down to missed FG's he probably would have said the same thing. He has said it many times when games come down to missed FG's in OT.

Also Lou is not the only person who feels that ND will be 9-2 and get a BCS game. If you have a complaint about that, there are a lot more people you could call morons, instead of picking on good old Lou

To answer your question, I am worried about BYU this weekend. Also every ND fan should worry about Tennessee. I think ND will win, but it won't be a cakewalk. However after Sat, I will admit a lot of people are starting to have too much faith in the Irish. I know how capable they are of blowing games.

I agree with Adam. Holtz didn't say the FG kicker comment after the ND game because it did not come down to a field goal kicker.

Also, do you really not expect Lou to be an ND homer? I mean, come on. At least he has a reason, unlike Berman's love affair with the Boston Red Sox.

The ND bias from Lou is clearly apparent, after reading the thread in "Rants" about the history of your family (situated in South Bend, siblings that work at UND, etc.) I don't suspect I'll convince another ND homer that Lou is schilling for one of his former teams (I suspect Spurrier told he'll kick his crotchety old ass if talks about South Car. after leaving them in hell).

Anyway, I sure as hell hope he isn't the long-term replacement for Alberts. They ought to give that job to Jim Donnan or Gottfried or someonel like that.

He didn't have to. He could've complained about the OT system since it gives the offense the ball in scoring position. That's what it boils down to! Instead, he manages to praise an ND team that got absolutely shredded all day. And the next week he decides to deride the OT system. Okay, Lou.

I never said he wasn't biased. I actually said "of course he is going to be partial." So you don't have to convince me because I already know.

What exactly are you referring to at SC? The violations he had nothing to do with or the bad state of the football team, which was his fault.

Actually, they got shredded till about thee fourths of the way through the third quarter, then scored one TD the rest of the regulation period while ND piled up 28 points in less than a quarter and a half. I'm pretty sure the coming back from down 31-10 and 38-17 is what Lou was praising. And that was praiseworthy, whether you choose to believe it or not.

I didn't call him a moron, just said that he's terrible on TV.

He doesn't just have a lisp, he sounds like he has a gallon of water in his mouth every time he speaks. When you can't understand much of what a person is saying on TV, that usually is what detracts from them being considered a great speaker.

Holtz just doesn't know what he's talking about and it's really that simple. Earlier this year he said Iowa didn't have to worry about Iowa State, but UNI (1-AA) team was their real in-state rival and the team they had to worry about. Yeah, okay Lou.

Today he was arguing with Jim Donnan (who is also very bad) about how this Saturday night would be Les Miles first home night game as head coach at LSU. When Donnan told him that they played Tenn. at home during a night game Lou simply responded "No." Then later after a producer got in his ear, he backtracked.

He just isn't good and that seems to be the consensus of just about every college football fan I've talked to this year. Well every college football fan who isn't a Notre Dame fan.

a couple of things.

1st That game wasnt even as good as Penn St/Michigan

2nd ND isnt than good and shouldnt even be in the top 15. They got their tails whooped by Michigan in the 2nd half of that game. If Chad Henne doesnt have his head up butt it would have become a Michigan blowout. On top of the fact that Michigan scored on the 2 plays before Henne fumbles. Michigan St flat out kicked their butt and then put it in the can in the 4th quarter. When the game went back on the line in OT they scored without even thinking about it.

3rd They may finish the season undefeated but will probably lose a BCS game against anyone except a Big East school.

4th I really feel bad for Willingham because I think he would have them in about the same shape that the great Weiss has them in. The biggest improvement on the team has been the fact that they got experience the last couple of years.

1st. Wouldn't know because I didn't see Penn St/Michigan, but I am guessing that since all I hear from everybody is ND/USC was the best game of the last 10 years, that you are in a minority in your thinking. UM/PSU did get overshadowed by the ND/USC game, which is unfortunate, but I really don't think it was a better game. However, like I said I didn't see.

2nd. They got their tails whooped in the second half? Are you really complaing about the fumbles? Wow. Also if MSU scored without thinking about it, why didn't they score at will when ND was coming back, the game was on the line then.

3rd. There is no way to counter that, other than to say that may be true, but it also may be very, very wrong. Pure speculation.

4th. You feel bad for Willingham and think they would have been the same? That may be the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard. Willinghman is not a good coach. period. He drove that program into the ground. They also had experience last year, when they were 6-6. I really am not going to spend to much time on this since it is so absurd. Give me one thing that would indicate Ty is a better coach than Weis.

I am going to guess you are a Michigan fan.

I love the irrational ND-haters. Under Ty this team would have been 2-4 because they would have absolutely gotten blown out at UM and they would have found a way to blow the Purdue game.

The reason that Henne 'had his head up his butt' was because that was a glimpse of a defense that will be much, much better in the future once they plug in some top recruits.

ND is going to win out this season, and they can beat anyone they would be matched up with in a BCS game. Texas or VTech would be tough games but ND has proven they can beat anybody after Saturday's game. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the Irish ran the table in 2006.

The PSU/UM game sounded like a good game but it also sounded like UM got the usual aid from the refs that they always get at home. I wonder how many games' outcomes have been changed over the years at the Big House due to the refs' jobbing the opponents.

ND IS that good. If you wanted to rank teams solely on how they looked on the field, not on past rep, than ND would probably be a top-5 team right now. I know you can't put them there with two losses because it would give them a chance to win the title...which they shouldn't have considering two losses. But I don't think it's irrational to think ND is playing top-five caliber football at this point.

ND-haters are always fun to make fun of. It's too bad that for so many years they were right, but the Irish are soon to return to their rightful place at the top.

For crying out loud, THEY LOST THE GAME. Notre Dame is looking a frightening bit like last year's Cal team.

I normally agree with what you say, but come on. ND is not a top 5 team. IMO VT, Texas, USC (obviously), Georgia, Bama, LSU, Auburn, PSU, UCLA could all give ND a run for their money. Also FSU or Miami could very well beat them. They are 100% better than last year, but they are not there yet. I try not to look ahead till next year either. They will be great, but ND (much like the Cubs. Bears) always find a way to let me down. Tennessee will be tough this year, and I actually feel BYU will be a tough game. ND played their butts of on Saturday, but they can't play to that caliber week in and week out. If they could MSU would have never beat them, and they would have killed UM. They are a great team, with a lot of talent that Ty didn't know what to do with. However they are not top 5. Top 10, thats another story.

I don't direct this at you, but I really wish some ND fans would come back to earth. It is real easy to get excited, and I am guilty of that as well. However we are just setting ourselves up for failure. Perhaps I have become a cynical due to how my teams have treated me in the past. However we must remember that this is a rebuilding year. I said Charlie will get his first NC in 2008. I still stand by this. I may get excited and say next year, and I have even mentioned it this year, but realistically they will need at least three years. I think expectations have gotten too high. When the season started I said they would win 7. If they still wind up only winning 7, I will not be disappointed. While this team can win out, I do not assume they will. Tennessee will be a tough game. BYU can be a tough game, depending which BYU shows up. The rest ND should win, but these two games worry me.

With that being said ND will play in the Orange Bowl this year :D

Also it is good to see all the ND-haters come out of the woodwork to complain about an "irrelevant" team. I really enjoy defending them, especially against scUM fans.

It's true, when I get carried away I tend to say hyperbolic stuff like 'top-5 team'. Maybe not yet.

I don't feel abashed at all though in thinking the Irish could win it all in 2006. If Weis can pile up this amount of improvement in one year, what happens next year when just about every player comes back except for Hoyte and four offensive linemen? (I don't count Dropsy Stovall.) And who's to say that Charlie's O-line recruits plus the backups won't be able to adequately pick up the slack? Maybe I haven't caught enough crap from my teams (the only truly painful moments of my life in sports so far are ND-BC 02 and the Cubs collapse in 03), but I really believe in this team and more importantly in Charlie Weis.

And I agree...I love defending ND against scUM fans! And I also agree that ND will play in the Orange, against either Va Tech, Texas or perhaps even Alabama, any of which would be fantastic games.

You are a lucky man. Did you not allows follow ND? I guess I am somewhat unique in that I have a family who not only watches each game multiple times, but discusses every game play-by-play at family gettogethers. Floating around my family is every game from 86 on. Also due to my uncle working with the University, I get each years highlight tape for free, so of course I see those millions of times. Too many heartbreaks.

Also regarding the O-line I think 2 of the players are 5th year eligible, and they are more than likely going to return. Good chance McKnight is out for the season, but he will then be eligible next year as well

Yes the fair weather fans are a problem as well. Bothers me when my friends who I never knew followed ND call me to talk about how good they are this year, and they are suddenly huge fans. Same thing happened with the Cubs in 03, and they are now starting to fall off pretty fast. I actually had a hard time getting people to come to Wrigley with me this year (maybe its me :-s ). Pretty much every team gets fans out of the woodwork, but not all teams get just as many people saying how much they suck.

Regular season, I would say that game is as a good, if not better than any I have seen in the past 10 years. Of course I had a lot more emotional involvement in this game. However it does make me feel a little better that just about everyone else in the world feels the same way. If they lose to Tenn, or anyone, they are not BCS eligible. You seem pretty sure they are gonna lose that game. I sure hope you're wrong.
